Great location. Only downside is evening/night time noise from Fore Street/the harbour but if want to be central AND have views then that's a trade-off you have to accept.

Many thanks for leaving your comments. We were sorry to read that the presentation of the property upon arrival was unsatisfactory. We have passed on these issues to the housekeeping team and would like to reiterate that this is not of standard. Please accept our apologies and we hope that your holiday in Salcombe was still enjoyable. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at this brilliantly located cottage in Salcombe, which has an unbelievable terrace with outstanding views."

I do think the owners are aware of this and haven't necessarily invested in home comforts for some years (aside from a clear, quick basement bathroom refurb). For the money paid, and charged in summer months, the property would benefit hugely from little things like headboards for the beds, new sofas with more comfortable cushions (currently rather flat), Smart TV, better knives etc. We were also only given three dishwasher tablets which felt rather stingy (we don't have a dishwasher at home so didn't feel inclined to buy some). We had also recently arrived from a similarly priced cottage at which we were greeted with a cream tea and flowers so may have felt slightly flat for us on arrival. That said, it's a cottage that will have no problem selling out given the fab location and view, and comfort levels were fine but could be improved at relatively little cost.

Sykes cottages were very helpful even rang on the day of arrival to inform me where eys would be. Our accommodation was ideal for us right in the middle of everything but with a lovely peaceful terrace which was a nice sunny spot. We didnt want to leave. I would recommend booking places to eat as size of places reduced with covid restrictions.

  • "Very comfortable, well-equipped cottage in a great location."

Lots of great books. The cottage had everything we needed, including when we had to cook for two nights due to the restaurants and bars closing for the second Covid lockdown. We liked the cleaning pack with washing tablets and sponge that was provided. Useful parking space behind locked gates. The balcony overlooking the estuary was very pleasant indeed. The only problem I can comment on is the damp patch in the lower bathroom that needs attention. There were only two of us, so it was not a problem for our holiday as we inhabited the ground and first floors. However, anyone staying in the lower bedroom would have had to live with a damp smell.

  • "Salcombe is a great location suitable for exploring the local beauty spots including East Portlemouth (great walk up to Gara Rock via a coastal walk) and Salcombe paddleboard hire are friendly, flexible and very accommodating), Burgh Island, Sore Mill Cove, Hope Cove (11mile return walk on the coast path) , Kingsbridge, South Sands, South Milton Sands (Beach House Café is a must for breakfast) The Cottage is in an excellent location in the heart of Salcombe."

2 bedrooms and the living area has fantastic unspoilt views over the harbour with fantastic sunrises to be seen on the clear days I have seen reviews about restricted parking, this could not be further from the truth. it is both secure (Key fob and behind locked gates) and more than big enough for my Landrover Defender. The cottage was left clean and equipped with all you need to self cater for a large family. Yes, there is some damp issues in the lower ground floor bathroom but expected from a property of this age and situation. considering there is a separate toilet on the ground floor and a en-suite shower on the first floor i do not see this as a big issue. the separate laundry room was very handy! Would defiantly go back again.

  • "Lovely cottage, great location."

Mattress and pillows on both double beds very uncomfortable. Bit lumpy. Bunk bed mattress and pillows are fine. Very well equipped compact kitchen. Lovely view. Drain in utility room will overflow with soapy water and soaks into mats on floor at times. Parking very handy, but instructions on how to access would be useful. Last stayed here about 20 years ago, and not sure why it's taken us so long to stay again. Hope to return soon! (But please change mattresses.)

However a couple of things could improve the experience. I found the thermostat difficult to use with flashing numbers and incomprehensible messages like SET appearing...it was a lottery...a simple instruction sheet in the folder would have helped. A blanket in the downstairs bedroom would be useful as the duvet is very thin. The toaster didn’t work in that I couldn’t get the toast to stay down and it popped up immediately! Very, very minor issues, but they may help you and future customers.

In case it's not clear on the website, there's a bedroom on the lower ground floor with a bathroom. Lounge / dining on the first (street level) floor with cloaks, and bunk room and double bedroom on the first floor with another bathroom. Super property with a big balcony and a secure parking space.

  • "Great location in the centre of Salcombe with marvellous views of the harbour."

However the property should not be listed as 3 bedrooms as the bedroom and bathroom in the basement is damp and smelly and not really usable. The living space is very cramped and not comfortable for more than 4 persons. The outside of the terraced house is very rundown. The car parking space is very difficult to get in and out of with anything bigger than a mini.

The only negative is the basement bedroom and bathroom felt rather damp which was fine because there were only 2 of us with one child and therefore we all slept upstairs, but I wouldn't liked to have slept in the basement for two weeks. But overall a wonderful property.
