  • "Out third stay at this property."

It has a great location with fab views and has everything you need for your stay. The owners have gone the extra mile to make sure it not only looks stylish but is comfortable too. The master bedroom has a super comfy large bed, (something many properties don’t manage to provide) so this is a bonus at the Penthouse. Not for those who struggle with stairs. Door entry and safe key box were both on the blink but I’m sure that’s just temporary.

Thank you for some great reviews over the past year and some really helpful feedback that we do take on board. For this season there will be new internal doors throughout, a handrail on the staircase from the first floor and there is a new handle on the external door. We have done all we can to improve the loo flushes! There is a new 65 inch smart TV in the living space and the TVs in the bedrooms have all been updated with Amazon firesticks. We continue to make improvements to ensure the Penthouse is an enjoyable, comfortable place to stay. Property Owner

  • "Difficult to add to Kathryn's spot on feedback from 2022."

Glorious apartment. With the living area situated between large front and rear balconies (with large glass patio doors either side) you get all round views of the estuary and town whether you are sitting inside or out. It is also a rare treat in Salcombe to have balconies which allow you to benefit from both the morning and afternoon sun. I would agree with Bruce (again 2022) that a handrail on the first flight of stairs within the apartment would be helpful and a year later I can confirm that the toilet in the shower room still doesn't flush very well! Point for customers to note, too - we counted 50 steps up from street level to the 2nd floor living area (which was hard going, but in our view, a price worth paying). I would stress that these are very much minor points - we enjoyed the property so much that before we left Salcombe we rebooked it for next year!

Great location, top floor so great view from balcony Everything in apartment that's needed, plenty of space inside and outside As stated in listing a couple of flights of stairs are a bit steep & 10 minute walk to public car park - however neither were an issue

  • "The apartment was fantastic and exceeded our expectations."

Very comfortable, lovely rooms, very well equipped and two wonderful large outdoor patios. Amazing views and convenient location. In our opinion the listing online doesn't do the place justice and from looking at the photos we had assumed the front patio was tiny - it isn't - it is large with a big glass table with seating for 8 and two sunloungers. The back patio is the same size with seating and an excellent barbeque. On the photos it also looked like the main bedroom was pretty small with little hanging space for clothes, but all the bedrooms are large and have plenty of room. The kitchen is very cleverly designed and has everything you could need. I came to the reviews before our visit to find answers reguardng what was provided (tried C&C but they didn't know and the lady who answered the phone didn't know Salcombe). So hopefully readers will find this helpful. Included was soap for each sink, teatowels, dishcloth, washing up liquid, hairdryers for each room, additional throws for each bed (which were made up with duvets), a starter kit of a few dishwasher tabs, and a few loo rolls. There were two coffee makers - filter and pod (standard nespresso compatible). The parking permit is for Shadycombe Road, Creek and North Sands. It's not realistically possible to park outside to unload in main season in an afternoon (just too many people walking along the pavement) but you can park just round the corner by the slipway (opposite the butchers) which is only a short walk away.. The only downside was that the road noise really carried up to the bedrooms (front and back) and it was pretty noisy when people came out of the pubs and then deliveries and road sweeping also started pretty early. However the location was also a bonus as it was just so convenient to be right in the town and worked well for a family with adult children as everyone could come and go as they pleased. It was a great base for exploring - we know the area well but rarely took the car out and instead used the ferries and foot to get about. Lovely walks to Gara Rock, Snapes Point, Bolt Head and lots of afternoons on the beach at Sunny Cove, just about catching the last ferry back across! All in all a great place to stay and we would recommend.

  • "As and when you next carry out any work at the property you might like to think of putting a handrail on the stairs from the front door up to the first landing as a couple of the guests found it difficult without one."

Also the flush on the toilet in the walk in shower room wasn't very effective and would take a few attempts to get rid of toilet paper. I don't know what the property was like before the current owners took it over but we very much liked the decoration and facilities done by whoever.

  • "Our second stay at The Penthouse."

It is well equipped with everything we needed. It is comfortable and nicely decorated. The location is right in the centre of town so handy to get to pubs and cafes. The property has great views, with two decked spaces to relax on when the sun is put.

  • "The view from the Penthouse is wonderful."

The view inside not so good. The communal hallway is awful, seriously peeling paint, dirty, looks as if not cleaned for weeks. The bed in the back bedroom, mattress well past it’s use by date, you can feel metal springs in your back. Superficial cleaning only, certainly not deep cleaned re Covid as owner states. A piece of broken glass found on front bedroom carpet. No dishwasher tablets or bottle opener Property is apparently owner managed, so Coast and Country not in charge of cleaning, maintenance etc. However, they did their best to resolve some of the issues.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled you found the view from The Penthouse wonderful. We are sorry that you encountered some issues on arrival but pleased we were able to rectify some of them. We have passed your comments onto the owner who has now replaced all the beds and mattresses in the property and has had new carpet throughout. The caretaker has also been made aware of your comments and will certainly remedy the points you have raised and ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained. We do hope you had a good holiday and enjoyed all Salcombe has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Although The Penhouse has been refurbished, it needs a thorough deep clean."

All skirting boards through the apartment had a layer of dust on them. Plug sockets were dirty and had a layer of dust on them in most rooms, particularly in the hall behind the small table. The doors are all original but don't close unless force is used. The wardrobe doors in the main bedroom do not close easily. The entrance lobby and stairs, even though a 'common area' did not make a good first impression as the floors and stairs need a good hoover. Attention to all details is important when staying in an up-market and expensive to rent apartment. Such a shame that the cleanliness lets down this fabulous apartment.

Many thanks for your feedback, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our owners and housekeepers to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained, so it is disappointing to read these comments and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Your feedback has been passed on to the housekeeper/cleaner concerned who is going to carry out a deep clean on the property with regular inspections to ensure standards of cleanliness remain high. The property has now been recarpeted throughout. We are also grateful for the comment in respect of the communal hallway and we have passed on your feedback to the owners who have informed us that there is work due to commence shortly to improve this area. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to Salcombe in the not too distant future. Property Owner
