  • "We had a good week."

Cottage has everything you need. The icing on the cake would have been a bigger TV. The current one is very small and the sound is tinny.

Thank you so much for your comments. We always try and act upon client's recommendations and have now upgraded a TV to a larger size and added a sound bar. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely enchanting!"

It was our first visit to this part of Devon, it won’t be our last. We loved Noss Mayo. We were totally charmed by Cherry Tree Cottage It’s just perfect! Beautifully appointed, and well maintained. There were only 2 of us, and we made use of all the space, but can easily see a family of 4 or 2 couples being comfortable here & still having plenty of space. The ground floor master bedroom was lovely & spacious, plenty of storage space, lovely comfy bed, large en-suite bathroom (shower over the bath) with a washer & tumble dryer in the large storage closet off here. Lovely comfortable lounge, a huge selection of DVDs and some family games for guests to use. Well equipped 1st floor kitchen/dining room for self catering. Good sized fridge with small ice box plenty of room for a big shop (added advantage of a second fridge/freezer in the outhouse/shed should you need more room) a hallway with plentiful coat hooks leads to double bedroom 2 and en-suite shower room. The back garden is accessed off this level ……an explosion of colour with an abundance of hanging baskets/tubs and beautifully well kept flowering plants & shrubs comprises of a small decked area with a shed and a handy rotary drier with steps off taking you up to a loved top decked area that captures the evening sun & has views over to the river. At the front, there is a bench directly in front of the cottage and across the lane to the cottage there is a handy pull in parking space (big enough for a large 4WD) and behind this another wonderfully kept “secret” and very private garden outdoor seating. Which gives both sun & partial shade from morning right through till early evening. A truly lovely cottage that you fall in love with at first sight & it doesn’t disappoint at all.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments - we feel the garden is a little haven from the madness of life. Property Owner

  • "Thought the experience between ourselves/Sykes/cottage owner all a bit faceless."

For us we felt the cottage wasn't that dog friendly, supplying a dog bowl doesn't make it dog friendly. Enquired about a stair gate, none available. Names and telephone numbers were not accurate for contact and a message left on Mrs Charnley's phone on the Monday prior to arrival as we were instructed to do was ignored.

As dog owners of a toy poodle ourselves we have never used a stair gate nor have any of the many other dog loving clients ever requested one. Mrs P was informed there was no stair gate at the property before she arrived and was advised that we were more than happy for her to bring her own if necessary. We find the other comments equally inaccurate. Property Owner

It’s a beautiful location, absolutely loved Noss, and cherry tree feels like a welcoming and lovely home. The guest info was helpful and expansive. I would love to stay here again. However, Sykes, on an entirely separate note, I think you could do more to help the overall experience, in a saturated market I did not find dealing with you as easy or as pleasurable as I would have liked.

The Ferry across the estuary is the best way of accessing more walks without ever using the car. The Ship is excellent for food and service too. The Cafe on the Green served excellent snacks etc. Cheery Tree Cottage has lovely cotton sheets, and three wonderful places to sit and read, or chat. We used all three. I am counting the bench outside by the house too!

The car parking is great as it doesn’t involve driving around the narrow lanes! I’m not sure how easy it would be to park two cars however. The front garden is lovely, very pretty and private. (The slight disadvantage is having the kitchen upstairs when you want to eat outside). It would be nice to have cushions for the garden furniture. Noss Mayo is very beautiful, the cottage pretty and comfortable. We would definitely like to return.

I felt very much at home there, and the surrounding village is totally beautiful. I particularly liked all the artworks in the cottage. For me the only drawback was the narrowness of the approach roads, and although the parking area is good, care is needed when reversing out of it.

  • "Generally the cottage is good."

Perfect location, cosy and warm + and well equipped. But there is a very strong smell of damp downstairs, particularly in the bedroom.

We are sorry that you felt the cottage was damp recently. It is an old fisherman’s cottage with thick stone walls, which during the wettest October on record does need a little extra heat to stop this. We always encourage our guests not to be shy of increasing the temperature of the central heating and using the small, portable de-humidifier, in the cupboard with the washing machine and drier. We have found that this simple technique works over a couple of hours . Property Owner

  • "On arrival after a relatively lengthy journey in old cars in poor weather we were most pleasantly surprised by the welcoming feel to the cottage."

Kettle on, and feet up, we found it a relaxing pleasant place to be. The weather was determined to spoil things, but thankfully failed. The only issue from the incessant rain was a leak in the kitchen which appeared to be from the flue housing the hob extractor flue. It was dripping down onto the worktop. We simply put a bowl to catch the drips. It should be noted it was running past the split adaptor for the downlights, so could potentially short out if left wet for long enough. Whilst looking on top of the wall units I noticed that this was the only area of the cottage that wasn't spotlessly clean! The neighbours, Annabel on one side and Patrick on the other, were delightful, charming and most welcoming to us. They were probably the "magic ingredient" that made the holiday so special for us. Lots of information on the village and the region, friendly chit-chat and banter, they were instrumental in our enjoyment of our holiday. The little garden opposite is a delightful little haven of peace. Beautifully kept in a characterful unkempt style by the gardener we did enjoy a few minutes of happy time in there before the rain forced us in again.. I did unfortunately break a tea mug on the concrete. We did replace it with another, as close to the original as possible, but if found unacceptable when checked, please let me know. The inventory in the cottage seemed complete and comprehensive, short of nothing that we could see. The bed upstairs was beautifully comfortable. Downsides? None really. Access in and out of the village could be at times a little tedious, with the over-used narrow lanes requiring frequent back-ups to let oncoming traffic past. I think this might be annoying in July/ August, so we would probably not come then. At one point the ignitor on the gas hob refused to stop clicking, even when all the rings were turned off. On touching it I did receive a low voltage, high amperage shock. We switched it off at the mains, gave it a thorough clean, dried it completely, and on switching it on again, it seemed to be behaving itself. Would we come back? Definitely! I might even work on Gill to come back at the New Year, if the cottage is empty, and reasonably priced! I hope this little note satisfies your requirements, but do please feel free to come back to us if you wish. Michael and Gill Harcourt

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your stay at Cherry Tree Cottage. We have spoken with the owner who has arranged for 2 electricians to visit the property since your stay and has confirmed all electrical appliances are safe. We believe the torrential rain during your stay dislodged 2 tiles, allowing rain to drip into the kitchen, we have since had these tiles repaired. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future, fingers crossed for better weather! Property Owner

So this says it all. Bit disappointed that the previous week's guests were left wine and cake, whereas a basic not even any milk was left for us for a much deserving coffee on arrival. We were careless enough to pull the door to and get locked out mid week. Rang the first number...no, we couldn't leave an email. Rang the second mobile number....no answer. Jackie, our last resort at Helpful Holidays was excellent, professional and helpful. Seems that this has been an issue before us, so a 2nd keysafe has been installed. Had we have been able to contact the Caretaker first thing (or read this in the cotttage info on our arrival, had it been there) ..we would not have had to worry (despite it being our fault) and resolved in a few minutes. **Owner Response** We are sorry that, due to a delivery problem, no welcome pack was available. We were however very glad that our caretaker was able to respond promptly when our guests accidentally locked themselves out of the cottage.
