  • "Had a great stay."

    Found the cottage to be of high standard in cleanliness with facilities as advertised. The location is very convenient for town and supermarkets. Adjacent parking can be a bit hit and miss depending upon the time of day, but always able to find parking on Plymouth Road; 5 - 6 mins easy walk away. Garden was a real bonus, and not just for the dogs. All in all, had a terrific time, and already thinking about a follow-up stay!

  • "We had a lovely time at Bluebell Cottage."

    The description and photos were accurate. The cottage is comfortable, clean and has every thing you may need for a holiday. We were informed of the steepness of the stairs to the bedroom and the occasional difficulty in parking in front of the cottages but did not find it an issue. We have a dog so the proximity to the park was a big bonus. The owners were very responsive when we contacted them. We will definitely choose Bluebell cottage if you return to Tavistock.

  • "Ideal location for Tavistock."

    Parking can be difficult near by. Also we didn't specify it was for two single people, therefore second bedroom was not made up. Otherwise nice cottage, clean and comfortable. Thankyou

  • "The cottage was attractive with lovely pictures , floor and lots of storage."

    But badly let down by so much missing. Half a toilet roll and no spares, no liner in the kitchen bin and no rubbish bags, no washing up liquid or kitchen cloths.Beds not made up in second bedroom. A shame as very good otherwise .

  • "Basic, but perfectly adequate cottage in Tavistock, Devon."

    Ideal base to explore Dartmoor National Park, The Tamar Valley and South East Cornwall. A short walk into Tavistock town through a lovely park to a town with good restaurants, delicatessens and good general amenities. We would book again without doubt.

  • "This cottage was the perfect place to stay to explore Dartmoor."

    It was clean and tidy. The beds were really comfortable. We arrived to milk in the fridge, butter, potatoes, pain au chocolate, and best of all freshly laid eggs with a photo of the lovely hens who laid them. I would definitely stay here again. (Although one well behaved dog is welcome be aware that the garden is not fully enclosed and so a lively dog can get into other people’s gardens).

  • "A fantastic little cottage in a beautiful town, right in the middle of spectacular countryside."

    A perfect place for a get away. We loved staying here. The cottage is spacious, perfect for a family holiday. (2 bedrooms, the 2 single beds share a room). Loads of DVDs for rainy days! Would definitely stay here again. Elly couldn't have been more helpful with any queries we had. 3 supermarkets are literally 3 minutes drive away, Lidl , Tesco and Morrisons so shopping for food is easily taken care of. The town is spectacular, with a play park within 5 minutes walk and swimming pools within 10 minutes walk. The only slight caveat I would put in is that you need to be aware that parking can be a little tricky. There is not enough room for everyone on the road outside the cottages, however you can park on the industrial estate which is just 2 minutes walk away. (Not that you'd know it was there, its tucked out of view!) The road can get very busy but it's not a problem.

The property

Settled in the bustling town of Tavistock is this 172 years old listed cottage, Bluebell Cottage, an end-terrace and one of a historic collection of properties built by the Duke of Bedford for mine workers.

This charming two-bedroom dwelling boasts beautifully preserved, original features like the granite tiled floor and Grade II listed porch entrance, creating a characterful base to return to after adventures in the nearby Tamar Valley AONB and Dartmoor National Park.

Head inside the cottage and come into the lovely kitchen, which houses all you need for rustling up delicious meals for the group, with an electric oven and gas hob among the appliances.

Move into the elegant dining room, a snug space but perfectly seating all four guests so you can come together at the end of the day to enjoy more quality time.

Find comfort in the charming sitting room where a woodburning stove rests within the fireplace, adding a welcome warmth in winter, while a sofa and armchair offer lovely spots to unwind before the TV, perfect for catching up on your favourite shows.

The ground floor is completed by the bathroom, home to a bath with an overhead shower, so you can freshen up with a long soak or a quick shower, whatever you prefer!

Travel up the steep cottage stairs to find the delightful bedrooms, with a pretty twin bedroom perfect for children or friends sharing, and the double room enjoying a sky blue feature wall, along with attractive pine furniture for your things.

The cottage is just over the road from a nearby shop so you won't have to go far for any ingredients or essentials, whilst the town centre can be reached via a pleasant stroll through Tavistock Park which has a children's play area, a sensory garden and tennis courts, with Tavistock Canal running through it and a delightful café to stop at too.

Once you've reached the heart of this West Devon town, make sure to visit the Tavistock Pannier Market, a well-known indoor market with a range of quality stalls and over 900 years of history, whilst Tavistock's streets are lined with excellent independent shops, restaurants, and pubs, with Tavistock Museum being the place to go to understand the town's rich heritage.

Follow the river north and venture into the beautiful Dartmoor National Park to discover a multitude of activities from hiking up Roos Tor and Pew Tor, to exploring the vast Foggintor Quarry, or heading to the Dartmoor Prison Museum in Princetown to see displays on prison history dating back to 1809.

Head south to find amazing places like the Yellowmead Stone Circles and Hingston Hill Cairn Circle, while the Burrator Reservoir is perfect for enjoying walks around the waterside, or for a spot of fly-fishing.

Spend a day at The Tamar Valley Donkey Park to meet some new furry friends, before heading to the National Trust's Cotehele, a tapestry-lined Tudor house with formal gardens to wander.

The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a wonderful place for kayaking or canoeing enthusiasts to explore the countryside via the River Tamar, with a host of outdoor activity organisers offering guided kayak tours if you're a beginner.
