Fantastic base for exploring Dartmoor yet so cozy that we didn’t feel guilty occasionally staying in with a good book, particularly enjoying the view from the upstairs sitting area. Would definitely visit again.

  • "Just what we needed."

the Stable was the perfect getaway. The lay out was exactly what was described but the view from the floor to ceiling window in the bedroom was exceptional and where we spent the evenings relaxing and enjoying the peaceful view over Dartmoor. The hosts were there when we arrived but there were no problems and they then left us to enjoy our holiday. The walk into NorthTawton only 20 minutes and the local Taw brewery tour experience was delightful. As a quiet getaway to relax and enjoy the walks of Dartmoor it was without fault

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage."

Good location for walks on Dartmoor. Very difficult to park in North Tawton so need to walk there if you want to go to the pubs etc. Only about 15 minute walk but up a narrow lane. We were happy to eat in the cottage or drive further afield.

There is an outside space for eating, with amazing views. The cottage is in an ideal location for exploring Devon, especially Dartmoor. There are lots of lovely places to visit nearby, Okehampton Castle and RHS Rosemoor. Darren and Melanie were very friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. We would highly recommend this cottage; a lovely romantic break for two!

  • "The hosts were always readily available and friendly."

Although The Stables accommodates two people the cottage kitchen had a wide range of equipment that can sometimes be lacking and a full set of cups, mugs plates etc rather than just two of each as we have found on occasions The lounge was comfortable and cosy whilst the seating area in the extensive bedroom had the most wonderful views complete with telescope! There was ample storage space and a quaint seating area on the enclosed patio. The property is well situated for access to tourist attractions and a short walk into the village.

  • "The perfect retreat from the everyday …… This was our second stay at The Stables, it's very comfortable, full of character, and the bedroom is outstanding both for sleeping and as a chill out area with views across the Devon countryside."

The property was spotless through-out on arrival and is very well appointed with just about anything you might need during your stay. North Tawton is only about a mile away and has a pub, café, and shop and if you need a bit more Okehampton is just a few miles further. If you're looking for somewhere quiet, comfortable, and in a great location we couldn't recommend The Stables highly enough.

Cosy, warm property reasonably kitted out with mod cons. Relaxed owners, hardly knew they were there. They were very helpful with details before arrival and welcoming when we did. They left clear instructions about the property and another file suggesting local attractions, restaurants, bus routes and amenities.

It is perfect for a couple (and their dog) and the owners are very welcoming and on hand (but not intrusive) if you need anything. The cottage itself is well appointed and has everything you need (we could maybe have used a baby gate to stop the dog wanting to go upstairs but the clothes airer did a good job!). It is beautifully decorated and the bedroom is large with gorgeous views from the large windows. We had a relaxing stay and visited lots of the surrounding atttactions which are all mainly within a hours drive. We would definitely recommend this cottage for a quiet and welcoming break.

  • "We had a lovely quiet week in this well equipped cottage which we used as a base for visiting the surrounding Dartmoor area with our dog."

The cottage had everything we needed including places to exercise our dog, both at the location and also just down the lane. The nearest shop is a local SPAR which is a 20 minute walk (or 3 minute drive) in the village and had everything we needed. For eating out we would recommend The New Inn at Coleford which is about 20 minutes by car but worth the trip as the local pubs in the village didn't look that good - The Fountain Inn is the nearest but doesn't do food. For a good day out, visit the South Devon Railway that runs between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. There is also a lovely park on the edge of Okehampton called Simmons Park. The owners of the cottages on Warden Farm are changing hands shortly so hopefully the new people will provide the same excellent service that we experienced.
