  • "Poll Cottage is in an ideal position, you couldn’t really be more central in Salcombe."

Some of the reviews regarding cleanliness concerned us but I’m happy to say it was absolutely fine. The cottage has three good size bedrooms and the front living room is a nice airy feeling room, good size with nice sofas etc. It does need a bit of paint in certain places but this didn’t spoil our stay. Our only negative and it’s not a deal breaker is that the kitchen is a little dark as it’s only got the doors to the small courtyard to allow natural light in. It is however very well equipped. No cheap IKEA throw away stuff here. Mostly John Lewis I would have said. The courtyard furniture does need an upgrade but again, not a big deal. All in all a lovely stay and would book again.

  • "We love Salcombe so Poll Cottage was perfectly placed for us to explore and go back to places we have previously liked."

Great for a teenager too, who needed some independence and could go for a walk in a safe and friendly area. The only very slight issue was that someone from another house put their recycling box on our doorstep and left it so we didn't want you to think we just left our recycling. We would definitely come again and recommend the cottage!

  • "Lovely cottage in a fabulous location."

The only criticism would be the cleaning needs to be improved- the crockery and cutlery had dried food on, and 2 roasting dishes had fat and food still on, chewing gum left on a bedroom windowsill and a full ashtray left on the yard table- not good enough!

  • "Poll Cottage was booked at short notice after our original choice was cancelled due to a burst pipe in the property."

Coast and Country were not helpful in helping us to find an alternative and have since cancelled yet another holiday in October; same block of apartments which were still marketed as being fit for purpose. Poll Cottage has lots of charm and it’s location is ideally situated. The welcome pack was a welcome surprise; and so it should when we paid £3819. The beds are comfortable, perfect for well deserved rest and relaxation; sadly the builders working on a property on Robinsons Row had different ideas. You will not need an alarm clock when staying here this summer! Unnecessary banging and using Stihl saws at 7am… which remarkably stopped at 8:30hrs. We found the sofas comfortable but in need of a good clean. The outdoor space needs some attention too given the rental price. We left the property in a clean and tidy fashion; stripping the beds and, as requested we left the mattress and pillow protectors on. An odd request given the current climate and even more disturbing when I found them to be stained from previous visitors!!! This is not acceptable and your policy needs to be redressed. Salcombe never, ever fails to provide us with a wonderful holiday and magic memories. Sadly Coast and Country haven’t been on point this year.

  • "This is our second stay in this house, we love Poll Cottage."

It’s really comfortable, well equipped and looked after. It’s location is absolutely fantastic. It’s nice and quiet and there are snippets of a sea view. We’ll hope to return again. Our only small piece of feedback is that the mattress in the master bedroom is starting to feel a bit springy in places and may need replacing.

  • "The cottage was extremely well equipped."

This made the stay very easy to cook a meal without having to purchase cooking items. We could even make cocktails with the blender. Only negative was poor lighting in the kitchen. Under cabinet lights do not work and stronger bulbs needed in ceiling lights. Also wished the cottage had a garden. The lounge was spacious and accommodated 6 people comfortably. Cottage in a convenient position for Salcombe shops and eateries.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time in this delightful cottage which is perfectly positioned to enjoy all that Salcombe has to offer! The kitchen ceiling lights have just been changed to LEDs so the the property is more energy efficient, and we have had the maintenance team attend to the under counter lights. We hope that we can welcome you back to the area again soon! Property Owner

  • "When we were informed that we wouldn’t be able to check in to our cottage until 5pm, and would have to check out by 10am we understood because it was supposedly for a deep clean which, given the Covid-19 protocols in place, we were pleased."

However, on arrival at this cottage it was quite apparent that only a very very light and basic clean had taken place. The house just was not acceptably clean, especially given the Covid situation. To give specific detail: -Both bathrooms and the downstairs loo smelt of urine which indicated that the floors and toilets were not thoroughly cleaned -Kitchen and Hall floors not clean; within minutes our socks were filthy -We had to rewash all the dishes and mugs on arrival because they were coated in old, dried food -There were thick cobwebs throughout the property -The fridges are old and one was not cold enough so all our meat and dairy went bad overnight -The fridge and freezers were covered in dirty handprints -Our dog found a sanitary towel behind the sofa -There were no mattress protectors on the single beds or one of the doubles which doesn’t provide a satisfactory way of cleaning the beds -The master bed was so creaky that every time one of us turned over it woke us up, and our young children -The shower in the master en-suite had a light orange mould on the grouting which would have easily cleaned off, had the shower been cleaned thoroughly . I usually expect these cottages to a bit grimy, they have a high footfall and I understand there isn’t all the time in the world to clean them during high season, but given that we lost almost a day of our holiday for a deep clean, and that we were slightly nervous about going away at this time due to Covid, we were pretty annoyed by the state of what we found. On a brighter note, the cottage is in the most fantastic location and that would redeem the tired appliances and beds if only the property were clean. It is very quiet and you are minutes from everything. We would stay here again, if we had assurances it would be cleaner and the master bed had been replaced. The divan is just too noisy for any sort of comfort.

The you for taking the time to provide us with your comments following your stay at Poll Cottage. We were disappointed to read that you were unhappy with the standard of cleanliness. Unfortunately carrying out a deep clean in the changeover period is not possible, however cleaners are focusing on the sanitising of high traffic areas as per Government guidelines. The local office is always on hand to assist and we would of course have arrange for the housekeeper to return had we known you were unsatisfied. All feedback received from our customers, whether positive or otherwise, helps us to ensure that the high standards of the Agency are maintained and we have passed these comments on to the owner of the property and the housekeeper for their attention. Following your comments, the owner is purchasing a new bed base which will be installed at the earliest available opportunity, and all mattress protectors are in place. Once again we do apologise that the Poll Cottage wasn't presented satisfactorily, but were glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in Salcombe. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved the location of poll cottage and had a fantastic stay."

A lovely big Lounge area meant we could fully relax. We found the beds very comfortable and loved the modern bathrooms too. Our two daughters loved being so close to town and could easily visit the sweet shop regularly. We loved the code on the door as we never had to worry about a key. We hardly used the car as we were in such a fab location so parking did not matter for us. We would definitely return to poll cottage.

We are so pleased to hear that you had a great time at Poll Cottage and enjoyed it's convenient location in Salcombe. We look forward to seeing you again soon! Property Owner

Gave us a lovely break, hardly used the car. Perhaps a tv in the bedroom just to catch up on the Soaps! But did use Catch-up tv on iPad! Will definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends. Service from Coast and Country was excellent - very frinendly - thank you. Been coming down to Salcombe for years and have used Coast and Country several times and they were extremely helpful with this holiday as we needed a Friday booking, thank you for arranging this.

  • "Poll cottage was just as we would expect."

Clean, smart and well equipped. There were two of us (and dog) but I would happily use it with six adults in total. Situated right in the centre of Salcombe, 30 metres or so up a very steep alley, it is very convenient for shops and pubs. It was never noisy. The only drawback was parking. You are provided with a parking permit for the long stay car park for overnight parking. This is a level 15 min walk away. For unloading and loading your car, there is a short stay car park about 50 ltr from the cottage. Parking on here in high season my be an issue but was OK in April. Do I recommend it and would I go again? Yes.

The property

Poll Cottage is full of charm, well-equipped and presented throughout.

Set over two floors, the cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms, with one well-behaved dog also welcome.

The cottage retains much of its original character including its open fire and references to Salcombe’s nautical history. The cottage is accessed from Robinsons Row, a pedestrianised alley just off Fore Street, with boutiques, cafés and restaurants on the door step.

Want to visit the beach?

Good news - the East Portlemouth passenger ferry is just a two-minute walk away, and takes you to the opposite side of the town, where you can enjoy the sand between your toes.

Step into Poll Cottage directly from Robinsons Row alley.

The tiled entrance hall leads to a cloak/utility room, with a WC, sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. Continue through to a bright carpeted living room with a flat screen TV, DVD player, iPod dock CD/radio as well as ample seating - everything you need to get tucked up together for a night around the open fire. Moving through to the kitchen, there’s an electric cooker and a hob for cooking hearty meals, as well as a dining room table to sit and enjoy them at.

You can also access the small rear courtyard from here. Upstairs are three bedrooms; the master has an en-suite shower room and king size bed.

Bedroom two has a double bed, and bedroom three has two 2'6" single beds which on request can be zipped together to make a king-size bed.

There is also a family bathroom on the first floor with a bath, shower (over bath), WC and wash-hand basin.

Enjoy relaxing days around the harbour or adventure filled days sailing Salcombe’s waters in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
