I stayed there alone with my dog for a much needed rest! Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

  • "Absolutely beautiful setting, you are surrounded by nature, the owners a lovely couple Linda and Kevin have placed a bird table outside which on arrival was full of treats for the birds."

The sheperds hut has everything you need and more. On arrival there was milk bread butter tomatoes eggs and a carton of juice so no need to go shopping straight away. If like us you want a relaxing break away from the present situation I can recommend the sheperds hut.

  • "Absolutely fab!"

The owners are lovely too and provide some basics - tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice, some fresh tomatoes and a scrummy home baked loaf. The Hut is SO cute and romantic and so many little touches - my puppy loved the dog bed and leapt straight in! It’s lovely and quiet, with only the odd rumble of traffic if the wind blows towards you. It’s mainly the tweeting of birds and splashing of the river you’ll hear. There’s a couple of owls that hoot away every night and the cockerel will crow each morning. Blissful. If you don’t have a car, bear in mind that there are no facilities in Jacobstowe itself. Busses are every half hour or so, in either direction. The nearest supermarket is in Hatherleigh. Our one and only disappointment was the fact the nearest pub - in Exbourne - was closed due to Covid which is just unfortunate timing. We both really needed this total break from ‘real life’ and loved every minute. We were hoping for a new lockdown to be enforced before we could go home!! Even the puppy was sad to leave.

  • "Had the most fantastic holiday in Devon staying at The Old Mill Shepherd's Hut."

Full of lovely details and comforts that made it feel like so much thought had been put into a more than comfortable stay. And the location was stunning! Being by the river, seeing and hearing all the wildlife as we sat outside every morning eating breakfast was amazing! The owners were absolutely lovely and made sure our stay was as enjoyable as it was. The area was beautiful, we swam at Chagford Pool and Bude Seapool and walked on the moors. Would definitely visit both the area and stay at the hut again. Didn't want to leave our little home from home!

  • "I can only describe it as A little bit of Paradise."

The location was lovely and private, our hosts Linds and Kevin were really friendly and helpful, we couldn't have wanted for more. We're looking forward to returning to see how the gardens have grown at some point in the future. The hut was bigger than we expected and so cosy and comfortable.

  • "Linda & Kevin are wonderful hosts."

We arrived for our stay on a Monday afternoon and were greeted by Linda who showed us to our private Shepherds Hut overlooking the river Okement. Inside our hut were a selection of home grown tomatoes, cucumber, butter and bread as well as complimentary tea and coffee, milk and juice etc. There was also a lovey little dog bed with towel and extras. The location of Jacobstowe is fantastic for visiting local attractions and we were able to visit both Devon and Cornish coastlines within a 30 to 40 mile radius. The weather was fantastic (August 2020) and we had such lovely evening walks. The river itself is great for a quick dip and we did have a swim or two in the lovely cool fresh waters. We couldn't fault this place and the wonderful history on the Mill. 100% recommend to all and we will most certainly be visiting again. Thank you.

  • "Where do I start!"

The Shepherds Hut is amazing. Location is perfect for sightseeing and visiting Dartmoor. Accommodation is located next to The river and is very peaceful. Owners have put a bird feeder outside the hut, so you can watch the wildlife including naughty squirrels. Owners have thought of everything. They provided bedding and towels. We arrived to a fresh loaf that had been made for us plus they had put butter, milk and fruit juice In the fridge. Accommodation has its own garden area with bbq, fire pit, table and chairs and pretty lights. Lovely area to sit in the evening and watch the wildlife. Owners very welcoming and friendly. They recommended a local farm shop just up the road, which makes very nice cider. If you want a relaxing break we would recommend staying here.
