There are two stunning beaches within a few miles' radius, as well as two wonderful riverside pubs serving food, while across Newton creek is the village of Newton Ferrers, which offers a Post Office, pharmacy, grocery store and a butchers, and can be accessed on foot at low tide via causeways or you can hop on the ferry, which can also take you to Wembury.
Head east along the South West Coast Path and discover the idyllic harbour town of Salcombe, built on the steep west side of the Kingsbridge Estuary, with its picturesque North and South Sands beaches, Maritime Museum, castle of Fort Charles, the early 20th century Edwardian property Overbeck's,filled with fascinating art and history collections, and of course you can enjoy strolls around the lovely harbour or hop on a boat towards East Portlemouth, where you will find yet more glorious sandy beaches, including the National Trust's Mill Bay.
Explore the magnificent Devonshire countryside by heading into the Dartmoor National Park, which offers hundreds of kilometres of walking and cycling routes through grassland, forests, wetlands and tors, taking in sites such as the National Trust's Buckland Abbey, the 20th century medieval Castle Drogo, as well as quaint villages and historic artefacts.
