  • "We had a lovely week at Lee Shore."

Parking permit was a bonus , but be aware the car park isn’t near the property when either carrying luggage or attempting to drive through the narrow town and drop off luggage . Overall , we loved our stay . Especially the location . Lovely views from the upstairs living area and lovely smells from the bake house in the bedroom in the morning . A nice walk through the town to the north and south beach . You can walk into any of the hotels for food or drinks . We tried all the pubs out for eating and the service and food was good at all of them . We recommend a visit to the crab shack looking over the estuary, near the car park , food is amazing ( will need to book ) . Our only negatives were the sofa was very hard, so sat on the comfy lounger chairs but these are very stained . A tear in the curtains (that we reported) . The stairs could be an issue for some . Previous comments about the mattress and sheets must have been sorted at it was a memory foam mattress and clean bedding . Overall this was a very comfortable place to holiday in the heart of Salcombe , very good value for money .

  • "I’ve stayed here many times."

A lovely family cottage despite its very steep staircase. Delighted the front window in the bedroom can now be opened. Also, relieved that a fan was provided for the very hot weather. The bakery opposite can be quite noisy early each morning, but I sleep in the back bedroom which is quieter. I minor quibble: I keep hitting my head on the ceiling when using the toilet which is under the slope of the stairs. Maybe a ‘mind your head’ sign would be helpful. Already booked for the same time next year!

  • "This is our second time at Lee Shore having stayed last year for the first time in Salcombe."

I am disappointed that our feedback from last year, and by reading some of the other reviews, the feedback of other guests, hasn’t been taken on board. The reason we returned was the size of the property and it’s excellent location; we are a couple so don’t need a large property, it’s a 30 second walk to the waterfront to launch our kayak and with the expectation our feedback had been listened to so our stay would be more comfortable than last year. I wholly agree with another review that the extremely steep, precarious and small staircase to access the living area is not mentioned, not an issue for us but could be for others with less mobility, plus there are numerous steps to ascend to even reach the property, THIS SHOULD BE CLEARLY MENTIONED AND PHOTOGRAPHED. We fed back last year that the bed was absolutely awful, very uncomfortable, the mattress is indented on both sides and the sheets on the bed were ill-fitting and well worn and need replacing - EXACTLY THE SAME MATTRESS AND SHEETS THIS YEAR. We even flipped it over to see if this would help but alas no. My partner in despair on night three from lack of sleep, went to spend the night in the single room, alas, he reported that the single bed was much the same if not worse and could feel the springs in his back. The futon sofa is still in place, despite feeding back that it also needs replacing with something much more comfortable as you cannot relax on it and seems pointless. The kitchen equipment could all do with checking through and replacing as needed, as a lot of the items are well used at best and have seen better days, the oven trays and cooking paraphernalia need a good scrub if not binned and replaced with new. We bring our FireStick to plug into the TV so we have access to Netflix etc in the evening as the channel content is very poor, which I would recommend others to do. Overall, Lee Shore is OK if you don’t have high expectations and don’t sleep much. It is very tired and needs a complete overhaul of contents, a thorough deep clean, repair of cracks and fresh paint throughout. It is a shame as the location and stunning views from the living area make this property a real winner. We have no issues with Coast and Country as a service, however, due to the above, we shall not be returning to Lee Shore and would advise others to read all the reviews carefully to make an informed choice when considering booking this property. The expectation now is that the property owners take notice of the reviews and rectify the issues before the 2024 season begins, if so, we would gladly return.

  • "We have used Coast & Country on a number of occasions now and to be honest have never had a single complaint."

Unfortunately Lee Shore has let us down this year. We found the property very tired and in need of some TLC. All I could mention has been said in previous reviews but clearly nobody is listening. The mattress, the sofa are appalling, please change them. The fact that you don’t mention the very steep staircase in the property is just wrong. The most disappointing thing for me is that when my partner returned the keys on leaving day. She was asked about Lee Shore. She replied and said the property was in a perfect location but felt it was a little tired. The reply she received was, ‘well you get what you pay for’. Very poor!

  • "Property not on Fore street."

Street map is needed. Luggage has to be dragged from car park through streets, down very steep steps and up more to enter Lee Shore. Inside rope handrail on steep wooden stairs to upper room dangerous. Shower low water pressure and drain blocked with hair, likewise in cloakroom. Single bed wooden bunk bed in cramped tiny room. Estuary views over rooftops. Property not ‘Fabulous’ as stated. Unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. Totally misrepresented and very disappointing left two days early .

  • "Found it very difficult to find actual entrance to property as entrance not on Fore Street as stated, would have appreciated a directional map."

Far too many stairs for older people with luggage to entrance from Buckley street and steep stairs within property. Just a few more snags otherwise all was very good. Limited TV viewing, not even BBC for first couple of days, no video recorder (TV needed when its bad weather) Found the sofa very hard and uncomfortable, but chairs were fine. Extraction fan in loo very noisy. Besides these niggling things we enjoyed our stay in Salcombe and Lee Shore. Thank you

  • "Overall, we had a fabulous break."

Absolutely perfect location in the town centre (and the bakery across the road!) as we only had a 30 second walk to the waterfront to launch our kayak. The views from the living area towards the estuary are beautiful. Only whinges are; my partner found the bed uncomfortable, perhaps invest in a new mattress? And the fitted sheets were very loose, meaning waking up with the sheets all baggy and coming away from the mattress, which I know is picky, but leaving feedback. Also, that there was nowhere ‘comfortable’ to relax; futon type sofa which was very hard. A soft, comfortable sofa would be ideal (the individual Scandi-type chairs were very comfortable though)

Also pleased to see a new sash window in the main bedroom. Unfortunately, neither this nor the one in the small bedroom could be opened, which made the rooms rather airless. Otherwise, an ideal location. Looking forward to returning next year.

  • "We are currently on holiday, staying at Lee Shore which will be our 4th/5th stay, but the first time leaving a review."

We love it here, it’s our happy place and oozes relaxing vibes. It’s the perfect mix of well equipped compact living, there’s plenty of storage and it doesn’t feel cramped (for 2+ a little one). It’s a quintessential sea side cottage (apartment) with rustic floorboards and lovely sash windows which frame the views perfectly. We stayed elsewhere for our trips when our little boy was crawling / toddling as the stairs are steep and very open but our little boy is 3 now and is sensible enough to avoid them. In our opinion Lee Shore can’t be beat for its location - right in the centre of things, lots of atmosphere from the street below and smells wafting up from the bakery opposite. In terms of noise, which has been mentioned in the previous comments - it is next to the fortescue pub and the bakery. We have yet to stay during the school holidays (which I hear are very busy), but during our stays there is chatter from the pub until midnight-ish but this doesn’t cause much disturbance. The bakery now has evening deliveries which is much better than the 2am ones previously. The master bedroom window has had its draft / acoustic seals replaced recently and they are very effective in deadening the noise. Many thanks to the owners for another lovely stay, and if they ever wish to sell we would bite their hand off - haha… Emma, Peter and Charles x

The parking is a good five minutes away but I would imagine most holiday makers and residents park in the carpark. The cottage when we found it, it was a bit busy that afternoon is situated in the middle of Salcome ideal for shops and pubs as well as takeaways, it was clean when we arrived and pretty much as the photographs had shown. We had a good week around South Devon and would return to the area.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We have never used this system before and managed to park in wrong car park and received two parking tickets. Needs explaining that the permit does not guarantee a space in the car park but only pays for your stay if you can find one. Accommodation was fine apart from finding it.

We were sorry to hear that you had issues using the parking permit issued to you during your stay at Lee Shore. The list of car parks that the permit is valid in are printed on the laminate issued to you, and unfortunately having a permit does not guarantee a space. • "We found the accommodation ideally placed for all the restaurants, pubs & shops, with a bakery directly behind the accommodation in a busy side street, this could be a little noisy from 5am but didn’t spoil our stay."

Our biggest gripe was the lack of parking, we noted the permit mentioned, but thought it would be near the accommodation, instead we found it was for a public car park some distance away with NO guarantee of a space! This made getting our weeks bags of clothes etc very difficult, having to make a couple of journeys each time, this will NOT suit anyone with walking or similar health issues or possibly small children, and infact once you’ve given up your space for a day out perhaps, you will be very lucky, certainly in high season, to get another on your return unless it’s later in the evening! Yes the permit let’s you park in other areas of the coast, but not in Salcombe, we made a mistake of using it one afternoon in a second car park because the main one was full, this cost me a £50 parking fine, ok my fault for not reading small print, this only allows for free WINTER parking. Unfortunately this was enough to put us off visiting this accommodation again, and I think this situation should be CLEARLY explained by Sykes Cottages in the ad for the accommodation for the benefit off everyone..
