  • "Elphinstone exceeded our expectations."

What a lovely home in a beautiful location. Pebbles, the management agents, were helpful and efficient

  • "Our weekend stay was so lovely, to celebrate a big birthday."

What an amazing house, with spectacular views! Everything you could need for a relaxing stay A few little things to point out.....the dishwasher didn't work...after we'd fully loaded it after a meal for 6. No water was coming into it. I phoned Pebbles the next day, and very promptly, a maintenance man came out. He was unable to fix it, as a specialist engineer was required. This was a shame, as having a working dishwasher would have been so beneficial. Pebbles did what they could, though. The heating didn't work in the very top bedroom, so the maintenance man left us 2 small oil filled radiators. The towel rail in that bathroom also didn't work. In the master bedroom there is a small wooden chair, by the window with the net curtain. One of the back support is snapped and quite sharp. This was in that condition when we arrived. Embarrassingly, the fire alarm was set off by cake candles (sorry!). No damage to property, just cake candles. We silenced the alarms. A rep from Pebbles rang to check we were ok, but unfortunately, about 5 minutes later, the fire brigade arrived. One of their team noted that this was his 5th visit to the house. It was thought, by the firemen, that Pebbles could in future, contact the fire alarm company and let them know if the fire brigade need to be called out or not, to save on resources. Great weather, and a very comfy home. Thank you

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy you had a nice stay and you had the chance to celebrate in the newly refurbished kitchen. The dishwasher should have been checked and run after being reconnected following completion of this refurbishment. This was an oversight for which we apologise. We are also sorry for the other issues that arose during your stay. We understand these were resolved quickly. Thank you for bringing these to our attention. Your comments are appreciated and help us ensure a good experience. Thank you also for being our first guests in 2024. Property Owner

  • "This is the 2nd time we have visited the Elphinstone property this year and cannot fault the place."

I did contact Sykes Cottages direct to report the kitchen tap, which was very, very loose, but they informed me that they knew about it and was ok to use. Otherwise, the place is a perfect place to stay and visit surrounding areas.

  • "Having stayed at Elphinstone pre Covid, we thought that it could do with a little tlc."

Nothing major just thought it was looking a little tired. Well equipped, Brilliant bbq. Stunning location There was a problem with the Fire Alarm, better instructions on the kitchen notice board would be an advantage took us about 20 mins to locate, in a cupboard marked electrics do not touch! It brought the neighbours in. Opinion of 7 people who stayed.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments, all feedback is welcome. We endeavour to maintain Elphinstone to a high standard, upgrades and improvements are continually carried out where appropriate. As you can see we usually receive excellent feedback, both on the website and in our own guestbook. We have improved the instructions for the fire alarm, which we hope will be helpful. We look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

Even though it looks incredible on the photos, it is even bigger and better in person. Totally magical. They were so many special touches for my little boy like the giant chalk board, playroom and toys. I just loved it and, as a family, we will always treasure the memories we made there. Thank you to the lovely owners.

Clearly the owners have put in a lot of thought and care into ensuring that visitors were comfortable and cared for - from decor, cleanliness, maintenance, beauty, comfort and the best of service. We look forward to returning there again and have already recommended the property to our friends.

We loved watching the boats and especially the regatta. It’s an ideal location if you just want to walk across to Noss Mayo or pop out in the car to local beaches or Plymouth.

  • "An amazing property!"

So comfortable in every way, had a fabulous weekend with family ranging from 20 months to 90 years old! Nobody could believe how comfortable those beds are, mum (the 90 year old) said it was like lying in a cloud, with the windows open and the view to the river she was in heaven! 4 generations celebrating a 70th birthday, just perfect.

Beautiful surroundings and a lovely house which was clean, luxurious and very well looked after. Everything had been thought of and we needed nothing. • "We really enjoyed our holiday in this property."

The house is beautifully and luxuriously furnished. The kitchen has everything for even the most serious cook. Plenty of comfortable sofas to sink in and enjoy the wonderful views to Newton Creek and the Yealm. The position of the house is exquisite with views from all the rooms and a wonderful veranda. Only, very minor thing, to be improved is the size and quality of bath towels provided which seem to be at odds with the luxurious comfort of everything else in that house!

The views of Newton Creek and the River Yealm are outstanding. The house was spotlessly clean and the welcome hamper, including scones and Devon clotted cream, was a lovely touch. Elphinstone is situated in a peaceful area and although we weren't blessed with the best weather the views from inside were spectacular and we managed to sit out on the terrace on some days. We also enjoyed some walks from the property into the surrounding countryside and we'd highly recommend the Ship Inn in Moss Mayo - fantastic food and customer service. A great holiday and we are planning a return!

About the location

NEWTON FERRERS

Plymouth 8 miles.

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and civilised countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in Newton Ferrers and an organic farm shop just two miles away. The village pub, with fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek, serves good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 8 miles away while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must.
