As the evening draws to a close, climb up the wooden stairs to choose between two lovely double bedrooms, one with a four-poster bed and both offering scenic views over the river.

Awaken with a steaming cup of coffee, courtesy of the coffee maker and make use of the toaster and oven to whip up a home-cooked breakfast.

Take a short stroll to the sandy and shingle shores of Shaldon Beach or Teignmouth Back Beach to marvel at the calm waters of the estuary.

Grab fresh fish and chips from the Grand Pier, view quirky art at Teignmouth Arts Quarter or unravel the town's history at Teign Heritage - Teignmouth & Shaldon Museum which holds a display of a number of items originally from the Toll House, including a Toll Keeper's lamp and the original list of tolls payable.
