  • "We had a really good holiday at Oyster Lodge, and the space worked well."

It was clean and tidy. However we felt the overall standard of the Lodge was a bit tired. The beds were very saggy, and the kitchen equipment and utensils were rather old and worn. The frying pan was rusty and unusable, and metal tools with nonstick pans are a disaster. This said, we would probably come again.

Glad to read you had a nice holiday. It's a lovely location. New Utensils and Frying Pan in situ. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Di James. Property Owner

  • "A lovely and very comfortable lodge in a stunning location."

We really enjoyed our time here despite the terrible weather. The accommodation was well equipped, spacious and comfortable, with the added bonus of being exceptionally dog friendly. Some very pretty walks close by and only a short stroll to good local facilities, including a bakery/coffee shop, Co-Op, and pub. The Dolphin pub was warm, friendly and a great place to relax at the end of the day.

Thank you for your feedback. Welcome to come again with Discount for 2nd visit! Property Owner

  • "Overall a very nice property, well equipped but the bed mattresses were very poor and without support, even the childrens beds."

Time to replace them with better quality items. Also one of the children found 2 white tablets under the single bed whilst looking for her shoes....!

Sorry the beds were not to your standard I will look into it not been mentioned. But NO excuse for finding tablets under the single bed - I will notify the Hospitality team. Property Owner

  • "A wonderful stay at the Lodge, the surrounding area was extremely peaceful and relaxing."

It is situated in such a beautiful part of the countryside, with Plymouth Harbour and the Barbican only 8 miles away. It has stunning walks all around the site, which are perfect for dog walking. It also has a Pub overlooking the River Yealm estuary just 5 mins walk from the lodge, with scenic views of an old church and houses on its banks. The owner of the Lodge made sure "everything" was available from- Towels, Ironing board etc, to even a Dog bowel for our Dog. We stayed for 7 nights, and we were very sad to have have to pack up and leave for our trip back home... I cannot thank the Owner "Sal" enough, for making our stay such a happy one. We hope to return again one day soon... I highly recommend this Lodge to anyone, wanting a peaceful relaxing brake.

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. When the weather's good one can't better South Hams.. Property Owner

  • "Oyster Lodge was well appointed, comfortable and relatively spacious."

The bed linen was high quality and comfortable. The kitchen and pet supplies were welcome, I had brought my own but found I didnt need them. Lovely quiet location in Newton Ferrers. One suggestion would be some shelves in the bathrooms as I had to put wash bag on the floor.

  • "Beautiful lodge in peaceful setting."

Very well equipped. Plenty of room for the six of us. Very hilly but close to shops etc. your recommendation of the ship in was spot on. Fantastic food. Although dishwasher broke down Wednesday night the caretaker did well to find someone to come out Friday morning given it was jubilee holiday. Unfortunately couldn’t be fixed there and then. Only suggestion would be shelves in bathrooms close to sinks to take toothbrushes etc. All in all a lovely place to relax and unwind. Thank you for allowing us to share this lovely lodge.

Thank you for a lovely review. Unfortunate that the dishwasher gave up on you .Sorry especially with a group of 6 people!. Di James. Property Owner

  • "Lovely lodge in a lovely place."

Really well equipped. When we arrived the overall cleanliness of the lodge could have been better (hoovering, dust, dogs hairs). The lack of recycling was disappointing for a large site. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and would definitely revisit.

Sorry overall cleanliness was not 100%-you were the 1st visitors this season. I will follow it up. The site does not do recycling which is a shame. D. James Property Owner

  • "Oyster Lodge is excellent generally."

Negatives are: - Ideally could do with more coat hooks for outdoor coats. - Not good if you have more than one car. - Although Newton Ferrers is lovely there's not much there & you need to use a car constantly

  • "The accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and well equipped."

As others have said no recycling facilities, however this is a site issue rather than this property. Great base for those who like walking and the outdoors with the south west coast path within easy access and water activities available locally. The weather wasn't too kind on our stay, but that didn't stop us from having a great time.

  • "Some more information on local dog walks from the lodge would have been useful."

Recycling facilities also, given there were none on-site. The lodge was great and cosy for a rainy and windy week.

A short car journey away are some stunning coves with really safe swimming. All in all a place one has to visit again just so much we didn`t see, however we mustn`t leave it too long as being in our 80s the hills were a challenge!

..fortunately the Netflix worked ! Also, brought my own latest model Roberts Radio to get music/news ,which filled the media -gap . Otherwise, the lodge was very comfortable,top-notch kitchen/bathroom....probabley the best I have stayed in.....however parking the car around Newton Ferres was a nightmare and this was mid-winter, my bike was a god-send...

Warm and clean with a lovely deck area that had sunshine all day. Perfect for a family holiday. Lovely beaches within driving distance. Perfectly adequate shopping locally. Good meal at the Ship, and take away from the Dolphin.

  • "The Loge is mainly clean and comfortable and is covid secure."

The rooms are spacious and well appointed and we were very comfortable there. The verandah/deck is a lovely suntrap even at the end of September. The local village is easily reached (if you don't mind steep streets) with small general store for everyday needs and a great pub. The biscuits etc on arrival were very welcome. It might be helpful to have instructions for tv etc on laminated sheets for guests. Whilst the property was very clean and well appointed I was disappointed that the glass in the oven was dirty and that the roasting dish was too old and stained for us to feel comfortable using and needed to be replaced. There are no recycling facilities on site and we did not wish to put them in the general waste so had to take them home with us. Others may be less fussy about this. But all in all this is a great property and I would recommend it.

Covid notification on cleaning was left which was a lovely reassurance. The lodge was exactly as the pictures, a quiet location sif you want a break from the rat race. The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo is an absolute must and the villagers in Newton Ferrers are lovely, try the home made pie and pasties in the local shop.

The Lodge had everything we needed to have a fabulous holiday and was extremely comfortable and clean. We really appreciated the lovely gesture of the milk, biscuits and bottle of wine. We loved Newton Ferrers, the estuary is beautiful as are the nearby beaches. The pubs in Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo across the estuary served fantastic food.
