“This was our 7th holiday with HH and our 3rd visit to this barn.”

This visit was a gift to my wife who asked to go back again for her birthday. This says alot about this barn and location, which is perfect for the local pub and exploring the devon coutryside plus coast line. The owners live next to the barn and are available if you have any questions or problems. I am sure this wont be our last visit to this barn, which is kitted out fully for a great self catering family holiday.

The property

This cottage converted from a split level barn is situated, together with a farmhouse, down a private track on the edge of Sampford Courtenay.

Beautifully designed with modern style, it is wonderful rural idyll for friends or family.

Steps take you up into your open plan living space, all relaxing with calm colours, with a comfy seating area with wood burning stove at one end and a kitchen area with dining space at the other.

On the ground floor you have a handy double bedroom with its en suite, or head on down the stairs to two more bedrooms.

Outside you can soak up the sun on the lawn amid pretty garden terraces or eat on the quiet terrace which looks over the fields and village.

This is one of the loveliest villages in Devon, where you can while away the hours in the popular village inn.

Maybe fish for your catch of the day in a local river, or head to the open slopes of Dartmoor for great walking.

The bustling town of Okehampton has all you need in the shape of shops, restaurants and a cinema and leisure centre.

Centrally located for exploring Devon, Yondhill Barn is a peaceful base in lovely countryside.

About the location

Okehampton 2.5 miles.

Midway between Sampford Courtenay, a sleepy but picturesque Devon village, and Okehampton, a thriving community known as ‘the gateway to the moor’. The whole area is a country lover’s dream. The high tors of northern Dartmoor dominate the scenery and provide a splendid backdrop to Okehampton nestling in a valley where tumbling moorland rivers join before heading to the sea. For miles around, the area is famous for its country pubs that between them provide welcome rest after a day exploring the paths, cycle ways and stunning countryside. On a clear day the view from the top of High Willhays (the highest point south of the Pennines) will take your breath away. Country pursuits and crafts are a way of life and a trip to the Dartmoor Visitor Centre and country museum in Okehampton are musts. Look also at the pretty moorland villages of Chagford, Belstone and Sticklepath to savour a way of life that’s becoming increasingly rare.
