  • "It started on arrival, the key safe on the front door yielded a key- but it did not fit!"

it took a minute or two to realise it fitted the back door - the book INSIDE the property told us this. The armchair in the living room was saggy and grubby the single beds were most uncomfortable. We were warned that the stairs were steep but not that it did not have a handrail - I am surprised this is not mandatory for a let cottage Otherwise the cottage was well equipped and well located - apart from the lottery of parking (which was pointed out)

Dear Mr. Stark, We are pleased you found our authentic Victorian cottage well equipped and convenient. We are always available to help and could have explained the feather filled seat cushion requires “plumping “ occasionally. Yes, the white cloth arms do get marked when guests remove the protective covers so get scheduled cleaning. The listed stairs get multiple clear photos by Cornish Holidays showing you what’s there. Sorry the new soft mattresses didn’t suit you however it’s a very personal thing as other feedback is positive ,see below. We would have preferred to share these answers during your stay in the hope it made things more enjoyable. Thank you again and we are always ready to help you . Property Owner

  • "Enjoyed staying in this historic cottage."

Cosy, warm and well equipped with comfortable beds. Couldn't find egg cups or broom. Parking tricky as stated but we managed ok.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our home. A broom is kept under the stairs with the vacuum cleaner. Thank you again for staying with us. Property Owner

  • "It is a nice and clean cottage but the mattrasses of the beds are not good."

It was lovely weather but the garden is totally not maintained with old garden furniture.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, we are glad you found Bluebell Cottage to be nice and clean. It is regrettable you didn’t like the garden furniture pictured and the mattresses didn’t suit. Both single mattresses are only two years old and both myself and my family use all of the mattresses ourselves. We are sorry to hear that you felt the garden was not well maintained, we do tend to it weekly, rain permitting, and if you had contacted us during your stay, we would have come over to rectify any issues. The property

Historic Bluebell Cottage is centrally located in the bustling town of Tavistock.

This 172 year old Grade II listed end of terrace cottage is one of a historic collection of properties built by the Duke of Bedford for mine workers, and would delight guests who have an interest in period features and local history.

This charming two-bedroom dwelling boasts beautifully preserved, original features like the granite tiled floor and porch entrance, creating a characterful base to return to after adventures in the nearby Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dartmoor National Park.

Victorian photographs of local scenes add to the historic atmosphere and are joined with scenic paintings by local artists to complete the period feel.

Head inside the cottage and come into the lovely kitchen, which houses all you need for rustling up delicious meals for the group, with an electric oven and gas hob among the appliances.

Move into the dining room, a snug space but perfectly seating all four guests so you can come together at the end of the day to enjoy more quality time. There is also a comfortable chair in this room for those who might like to find a quiet corner to read.

Find comfort in the charming sitting room where a woodburning stove rests within the fireplace, adding a welcome warmth in winter, while a sofa and armchair offer lovely spots to unwind before the TV, perfect for catching up on your favourite shows.

The ground floor is completed by the bathroom, home to a bath with an overhead shower, so you can freshen up with a long soak or a quick shower, whatever you prefer!

Travel up the traditional, steep cottage stairs to find the delightful bedrooms, with a pretty twin bedroom perfect for children or friends sharing and the double room enjoying a sky blue feature wall, along with attractive pine furniture for storage.

The cottage is just over the road from a nearby shop so you won't have to go far to stock up on essentials, whilst the town centre can be reached via a pleasant stroll through Tavistock Park which has a children's play area, a sensory garden and tennis courts, with Tavistock Canal running through it and a delightful café to stop at too.

The whole town is a world heritage site with special points of interest, including Tavistock church dating back over 800 years. Once you've reached the heart of this West Devon town, make sure to visit the Tavistock Pannier Market, a well-known indoor market with a range of quality stalls and over 900 years of history, whilst Tavistock's streets are lined with excellent independent shops, restaurants, and pubs, with Tavistock Museum detailing the town's rich heritage.

Follow the river north and venture into the beautiful Dartmoor National Park to discover a multitude of activities from hiking up Roos Tor and Pew Tor, to exploring the vast Foggintor Quarry, or heading to the Dartmoor Prison Museum in Princetown to see displays on prison history dating back to 1809.

Head south to find amazing places like the Yellowmead Stone Circles and Hingston Hill Cairn Circle, while the Burrator Reservoir is perfect for enjoying walks around the waterside, or for a spot of fly-fishing.

Within the Dartmoor National Park there are many sites; experience a show at the Dartmoor Hawking Falconry Experience or go back in time within a visit to the National Trust owned Cotehele, a medieval house with Tudor additions.

The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a wonderful place for kayaking or canoeing enthusiasts to explore the countryside via the River Tamar, with a host of outdoor activity organisers offering guided kayak tours if you're a beginner.

Make amazing memories in this lively part of Devon at Bluebell Cottage.
