  • "The cottage was well maintained and clean."

The owner did not scimp on furniture, crockery etc as it was all very good quality with high tech equipment. Everything worked well and it was lovely to have hot water all the time. I will certainly recommend it and hopefully return.

  • "Beautiful cottage well situated in Shaldon."

Very nicely decorated with very modern equipment, only item missing was a BBQ. We would recommend for a week. It is very tight on space but this is to be expected with a period property.

  • "Topcliff Cottage is a lovely place to stay."

It is stylish and well maintained with a small but cleverly designed kitchen and a small private courtyard to relax in when you want to chill out. However, the parking space is pretty tricky unless you have a very small car and on street parking is not really an option. We both enjoyed the week we stayed there.

  • "Great little cottage in a beautiful village."

Supposed to sleep 4 but would have felt very cramped as rooms are small and cottagey. Perfect for 2. Everything we needed for a week away ( apart from toilet roll , only given 3/4 of a roll!) Fabulous shower comfy beds, sofas very low and not that comfortable. Lovely courtyard garden which was a suntrap. House perfectly situated opposite slipway to water, great for launching sup/ kayak. We loved shaldon, definitely the nicest bit of Torbay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. Many of our guests feel that the character of the property is enhanced by the 'cottagey' feel as described in the listing. Topcliff Cottage is a two bedroom property with the addition of the very popular 'kids den' room and as such is fully equipped for four people. We have taken a great deal of time and care to provide for our guests' needs, as we explained at the time, the toilet roll was an oversight for which we apologised. We have not received any complaints about the sofas previously, but as we're sure you are aware, comfort is an individual preference. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed other aspects of Topcliff Cottage and hope you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week at top cliff cottage."

It had all the mod cons, Uber comfortable bed loved the night light on the landings. Very tastefully decorated, and the window in the double room is beautiful with a glimpse of the sea. Didn't want to leave, felt like home from home!

  • "Topcliffe Cottage is equipped to an above average standard."

It is extremely comfortable with great beds and sofas as well as a great shower and plenty of hot water and heating. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage as a perfect place to stay. It is also very well situated being close by to pubs, shops, restaurants and the beach. Shaldon is a very pretty place having the benefit of both river and coast.

  • "Just had an excellent week's holiday at Topcliff Cottage."

The Location is perfect for taking advantage of Shaldon village; its gentle seaside atmosphere, the great swimming beach, shops, cafe and wildlife zoo. The cottage itself is decorated and fitted out to a very high spec, we especially appreciated the technology available along with the fantastic WiFi speed and reliability. Many thanks.

The property

Topcliff Cottage is a delightful, detached cottage just a short stroll from the estuary and within a level walk of the unspoilt seaside village of Shaldon, which sits at the mouth of the Teign estuary.

With many modern conveniences but still keeping hold of much of its character and charm, this property is ideal for a small family or couple keen to escape to the South Devon coast, with a public slip-way just a few yards from the front door, so you can take your paddleboards or canoe and explore the water and surrounding area easily.

Outside there is parking for a medium-sized car and a private and enclosed courtyard-style garden with raised flowerbeds and mood lighting, providing a great space for alfresco dining.

The accommodation is arranged over three floors and has been carefully renovated, preserving the character of the cottage but with a bright, modern twist and is tech enabled with features such as high-speed USB charging sockets and high speed WiFi throughout, plus an alarm system with key fob arming/disarming.

From the hallway, you will find a comfy and spacious sitting room with Smart TV, bay window and a flame-effect woodburner, which creates a welcoming space to relax in after a day exploring.

Across the hall is the contemporary, fully-fitted kitchen and cosy separate dining area with seating for four people, ideal for preparing delicious home-cooked meals and gathering together to enjoy them as a group.

Upstairs on the first floor is the light and bright twin bedroom, along with a contemporary bathroom complete with luxury roll top bath and separate walk-in shower.

Further stairs lead up to the Master double bedroom, tucked under the delightful wooden beamed ceiling and boasting a 5’ bed and a circular ‘wreckers’ window.

Also on this floor, under the eaves is a den perfect for kids of all ages with a Smart TV, Xbox One and bean bags to lounge on.

From Topcliff Cottage the village of Shaldon is only a short stroll away with several cafes, welcoming pubs and restaurants, along with shops and boutiques; the village has much to offer whatever the season.

Tucked behind the Ness Headland, where the estuary meets the sea, you’ll find Shaldon’s very own zoo and a smuggler's tunnel, which leads down to a secret beach.

The pedestrian ferry leaves from Shaldon and runs throughout the day and early evening, so you can enjoy venturing over to the bustling regency seaside town and port of Teignmouth, which also offers a mainline railway station.

Further afield, the delights of Torbay are within easy reach or if you fancy heading for the hills, Dartmoor National Park is around a half an hour's drive, as is the fascinating city of Exeter.
