It's a great location for exploring Dartmoor and fantastic walks from the cottage. The cottage was really cosy and we enjoyed the log burner. Our host was very friendly and helpful and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Thank you.

This hoilday was a long time coming and worth every bit of the wait. My family had the best Christmas we have ever had. My 11 year old loved the cowes and tuned into a little farm boy. Can't recommend enough this was the perfect hoilday. Will will be back and even looked on right move about possibly moving the Devon. Thank you so much x

  • "Very cosy, welcoming and spacious cottage in wonderful setting - remote, yet only 5 minutes walk to the village (complete with shop, church & pub)."

It's hard to find the lane even when you know! And the 'Penlee Farm' sign has gone. But it's right between the church and a white-painted B&B with sign, and opposite two big mirrors.

Postbridge is a lovely village and was a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor and the rest of Devon. We had a lovely week and very much hope to return!

  • "We had a lovely stay in the Annexe."

It is incredibly peaceful, nestling among the trees but with some good views, too. We liked walking down to the clapper bridge in the evening when few people were there, and dropping in at the village store in the morning to buy our hot pasties when heading out for walks farther afield. We enjoyed just being in the Annexe, too, there is a nice feeling of space in the open plan living room/kitchen, and it was all very comfortable. The owners are just next door and it was nice to have a chat now and then. We hope to come again soon.

Luckily I had some but I don't always. Otherwise there was generous availability of heating - bathroom towel rail, a wood burner and convector heater as well as working storage heaters. A new fry pan was provided when I pointed out how distorted their one was! We'd happily return there!

The cottage is well-appointed, it has comfortable seating, good beds and a nice fireplace for cosy evenings. There's outdoor seating just out the back, no direct access but only a short distance along the footpath. The views from the small porch are lovely and it's only a short walk down into lovely Postbridge.

The property had everything needed to make our stay an excellent one. The location is ideal, even though Postbridge is very popular with walkers, we hardly saw anyone walk by the cottage on the permissive path/bridleway. So enjoyed our stay we have already booked it again.

Short walk downhill to (dog friendly) pub and village or another takes you down steep rocky path to river. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Postbridge would benefit from a cafe or coffee shop, there are plenty of visitors and walkers passing through. Post Office offers limited refreshments with just four wooden tables outside.

The property

At the end of a private track about half a mile from the centre of the Dartmoor village of Postbridge is this cottage created from the end of a Victorian farmhouse.

Head up the steps into the porch and through French windows into the comfortable open plan living area with seating area with cosy wood burning stove, dining area and neat kitchen area.

Stairs lead you up to the two bedrooms, each with pleasant view of the garden or moors, and a bathroom.

Along the track at the back, you have a garden with big lawn surrounded by trees.

At the front, a footpath leads you to the village pub and shop in about five minutes.

Beyond the house is lovely Dartmoor countryside and open moorland, with lots of walking routes to choose from and fishing in the River Dart.

This is the heart of Dartmoor, where you will get cream teas and ice creams from the village shop and you can find the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre.

The remote pub at the Warren House is worth visiting to see the fire that never goes out, and Plymouth, Exeter and beaches are only about twenty miles away.

This is a lovely area for walking or seeing the amazing scenery, with The Annexe an excellent base.

About the location

Chagford 6.9 miles; Okehampton 18.7 miles; Plymouth 21.0 miles.

Postbridge lies in the centre of Dartmoor between Moretonhampstead and Two Bridges, next to the East Dart River. It is an idyllic place to uncover Dartmoor's archaeology and showcases one of the finest clapper bridges in the country, believed to date back to medieval times and would probably have replaced stepping stones to assist packhorses cross the babbling river. Well positioned to enjoy an array of activities, Postbridge boasts fantastic walking and cycling routes in nearby Bellever Forest, as well as several archaeological remains including roundhouses, stone rows and a burial cyst. From here, you can also visit the remains of a 19th- century gunpowder factory known as Powdermills, which produced gunpowder for the local quarries and mines. Popular tourist spots such as Okehampton and Plymouth are also easily accessible from here by car, making this a holiday destination to savour.
