"This is not a four star hotel room, its so much better!"
The quirky, cute beach hut with amazing views is absolutly such an unique experience! We fell in love with Shaldon and its perfect pretty cottages and lovely pubs. We stayed for four days which was just right for us. We had no problem parking our Evoke but would have been happy to park up at the Ness if we had to.
Thank you so much
We are so glad you enjoyed Shaldon and the beach hut. It’s great to hear guests experience the best of Shaldon
Best wishes

"The beach hut itself is lovely - compact and tasteful."
Great position and wonderful view. The inside is modern and clean but needs a few items refreshing - fridge door doesn't close - there is no freezer compartment - the table is very wobbly - tv needs tuning. Sadly it WAS NOT an enjoyable stay - we wanted to chill and relax - read a book just chat etc we came home early could not stand the noise any longer - the hut is next to the boat racks which children use as a climbing frame - loads of screaming yelling and inappropriate chatter from about 3.45 to 8.45 no peace at all - counted 12 children on there at one point - came inside to try to escape the noise only have kids popping there heads up over the wall peeping into the hut. Noticed other couples only ventured out onto their patio areas on late evenings - such a shame the place is beautiful - Stayed before in the other beach huts but March / Feb - much better experience.

"I enjoyed a lovely stay at Beach Hut 5, it's in a very pretty position surrounded by a fantastic local atmosphere (coffee shops, pubs, fish and chips) and excellent access to the beach and coastal path."
It was really clean and well funcitoning; great oven and shower and key lockbox for access. It is worth noting that it is particularily small and there are quirks e.g. position of the sink and toilet, that mean the space can be swallowed up quickly. Using it as a base for lots of coastal exploring, running over to the Teignmouth Promanade ParkRun and using the cute courtyard garden that has good sunlight made it a perfect stay for me.

"Beach Hut 5 is an ideal place to relax and unwind."
Right on the beach with marvellous view of Teignmouth. Walk into Teignmouth easy walk across footbridge. Restaurants in Shaldon excellent. Superb Sunday roast at The Ness. Seafood option on menu at London Inn delicious. Shaldon is a quaint village, and ideal location to explore Devon. Recommend a visit to Canonteign.

"I stayed here in Oct 24 and Oct 25 but didn't leave a review."
As i was booking to stay for the 3rd year running I looked at the reviews others had left and made me want to defend the property against any poor reviews. Every issue people had (apart from the door locks which do take some getting used to but when you get used to how they work they're fine) it's clear from the in depth photos in the holiday listing what the accommodation is and how minimal some things will be. Even the canoe storage on the beach is clearly shown next to the patio in the photos. It's not a house/apartment with separate rooms, and although totally luxurious for what it is, its a beach hut. Anyway looking forward to my third stay in a couple of months.

"This is our second year of staying at the Beach Hut."
We love the tranquility of being so close to the water, the location is excellent. We enjoyed watching the waves crashing in on Teignmouth beach from the patio whilst enjoying a meal and a glass of wine and watching the early morning bathers whilst enjoying morning coffee. We will book again.

"The beach hut No5 whilst upon first impressions was good, several days in it became uncomfortable, the bathroom was not adequate at all, whilst sitting you had to contend with slotting yourself under the sink, it was more an armrest than a sink or leave the sliding door open and have your legs poking out through the door."
The bed area was a little claustrophobic and lack of free flowing air made it really warm and stuffy, we did leave the bi fold glass doors unlatched as per the info pack left, but one of us slept on the odd shaped sofa a couple of nights. Its nice for a 4 night max stay but we booked 7 nights and left on the morning of day 5 due to being so uncomfortable. The area was nice, good pubs and drives to various places easy.

"Disappointing
I stayed in the beach hut on my own for a week."
I had been looking forward to a relaxing week, reading on the terrace but this was impossible. There is a canoe/paddle board rack right next to the beach hut terrace and this was used as a playground for climbing/games for the kids all day and all evening until about 9 pm. Kids obviously scream a lot when they are having fun, which is great for them, but not so good for relaxing. Plus they were sitting on the frames watching me which also wasn't too relaxing (nor very interesting for them I suspect). Because many parents spend the evening in the restaurant next door, the kids would eat and then head straight to this area. It should be noted, there is not a parasol.
Re the facilities. There is no storage whatsoever within the beach hut. I know someone noted a hanging space, but this is a small piece of square wood which you cannot place hangers on. It is also next door to a radiator which was leaking oil. The bathroom is so small that you cannot sit on the loo facing forwards, but sideways with your feet at the doorway, otherwise you will bash your head on the washbasin. The shower does not work properly, the pressure is very low and the water alternates from boiling to freezing repeatedly whilst you shower. In the kitchen, the fridge door does not close properly. There is no freezer compartment for freezer blocks for picnics. I couldn't work out the cooking facilities although there is an instruction manual. The patio doors were extremely difficult to close. The parking space is miniscule, and I drive a Vauxhall Corsa but was asked to park dangerously close to the wall for the neighbour's car to fit in.
Thank you for your feedback.
The beachhut is situated on the beach in a popular village and you booked in the summer holidays. The beach is very quiet and quite magical outside of school holidays. As a beachhut it does only have hanging space with hangers provided. Thank you for informing us about the radiator it has now been replaced.
I am sorry that you found the bathroom in the beachhut too small and were unable to work the patio doors or the cooker.
Parking spaces are at a premium in Shaldon and we are lucky to have one. Many of our guests have much larger cars including Land Rover Discoveries and reverse into the space adequately.
I hope you managed to enjoy some aspects of the beachhut. Should you you wish to return for a quiet break please do try us again outside school holidays.

"We struggled with the locks of the front and back door all week."
We were told no one had complained about them before. We note the June review.
We were told no one staying in the huts had complained of problems with the Wi-fi when we pointed it out as intermittent. That blasted glass shelf caused me a number of painful knocks - my taller husband largely escaped them. We suggest a drawer might be built under the sofa. We had to store our underwear, socks and other clothes in our suitcases. The beach hut was lovely and clean - thank you. The bed very comfortable. The shower good. It wasn't possible to change in the small bathroom. We closed the blinds and changed by the front door. It was lovely to sit on the patio for breakfast. Children had hours of fun on the boat store next to the patio using it as a climbing frame and den. This indeed is out of the owners control and after all they weren't doing anything wrong but the noise drove us nuts. It was heaven to return to the peace and quiet of home.
Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay.
We’re pleased to hear you found the beach hut lovely and clean, enjoyed the comfortable bed and shower, and appreciated the patio space for breakfast.

"Whilst appreciating it's a beach hut it was very poorly configured as regards to putting your clothes anywhere some coat hooks inside the door was about it a rail in the space fixed above the radiator would have been far more efficient, we found the clear glass surround on the hob extractor positively dangerous and both hit our heads on it a couple of times we felt the space by the sink and under the ladder would have been better used by having a small unit with draws for clothes."
The noise from kids playing on the boat and board rack right outside our door was extremely loud while their parents relaxed 50 yes away we had issues with both locks front and back and the TV reception was non existent with the WiFi we managed to get a few channels for a while but not continuous, we used my tablet to watch TV in the end as I've had TV,s on cruises I've never had such a poor experience they did send someone out to look at the indoor ariel which was just left hanging on our return later that day overall extremely disappointing.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
I’m sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations. The beach hut is a compact and quirky space designed to offer a unique seaside experience, and while it doesn’t have the layout of a traditional holiday property, many guests enjoy its simplicity and charm there is a clothes rail with hangers and the front door is a modern secure five lock door.secure five lock door.
That said, I do appreciate your comments.
The noise from nearby activity is unfortunately outside of our control, particularly in a communal, family-friendly setting like this one
I hope there were still parts of your stay that you enjoyed.

On saying that it was done to a high specifications and very modern oven hob and microwave we’re all touch button maybe sorting out the bin situation."
Tellingpeople where the vents are to open in the roof maybe update the information leaflet that dates back to Covid

"Could not find the replacement hob to start off with and no hot water in the kitchen."
Only in the shower had to boil the kettle to wash up. Terrace unuseable during the day as children constantly playing on the metal bars outside we advised as unsafe but did not go down well with parents. Could not relax. Did not report the hot water as only there for weekend and did not want it to consume the weekend.
Thanks so much for your feedback. I’m really sorry to hear that a few things weren’t quite right during your stay.
Apologies for the confusion with the hob and for the lack of hot water in the kitchen – that’s definitely not ideal, and I understand how frustrating that must have been, even for a short visit. We’ll be looking into that right away to make sure it doesn’t happen again and sorry you did'nt contact us.
We really do appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Hopefully, if you decide to return in the future, we can give you a much smoother stay.

"The Beach Hut number 5 was sparkling clean, warm (underfloor heating), comfortable and bedding was excellent quality, also very clean."
I especially liked the obviously freshly laundered pillow protectors. Patio outside with sun umbrella (unfortunately not needed) was a very thoughtful extra.
Unfortunately the television signal was VERY intermittent to the point of unwatchable on ITV. BBC through BBC I Player was much better. Being a lone occupant I found lack of television extremely maddening.
David, from Sykes Cottages phoned leaving a voicemail for me. I returned the call but after waiting 10 minutes for an advisor, I pressed the star button for a call back. A day later…I’m still waiting.
However, apart from the television problem, I would wholeheartedly recommend Beach Hut 5z
