  • "Owners have this property for sale which is reflected in certain aspects"

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. As you will have noted in the estate agent window on the High Street, the cottage is up for sale. This is entirely for personal reasons and would not want this to impact on our guests. We are not able to comment on the aspects you have referred to in your feedback, as you have not confirmed what these are, or reached out to us or Sykes when staying. We are always happy to hear from our guests with any queries, to give us feedback, or to address any issues should they arise. Our contact details were available for you. We hope you enjoyed your stay, despite there being some aspects that had impacted it and that overall your stay in Porlock was a positive one. Property Owner

  • "The Mews Cottage is well appointed with all the facilities required for a comfortable and relaxing stay."

It was well presented, clean with clear instructions for all appliances in the handy visitors manual. The only minor issue was the parking space allocated for the propery. Fortunately we read previous reviews and opted to travel in our smaller car, which proved to be a perfect fit. Our longer car would have caused an obstruction for other vehicles visiting the neighbouring properies. All in all we thoroughlt enjoyed our stay and there was plenty to see and do within the week.

  • "We had a lovely week at Mews Cottage."

Lots of lovely walks direct from the door. The cottage is very well equipped and cosy, just right for the two of us. The local food shops are good and a great butcher too. We managed the tight parking easily, but this might be more of a problem when all the allocated spaces are full. There is a car park very close though. The only things missing were salt and pepper! And maybe a mixing bowl!

The only thing was outside.Parking was good, but the outside area could do with tidying up.Realise that you probably have no control over this,as other properties nearby, are unused or in the process of being improved.Otherwise, thanks for a great break.

  • "We stayed at Mews for a week from the 15th July."

It’s a quaint cottage ideally situated a few yards off the high street in the pretty village of Porlock. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable with ample room upstairs and down for us and our large dog. It had everything in place we needed and the village has everything you’d need with several pubs serving good food and convenience stores. There are walks on your doorstep and only a short walk to the pebble ridge beach. Would recommend booking a table in the pubs as they did get busy. The only negative was that the cleaning company hadn’t emptied the outside bin which was full to the brim on arrival through to us leaving and a few cob webs inside.

The cottage is comfortable and nicely equipped. It was perfect for us, but I would miss outside space in spring and summer! That did not detract from our stay at all in March! Very lovely!

  • "The property is in a great location and very clean."

Thoroughly enjoyed being able to walk out from the property to a number of great walks around Porlock. Going out in the evening without the car is also a big plus, but I would say that the quality of eating establishments in Porlock is generally poor. On the negative side, the parking here is limited and ease of parking is not great, particularly if your car is large. This is not made clear in the property listing. Also the outlook from the property is poor, overlooking bins from other properties. Overall a lovely stay, but the property does have limitations that are not necessarily highlighted in the website

  • "Lovely cottage, very cozy, clean and in a very great location."

We were very positively surprised with how well equipped kitchen is, you literally can find there everything you may need. We fully recommend staying in The Mews, if you want to get away from big city and everyday's rush, as Porlock is a perfect place in my opinion to just turn off your devices and enjoy nature and company of your loved ones without distractions. We'd love to be back someday, but maybe next time in the summer. Cheers!

The owner and cleaning company were notified and couldn't have been nicer about our change in circumstances. As it was very wet during our stay, the access road to the cottage was very muddy. The dog towel by the door was perfectly placed! The kitchen has everything you could possibly need The cottage was warm, welcoming and spotlessly clean. It is a perfect location for exploring the village of Porlock and surrounding areas.

  • "In the spirit of constructive criticism, in the cottage description."

...all fuel included, we were disappointed to find there was no starter pack for the log burner, late on a cold afternoon with shops shut, finding logs was a bit of a bind, and we had been on the road for hours' so not a good start. [ the heating was on low and it was quite chilly in the living room ] I did email the owner, thinking that a phone call was not necessary but had no reply, also not a good start. If for any reason fuel was not provided, Covid?, just let us know, we have a wood burner and would happily bring supplies. So apart from that the cottage was immaculately clean, beds comfy, shower great, well equipped and comfy, had a great week enjoying the autumn colours. PS: the Bottom Ship gets five stars. I must apologise for not responding sooner however your email had no subject heading and my virus software treated it as spam. Thank you for your feedback, we do not supply logs for the fire and apologise if you believed we did so. To prevent any confusion to future guests we will make this clearer in the description. I am pleased your wife found logs in one of the two shops in the village one closing at 8pm and the other closing at 10pm. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and agree, Exmoor is beatiful in the autumn. Property Owner

Nice walks in village to Weir, marshes and also up the hill past the school Woolacombe, Lynmouth, Blue Anchor and Watchet worth a visit. Don't recommend Burnham on sea. Do not be put off about parking the allocated bay is adequate for a medium size car

  • "The cottage is very centrally placed in the village."

There are several pubs to choose from. We visited before indoor service was permitted, so not as much choice as there will be after May 17th. There is a Spar and One Stop very handy. If you like walking it's a wonderful area to visit. The South West coastal path has stunning scenery.

Everything is working perfectly. The cottage is situated near the shop and you can access lovely path for long walk. The only downside no garden and the parking is tricky to use if you have a large car.

About the location

PORLOCK

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
