Broad Close Farm Cottages

These two cosy cottages are annexed to the owners' farmhouse, situated on a working smallholding, in the rural tranquillity of mid Devon, close to the small village of Rackenford. The cottages will appeal in particular to couples who enjoy the outdoor life and the fresh air. The owners give guests a warm welcome and will introduce you to Gloria and Gracie, the resident sows, plus Colin the cockerel and his six girls, who wander around the orchard. There is an abundance of wild birds including house martins and swallows that nest in the eaves. There is a shared enclosed private garden provided for guests who wish to relax in the sunshine or watch the birds, farm animals and wildlife. There is a charming ten-minute walk from the farm to Rackenford village, with community shop and The Stag Inn, a 12th century welcoming thatched pub full of friendly locals, decent ales and local food. For keen walkers, the Two Moors Way is close by and a large selection of circular walks will help you explore Knowstone Moor, with a wide diversity of wildlife across this unique Culm grassland nature reserve. Exmoor National Park is a short drive away and with plenty of National Trust properties in the area, some fabulous villages and farm shops, these attractive cottages provide you with a real taste of rural Devon.

The small village of Rackenford is ringed by farms, and agriculture is still the largest single source of employment. Unlike so many small villages, there is still a school, a village shop, a traditional village local The Stag Inn and a social club, providing a strong community spirit. You can discover Village Day on Rackenford Common, the November 5th bonfire, the Garden Club's spring and autumn shows to name just a few. A truly great village with a vibrant community!
