  • "The property is well located in Devon with everything Devon has to offer, not far away."

The property itself was very tidy, clean and perfect for a family of four, with dogs. We were able to keep the bikes dry overnight in the garage and enjoyed watching the changing weather across the Dartmoor hills.

  • "This property was superb."

Accommodation, views and owners were amazing. The only downside was the weather which unfortunately no-one has any control over. This did not stop us having a fantastic time. Perfectly placed to access many places of interest and also good for local walks and exploring.

  • "Loved the Shippen it is in a lovely rural setting, nothing to hear but the birds."

Its very peaceful and one of the most relaxing places we have been. The village is about a 20 min walk away along a lane or an easy drive. The local Fish and Chip shop is worth a visit as too is the Pizza take away. The cottage has a large kitchen, we were surprised with the fridge, its a tall up right and good size, we find in holiday rentals that the fridges are small and have no freezer space. Didn't have need to use the TV as we spent most evenings outside on the generous patio which has its own furniture and lovely views over the garden, fields and Dartmoor in the distance. Owners are friendly and on site for anything you may need.

  • "We had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage."

The Shippen was perfect, clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We usually opt for cottages that don't allow pets so we were delighted to find that despite being dog friendly The Shippen was totally hair and smell free! Our children loved the outside space which provided room to run around and play, it's perfect for a BBQ although the weather wasn't kind enough for us to enjoy one. The White Hart and The Railway both do great food and provide a very warm, friendly welcome with chatty, helpful staff and locals. There's plenty to do and explore in the area, the Granite Way cycle path was a highlight for us as it's ideal for families and provides stunning views of the countryside. Drogo Castle, Lydford Gorge and Simmons Park in Okehampton are all well worth a visit too.

  • "This was a wonderful property with outstanding views, I will say we were blessed with beautiful weather."

The room sizes were lovely, great entrance hall, large kitchen dinner and a large sitting room. Having stayed in several cottages over the years it was the small things that really stood out - soap at the sink and basins, cleaning produces for the kitchen, tea coffee and sugar enough for a week, ice blocks in the freezer. Little things yes but they make the stay so much more compatible. We met the owners who were lovely unfortunately we did have a problem, as with all properties things go wrong, however the owner were straight on to it, enabling us to continue our enjoyable stay. We would defiantly return

A wonderful cosy, comfy, clean, spacious and well appointed cottage. The cottage is not too far from the main road which made getting around and exploring easy. • "We had a wonderful stay at The Shippen."

The owners, Darren & Melanie, were wonderful hosts and very helpful. The Shippen had an enclosed lawned area for our dog to roam round in even though it wasn't a large area it was plenty. The facilities were top notch and it was a home from home. The views were fantastic. If you get the chance you need to visit Fingle Woods. It has wonderful walks and you can finish off your walk at the Fingle Bridge Inn, Drewsteignton which is situated on the River Teign. All in all we would definitely recommend The Shippen and hope to return again.
