  • "Yondhill Barn is a very comfortable barn conversion in a lovely and peaceful setting."

The local pub is literally a 2 minute walk down the drive! We were blessed with glorious October sunshine and did a number of cycles on quiet roads and the Granite Way from the house. As in most parts of Devon, there were a number of great walks locally too. With a chance to catch up with family, all in all it was one of the best UK holidays we’ve ever had.

This visit was a gift to my wife who asked to go back again for her birthday. This says alot about this barn and location, which is perfect for the local pub and exploring the devon coutryside plus coast line. The owners live next to the barn and are available if you have any questions or problems. I am sure this wont be our last visit to this barn, which is kitted out fully for a great self catering family holiday.

It has good facilities including great showers. Location is good for getting out and about . I would recommend some form of signage on the little lane that leads to the barn as it was difficult to find first time. The owner is very welcoming and helpful and was very quick to arrange repair of the TV which had no reception due to an issue with the outside cables. We had a lovely week and would highly recommend this barn for anyone looking for a place in the area

  • "This was our second visit to yondhill barn."

The first time was two years ago when the new owners Adrian and Darrell took ownership. I can honestly say this experience was just has good. The barn was super clean with nothing out of place. The kitchen is fully equipped for a good size family or group of friends. Two of the bedrooms had double beds with the family bedroom now having a double bed plus two single beds. We found all the beds very comfortable and the sheets clean and fresh. All the bathrooms very clean and modern with very good water pressure for the showers. During our stay we didnot light the log burner, due to the barn being very warm with just the heating on,which was nice. The barn is 5 to 10 minute walk from the new inn pub that served good pub food. (Tip if you want Sunday lunch you would be advised to book in advance) This barn does not have a wet/dog room. Our dog one day got really muddy so we washed her outside in the rain with a bucket then dried her with a hair dryer. It was worth doing, so that the barn does not get marked or damaged which is a good thing. The barn does have a DVD player but is not blue ray, so don't do like we did and bring blue ray and then find they don't work ha ha. Over all this is a great place to stay with great and warm owners. I would recommend this place to anyone and I am sure we will be back for our third visit very soon.

  • "We found the stairs going down to the bedrooms were on the slippery side as our daughter did fall down them, I think they could do some grip on them."

This is no detriment to the cottage but we feel you needed to know this.

Has everything you could need. Kitchen is well stocked with everything to enable you to cook meals and if cookings not on the menu the local pub does fantastic food and has regular offers! Central to everything Devon has to offer, not too far from any beach or countryside walk. Barn itself was so spacious and beautifully decorated we felt we could stay in and relax most days. The BBQ was a good addition to use one hot evening and my 4 year old loved the open space and garden. Would definitely stay again no hesitation!!!

Booking a holiday with Sykes is not as easy as booking a holiday with Helpful Holidays. I preferred the £100 refundable breakage deposit to having to take out insurance with Sykes and hoping that the insurance company will cover any breakages.

The owners were unobtrusive but on hand if necessary. The property is very warm and really well equipped. It was very easy to find with only a little bit of country driving. Although we did not get mobile phone reception unless outside the property, the Wi-Fi was very useful. The property has very comfortable beds and fantastic showers. It is in a very central location to explore all of Devon and there is so much to see.

About the location

Okehampton 2.5 miles.

Midway between Sampford Courtenay, a sleepy but picturesque Devon village, and Okehampton, a thriving community known as ‘the gateway to the moor’. The whole area is a country lover’s dream. The high tors of northern Dartmoor dominate the scenery and provide a splendid backdrop to Okehampton nestling in a valley where tumbling moorland rivers join before heading to the sea. For miles around, the area is famous for its country pubs that between them provide welcome rest after a day exploring the paths, cycle ways and stunning countryside. On a clear day the view from the top of High Willhays (the highest point south of the Pennines) will take your breath away. Country pursuits and crafts are a way of life and a trip to the Dartmoor Visitor Centre and country museum in Okehampton are musts. Look also at the pretty moorland villages of Chagford, Belstone and Sticklepath to savour a way of life that’s becoming increasingly rare.
