  • "Had a nice few days here, slightly disappointed with the lack of bin bags, luckily I had bought my own and owner did apologise."

Very cold downstairs at night, we used an extra duvet. Super views and plenty of living space but the property felt a bit run down, eg, not enough cereal bowls for everyone, lots of chipped crockery. Also the oven wasn’t working when we arrived, we had to google a fix which involved setting the time, got there in the end though! We actually left a day early as the 9am check out just wasn’t possible with a family of 6 including stripping and bagging all bedding/towels. Could have done with a second key. Sadly, the pictures promised a lot but the house didn’t quite live up to expectations for us.

  • "We stayed at the property as a family of 8…5 adults 3 kids over Christmas from 23rd-27th December."

The house itself is beautiful, noisy floor boards but a lovely house, spacious and clean and the kids loved the hot tub! We paid £2.5k for the 4 days, and for this amount of money unfortunately there was quite a few let downs. There was a serious lack of any personal touches for the stay. I’ve stayed at many home rentals and always been greeted with fresh milk, enough bin bags, cleaning equipment, salt and pepper, toilet rolls, travel toiletries etc. there was none of this, so when we arrived we had to go shopping for basic things. When we booked for a Christmas stay we asked that because we have 3 children coming could they confirm there would be a Christmas tree which we was told absolutely yes…well I’ve honestly never seen such a sad £10 Tesco tree ever, zero effort with that, really disappointing ! The kitchen window didn’t open, so cooking meals for a family of 8 was not a nice experience. Downstairs smelt damp and felt damp especially in the two single rooms joined by sliding doors, my son has asthma so we had to move rooms around after the first night because he was coughing all night. Upstairs stayed lovely and warm but downstairs was so cold, with all the bedrooms downstairs it wasn’t ideal. No extra linen for the beds. The fire alarm went off 4 times for no reason. Check out is 9am! Be warned of the sharp bend leading up to the property. We had a lovely Christmas, but unfortunately any effort from the owner was no where to be seen. You’re literally just staying in an empty house, so you’d need to pack and shop for all the basics before you arrive.

  • "Very comfortable, with lots of kitchen equipment, good parking facilities Initial advert listed 3 bathrooms but house had one on suite bathroom on top floor plus an additional toilet but only one bathroom on ground floor plus an additional toilet."

( Six guests used downstairs bathroom, two used on suite facilities ) When you read the list of facilities it is a little clearer but 3 bathrooms means rooms with baths. Whoever looks after the rental needs to check/replace several chipped cups and plates. Garden maintenance needs a lot of attention, the pond is completely enclosed with lilies/weed, and nothing like the advertised photo

Thank you, Roger, for your important feedback. It really helps me improve for future visitors. I am thrilled you enjoyed the house and found it clean and comfortable. I am sorry to hear you expected more bathrooms, I do believe the website description and photos are accurate. Thank you for informing me about the small number of chipped plates, which have been replaced as part of weekly inventory checks. Should this have been raised with my property manager during your visit, they would have gladly attended as a priority. As with all gardens in the height of summer, growth and flowers are in full bloom. The pond enjoys a thriving ecosystem with pondlife and lillies, during winter months this will naturally scale back as part of its annual cycle which is when it is then tended to, so it then resemble the photo on the website. An ongoing gardening regime ensures the grass lawns, weeding, and shrubbery growth are well tended to make a charming environment. The surrounding beds have been designed for wild grasses and flora, which change throughout the seasons. Property Owner

Loved the hot tub! Large lounge area with lots of comfy seating for everyone. The kitchen was well equipped and the extra fridge and extra freezer was a bonus especially for longer stays. The pool table was well used by all the family. Thanks for a great stay.

  • "We had a lovely holiday and would recommend the accommodation."

One small issue the freezer in the kitchen was completely frozen inside, we had to spend a lot of time scrapping all the ice out in order to free the drawers.

Hi Lisa, I am really happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and would recommend the accommodation. Thank you for bringing the freezer situation to my attention, I’m happy to report a new fridge freezer has since been installed. My building manager is always available during guests visits and if you had let him know he would have been happy to help out with the situation during your stay. Property Owner

  • "When I booked Shangrila, I was under the impression that there were two rooms with On-suite, so it was a surprise when the three bedrooms downstairs had to share the same bathroom it made ablutions interesting!"

! The radiator in the downstairs room with a sliding door was problematical which made the room cold more often than not, we stayed at a particularly cold snap!! I cleaned out the fridges but the deep freeze was very frozen up on arrival so may need some housekeeping. The equipment in the kitchen was of a very high standard, I used to have a similar Mange manager Gas range , we tried not to cook too much as it was a break..The views were spectacular, particularly with the Christmas lights in Bideford town ,the hot tub was wonderful overall a very comfortable house and stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the house exceptionally clean and well equipped. Upon review, we are happy that the description of the property and facilities are accurate and clear. Shortly after your arrival, you contacted us to let us know of a concern with a radiator. We quickly provided guidance which included ensuring the radiator valve was on max, to turn the thermostat to your desired temperature as the house may have reached the temperature set for your arrival, and to let us know if this didnt fix so we could attend. After we didn't hear back, the next morning, you confirmed with us that the radiator was operating normally, and you did not report any further issues for the remainder of your visit. Thank you, and we would be delighted to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely enjoyed our stay and thought how clean and tidy everything was on our arrival for us !"

The house was nicer than we had expected… Even the housekeeper was extremely helpful to us when we contacted them and answered us back straight away! Loved the position of the property as could walk into town, beaches and outlet’s centre. Great cycling and lots of restaurants and pubs near by … Only used the car to get to Westward ho ! Only thing extra would suggest is a portable drying rack to be able to hang out washing to dry as the one inside wasn’t big enough for all of us to dry towels and washing on especially as we had a young baby with us…

  • "We enjoyed our stay at your property, however, there are a few things that were really disappointing."

The first one is in the downstairs bedrooms, there is no where to hang any clothes, which meant living out of bags of clothes all week. The second was the appalling state of the washing machine drawer. This was full of mold (I will email photos separately). I had to purchase rubber gloves and washing machine cleaner to scrub this out before I could use it. This was really disappointing to find a piece of essential equipment in that state. The third is the rubbish/recycling. When we arrived the rubbish bins were already full as well as two of the recycling crates. We put out the recycling as requested, however, the rubbish wasn’t collected that week so when we left there were black rubbish bags left on top of the bins. For a commercial holiday property I wouldn’t expect the rubbish responsibility to be left to whoever is staying that week because it is not pleasant to have to deal with other peoples rubbish when you’re on holiday.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Shangri-La and appreciate your feedback which will help us improve the experience for visitors. Additional wardrobe space will be fitted in the downstairs superking bedroom. I am sorry to hear of your issue with washing machine. Should this have been raised with the housekeeper during your stay they would have gladly rectified quickly, we are pleased you found the remainder of the house clean to our very high standards. Waste and recycling collection is operated by the local authority and they set the schedule for this. We will look at alternatives for the future and containers are now outside of the property gates. Thank you and we hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely loved this house, we were 3 generations of family holidaying together and the space was fantastic."

The only suggested points for improvement would be, bathroom door locks need attention, several of us caught our fingers in the bolts, the noise level from upstairs when your downstairs can be a little loud, maybe some rugs?? Otherwise amazing space, great support and comms from agent and house, garden and hot tub were fabulous. Thank you. :-)

Just one suggestion, would be to replace the table tennis table with a Pool table but just a visitor preference.

Hi Toby, so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, and thank you for the glowing feedback! I agree a pool table would be better, I actually have one on order which should be in place by the end of March, hope you will visit again when it is in! Property Owner
