  • "What a beautifully situated cottage."

Andrew & Lyn made us very welcome and have equipped the cottage with every home comfort. Their home is next door and they're very approachable with any questions. Jackdaws is surrounded by countryside with beautiful views from 3 aspects, and there's a lovely outdoor seating area. We enjoyed watching the sheep in the surrounding fields, playing in the games barn, and playing with their 2 lovely labradors too. It's only 30 minutes from Dartmoor, and around an hour to the north or west coasts. Be warned…there are lots of narrow Devon country roads to navigate which were overgrown in some places, so if your car's paintwork is precious to you, you might prefer a property in a town. We however enjoyed the total peace & quiet of Jackdaws…and there's even an owl who twit twoos when night falls. A beautiful country cottage. Highly recommend.

Exceptionally well-equipped kitchen. It was nice that the owners were nearby but very unobtrusive. Games room was a super hit. Would definitely recommend.

  • "The lane to the cottage is very narrow."

Not a problem to us as we are used to it. However the hedges had not been cut back so after rain the car is hitting lots of grass etc

  • "Jackdaws Cottage was in the most beautiful location."

The cottage was extremely well appointed and very clean with excellent facilities. The owners Lyn & Andrew were very friendly and welcoming and happy to accommodate us all including a dog and 3 month old baby. We all felt that the cottage was actually much nicer than the photographs had indicated. We would definitely visit again and recommend to friends and family.

  • "The location was stunning - the views were breathtaking."

There was also such silence - no cars or traffic. Just the sounds of the sheep, cattle and sometimes geese and of course the birdsong. Perfectly located to reach both the North and South coast fairly easily it was also a great base for exploring as well as for long lazy days completing their many jigsaws, walking by the ponds or just admiring the view. The children loved the games barn. While we were incredibly lucky with the weather it was also helpful when the sun got too hot! It made the holiday very relaxing for mum and dad too! They also loved watching the lambs and moorhen chicks and looking for tadpoles. Andrew and Lyn are just lovely: very welcoming and helpful. However, because of the location of the barn and the way it faces it feels completely private. The barn is stuffed with leaflets and helpful info to help you make the most of your holiday. It's well stocked in the kitchen, a selection of games, books and jigsaws in the living room - there's even a list of dvds they own in case you would like to borrow any! We really couldn't fault it and after a gorgeous fortnight my nine year old cried as we drove away because she wanted to live there! To be honest, I think we all felt the same way.
