  • "We had a lovely week long stay at Bale House!"

It is a generally well equipped cottage, with plenty of room for the number of guests listed. The area was lovely and quiet and it was so nice hearing the birds singing away each morning! We didn’t find the road leading to North Tawton too narrow to walk, (as a previous guest has commented), the road itself is very quiet and we felt perfectly safe walking our dogs down the road into the village. The internet was also fine and we had no problems with it while we were staying. Thank you!

  • "Just returned from a lovely weekend break at Bale House."

The property is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very spacious, and very well equipped with everything you need. There were 8 of us, 5 adults and 3 teenagers, and there was plenty of room for all of us to sit in comfort in the lounge or around the dining table. The location is very peaceful with lovely views. The small village of North Tawton is a 15 minute walk away. It is small but has a couple of pubs, a chip shop and a delicious ice-cream parlour. A short drive will take you to some of the larger surrounding villages. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We found Bale House very clean, comfortable and well equipped!"

! We did enjoy our stay. However, having 2 children with us who never seem to walk anywhere we found the lovely wooden floors and stairs very slippery!! Something to help grip particularly on the stairs and steps would be helpful.I suffer with arthritic knees so did find the few steps down into the house and into the kitchen difficult especially without anything to hold on to. Small handrails would have been appreciated. Something similar to help me get into and out of the shower would have been good too!! I don't want to put anyone off booking at Warden Farm because it's a lovely place!! I have just pointed out things that we found ourselves commenting on during our stay!! We're sorry we had to leave early in the morning and didn't get to meet Melanie and Darren, the owners of Warden Farm and we forgot to write about our stay in the Visitors Book!!

Thank you for your comments - it’s always good to hear when guests have enjoyed their stay. I’m sorry we missed you - we had a weekend away ourselves. Both staircases have hand rails but yes there are a couple of sets of 2 or 3 stairs internally which don’t have rails. I will add a note to the Sykes on line description. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, with plenty of space which is well placed for visiting many locations in Devon, particularly Dartmoor."

Both Sykes and the owners kept us well informed of property access and Covid requirements. Really appreciated the enclosed garden for the dogs and the ripe plums on the tree! Would definitely recommend.

  • "Cottage well equipped, in a lovely part of Devon."

All bed linen and towels changed mid-stay. Dogs allowed which is a bonus. The access road is single track with passing places - some cars do travel far too fast so, after one walk, we decided not to walk along the roadside (no pavement) as we found ourselves leaping into the hedgerow - no reflection on Bale House at all!!

The owners were helpful in providing spare keys when one of our cars had a tyre blow out and the party got separated. This is certainly somewhere we would happily return to again.

  • "The cottage was perfect for us (3 adults, 2 kids)."

Everything was prepared when we arrived and the cottage is really good equipped. Really nice to have bed sheets and towels provided and we even got the towels changed after one week. The kitchen is fully equipped and we even found a small bottle of milk in the fridge. In North Tawton (a 3 minute drive away) you will find a small SPAR supermarket which has everything you need. Bigger supermarkets are about 15minutes away by car in Okehampton or Exeter (about a 25mins drive). There is currently one Pub in North Tawton which serves food (The White Hart) - try the Burger! ;-) The cottage is in a rural area which will give you privacy and time to relax but it also means that you will definitely need the car for whatever you are planning to do and the WiFi (or the Internet) is quite slow, so also a chance to take a break there - you are on vacation! ;-) We had a great time spending our 2 week family vacation at the Bale House and it is a really good location to explore Dartmoor and Devon.
