  • “The cottage is perfect in every shape and form, very clean, appliances all seem new, everything was spotless which makes you want to leave everything as clean as you found it, the garden was laid out lovely and again all seems new we have stayed in quite a few cottages through out the UK and this is by far the only place we have felt a home from home experience instantly.”

Village life is perfect as this was the first time we have stayed in a cottage that was in a village, normally they are remote. Pubs in village are fantastic , village shop sells the basics but seems to be open daily, walks on your doorstep get you away from it all in an instance. Perfect break away

The property

This grade 11 listed thatched cottage sits in the quaint village of Sticklepath on the edge of The Dartmoor National Park.

Bracon Cottage is full of character with plenty of original features including original oak beams and flooring. On entering the cottage, the porch opens into the kitchen diner with beautiful bespoke oak units and worktops. It is very well equipped with a range cooker with induction hob, microwave, toaster, fridge and washing machine. From the kitchen you enter the rear hall, which has a cloakroom with washbasin and WC. Also in the hall there are coat hooks, walking sticks and an oak coffer, giving you somewhere to sit while removing your walking boots after a ramble. The cosy sitting room has comfy sofas, an electric log burner style fire, DVD player, selection of DVDs and Freesat TV connected to the internet for your entertainment. Stairs from the back hall lead to two good sized, tastefully decorated bedrooms each with a king-size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has a full size bath with mains shower over, washbasin, WC and heated towel rail. All the doors in the cottage are hand made from oak in classic traditional style. Outside there is an enclosed small courtyard with seating. Off the courtyard is the private parking space for a medium sized car and gate to the enclosed garden which enjoys sun all day. Sticklepath is a lovely village with two good village pubs and a shop. Directly opposite the cottage is the National Trust Finch Foundry, the only working water driven foundry in the country and a fine example of Victorian engineering. A ten minute drive away is Okehampton, which offers supermarkets including Waitrose, individual shops, a museum, a cinema, leisure centre and places to eat. Dartmoor National Park is on the doorstep offering great walks, cycling and birdwatching. If a day at the beach is on your agenda, the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall are within easy reach. Bracon Cottage offers a peaceful base from which to explore Dartmoor and the surrounding area.
