  • "A delightful and charming cottage that I felt at home in as soon as I walked through the front door, is fully as described and matches photos."

Otterton is a wonderful location for a holiday, many beautiful walks on the doorstep, great local amenities, the mill and the pub. Do heed the owner's advice over parking, it's there for good reason as I unfortunately discovered. But I'm happy with how the owner dealt with my feedback. Would book again.

Thank you Jo for your kind feedback regarding the cottage, the local area and all that there is to visit and enjoy in and around Otterton. We look forward to you visiting again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Nice property , well equipped ."

Parking was a little hit and miss .Purely personal preference but I would prefer the main bedroom to be less 'ornate' and found the metal framed four poster bed more a hindrance than a feature. drapes/netting seemed more a dust trap than anything else. also bed was noisy when moving around. Great bathroom , kitchen and rest of property was good. Nice to find that Amazon prime account was still logged in but I suspect this might have been an error from a previous tenant ? Lovely local walks and the mill of course. Local pub a great Sunday lunch. Given all the additional heating I'm sure this would be a very comfy winter let.

Thank you for leaving your feedback and that you found your stay at 11 The Green a nice property and well equipped. We are also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the local walks, some right from the doorstep, and visiting the Pub and the Mill in the village. We look forward to welcoming you back to Otterton again in the future. Property Owner

  • "This is a wonderful beautifully presented cottage in an absolutely stunning location."

We took our dog and enjoyed a number of walks together which were recommended from the folder on the table including walks up and down the river and the local area. The cottage was clean, well equipped with everything we needed and just a couple of minutes walking distance to a well stocked community shop, pub that serves good food and the wonderful mill where we had lunch and a takeaway pizza. We really appreciated the fresh milk and local fudge and biscuits which we took out with us and the wonderful stock of books and maps especially those that covered the local area as it helped us to plan our days. Everyone that we visited while we were there was friendly and welcoming and we had a really enjoyable and relaxing break.

Thank you for your feedback it is much approciated, so glad you enjoyed your stay at 11 The Green and were able to enjoy some of the walks from the suggestions we leave for guests that are straight from the door to explore the surrounding countryside. Also that you were able to plan your days out from the information supplied and get to exprience all that the area has to offer and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Great area for exploring the countryside and although right on the high street really quiet. Quick response from the housekeeper for one question. All in all a good experience. The only downside from our stand point was the ceiling and door frame height. If you’re over 5:10 you need to watch your head everywhere.

Thank you for your feedback it is much approciated, so glad you enjoyed your stay at 11 The Green and that Louise our housekeeper was on hand to help. Unfortunately as the cottage is 200 years old there are a couple of low lintels above the doors as mentioned in the details for the cottage and we hope that it didn't affect your stay too much. Otterton is a lovely East Deveon village and an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The property was of a very good standard, in a great position and well equipped."

The only downside was a problem with the the boiler and hot water. On the first day the water was warm, the next morning lukewarm and that evening cold. We read the various instructions (which turned out to be out of date) and thought it was an issue we could fix. Alas this was not the case and it later transpired that there had been a problem with the boiler the previous week. Had we been made aware of this at the start of our holiday we would have reported the matter earlier. Despite this my main issue is with the Sykes Customer Relations team. The emails I received were officious, defensive, inaccurate and lacking in empathy. There was no mention of an apology for the inconvenience we suffered and the team more or less blamed us for the fact we had been without hot water for 4 days. The Customer Relations team seemed more concerned about looking after the interests of the owners rather than both parties. A very poor attitude. By contrast, the owners were courteous and sympathetic when I spoke to them.

Thank you for your feedback and we are very sorry for the unfortunate set of circumstances that led to the problem with the hot water. The guests the previous week had broken the immersion element in the hot water tank that we thought had been fixed but they left early and failed to mention that it hadn't been rectified. It was a bank holiday when you arrived and we were unaware that there was still a problem so when you reported it on the Bank Holiday Monday the problem was fixed within 24 hours, we did offer alternative accommodation on the night you reported the incident which you rejected but you did receive financial compensation. The hot water instructions have also now been updated. Otterton is a lovely village and a great base for discovering East Devon and we hope that you will return to the area again. Property Owner

  • "Fabulously cosy cottage."

We loved our stay over Christmas. We had everything in the cottage that we could need to create a fabulous Christmas break. The weather was awful during our stay, extremely wet, resulting in a very wet access to the cottage (puddles). Lighting outside the front door and on the patio area outside the conservatory doors would be beneficial, as these areas are very slippery when wet and dark. Despite this, we would have no hesitation in returning or in recommending.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback comments it’s very much appreciated and we will certainly look into seeing if we can get some lighting for the front of the cottage and the patio area at the rear. • "The cottage was utterly charming, clean, very well-equipped ( I only missed a large casserole for a bourguignon) and beautifully presented."

It seems churlish to carp but my wife and I did notice that some sort of blinds/awning/sunscreen system in the south facing conservatory would make this delightful sun-trap more usable in the baking summer heat. That said, it was an absolute pleasure, it made our (daughter’s graduation) week and we’d love to come back in the autumn.

So glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your time visiting Otterton and the surrounding countryside and for taking the time to leave feedback it’s very much appreciated. There should have been a couple of casserole dishes at the cottage and I will check with our housekeeper to make sure they haven't been damagaed and not replaced. Reading between the lines (and a comment from the neighbours) it seems there may be some history of parking and noise conflict, that same neighbour needs to realise his noise also travels especially at 1am.

My wife, myself and our dog like to stay in a two bedroom property, for a week, once or twice a year, down on the South Coast of England. This cottage was just right for us. Here's why: two decent sized bedrooms (considering the property is pretty old), comfy bed, warm & powerful shower, well specified kitchen (only the dishwasher was out of order but nevermind), decent sofa & chair for evening Netflix series watching on the iPad, table and chairs in separate sun room, outside space for quiet al fresco dining (the joyous sound of the outside school assembly from the village primary school made us smile & the church bells on the hour pretty handy), garden bench @ the top of the garden for evening drinks and nibbles in the sun, decent pub a short walk away and parking available just across the road. We're walkers and particularly enjoyed walks from Branscombe & Beer. A great place from which to explore the South East Devon coastline. Thank you

Cottage was on very busy main road no parking neighbours made us move car even though it was on a road bathroom way to small no comfortable seating at all telly from the 80s very over looked

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, we are sorry to read your comments. We do kindly ask guests to park opposite the cottage out of respect for full-time residents being able to park outside their homes. The website clearly shows the location of the cottage, this is not a very busy road and parking nearby shouldn't be a problem. The suite is a leather Chesterfield and we have not previously received comments about this. The TV is not from the 80's, it runs with WiFi and has iPlayer etc. Finally, the garden seating area is private and there is a fence and a high hedge further up the garden. Property Owner

Considerable thought had been given to furnishing the property and we loved the various 'bits and pieces' which helped create a lovely atmosphere. • "Really lovely cottage, which had everything we needed."

The main bed was quite soft and for us, was hard to get comfortable in and we ended up using the twin beds in the other room. Also, there were two Cockrel within a few houses and they crowed from 4am to late in the evening and due to the heat closing the windows was not an option so our sleep was not optimal. The area has great walks and for nature lovers otters and kingfishers are obvious and nearby. Overall this is a great property which can be a home from home, but the noise from the nearby cockrel really dampened our enjoyment.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your stay at 11 The Green. The cockerel was owned by neighbours who lived 3 doors away and as you can imagine the noises were out of our control. However, to reassure yourself and future guests the cockerel is no longer at the property! About the location

OTTERTON

Budleigh Salterton 3 miles; Sidmouth 3 miles.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard. Offering a quieter but no less beautiful holiday destination than the rest of the county it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind, and is just 3 miles from the Regency coastal resort towns of both Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path as it meanders above the waves towards the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’ beaches with their abundant fossils. Ladram Bay with its red-stone sea stacks is just one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the banks of the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife play while just down the road from the village is Bicton Park and Botanical Gardens, 60 acres of garden lovers’ paradise. For a really interesting hour or two, visit the last working flour mill on the river Otter - it’s in the village and the flour is superb. There’s much to do and see in this beautiful and unspoilt area but if you want to explore further afield, the open spaces and high tors of Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour while the Cathedral city of Exeter with its superb shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is a mere 10 miles.
