  • "Contacting the owners for details of key collection was very poor."

Took numerous phone calls / e-mails to get any response. Security of back door very poor. Kitchen cleanliness very poor. Oven & hob were dirty with cobwebs in the cooker alcove. Fridge not housed safely hence door did not always stay closed and it wobbled when milk cartons were housed in the door. Fridge needed cleaning before use. Crockery not as clean as expected. Cups and mugs heavily stained - needed bleaching then washing before using. Toaster full of crumbs. Shortage of cutlery - only 3 desert spoons and 4 teaspoons and no really sharp kitchen knives. Lack of instructions for amenities. Wi-fi not available in master bedroom hence the Smart TV facilities not usable. Sofas not very comfortable and dining table and chairs did not match. Whole lodge could benefit from a good clean. Considering the price charged and the 5* rating it did not come up to expectations. We were fully expecting it to match/exceed previous Sykes rentals.

  • "The bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely, modern and comfortable."

However the sofa smelt so badly of dogs that even my two young children refused to sit on it! Kitchen is poorly equipped with breakfast bowls and badly designed for cooking. No information was provided about the cottage or local area which would have been very helpful. Cottage is set in beautiful grounds. Hannah, the property manager, was hard to get hold of prior to our arrival. I emailed, text and called with no response. When we had no water during our stay, due to a fault, we waited hours for her to respond and got no follow up. Chris who came to fix the issue was amazing, kept in regular contact with us and bought us bottled water until the issue was resolved.

  • "Kitchen needed more cereal /soup bowls (only had 4 very small single weetabix sized ones) also some more mugs."

Just a suggestion that Kitchen layout could have been designed better with a much needed Dishwaser where fridge currently is , and then the fridge could be integrated under far side of breakfast bar by back door .This would free up some of the space around sink draining area and give a better removal/filling area to fridge. This would still leave adequate cupboard storage for pots . Bedrooms/Bathrooms top quality ....apart from major coat hanger shortage ! Superb location , loved the walks to Culbone Church and Robbers Bridge.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Your points for improvement are much appreciated and have been passed onto the Property Manager. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay overall and would love to invite you back anytime in the future Property Owner

  • "Very good holiday."

In the main, very positive, with only a couple of negative remarks: An instruction booklet, for the appliances, would have been helpful, as pretty general, in holiday accomodation. The washing machine is a little past it's, 'sell by' date and the description might have been taken as a Washer / Drier, as in Tumble Dryer, which is not the case. Security of the rear door is a little minimal, especially given the quite remote location, ie, the lower 'bolt' does not engage and the upper, easily drops out. There are emergency contact numbers, but mobile 'phone signal is non existent. Rear garden / lawn is quite 'rustic' and might benefit from some attention. Many, many positives though and we very much enjoyed our stay - hot water and showers / bath are excellent. Plenty of cooking utensils and plates / cutlery, if required - cereal bowls a little, 'minimal' though.

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on your stay at Yearnor Moor Lodge. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay overall and always appreciate notes for improvement! We hope to see you again soon! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week at Yearnor Moor Lodge."

Plenty of room for the 4 of us and garden/woods to explore for the boys. The cottage is well presented and somewhere we quickly felt at home. There’s some good walks and cycling nearby and Porlock, Lynmouth, Minehead and Woolacombe are easy to get to. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

  • "Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location."

Lots of outdoor space and new garden furniture but you are unable to eat at the table as the top is so wobbly, try to cut up food and your drink spills! Very comfy beds and beautiful ensuite shower rooms.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Yearnor Moor Lodge. It's lovely to hear how much you have enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

About the location

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
