  • "What can I say This cottage was full of character it has everything you could need , we absolutely loved it ."

The owner was lovely and friendly and not at all intrusive . The farm dogs were very friendly . I would definitely recommend this property it was beautiful. The only warning I would give is that the ceilings are low and the doorways lower which adds to the character but tall people should be aware of this as the 4 of us are vertically challenged and 3 out of 4 banged there head on the first day . Beautiful cottage Beautiful scenery , lovely and cosy Fantastic time had by all

  • "The house is lovely."

The owner was very kind and helpful. It was a little more remote than we thought but in a lovely area. Unfortunately the Pub in the village was fully booked all weekend, but that was probably because it was Fathers day on the Sunday. The roads all around are quite narrow. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. My husband is 6ft tall and had to watch his head in places. There are 3 lovely dogs to meet. There are also goats and sheep. If you want to be at the centre of the action it's probably not the place for you. But if not, it's a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting. I'd certainly go back.

  • "The Long House is a delightful cottage in the countryside."

It is very comfortable, clean and very well equipped for every need. The hosts, Paul and Jo, are a very welcoming and friendly couple and their dogs just love a cuddle. The village is only a 15 minute walk away where there is a good but small village store and a pub serving lovely food. Highly recommended.

  • "A great break!"

A fab property and location. A very peaceful out of the way working farm and great if you do want the peace and quiet. Paul the host even took the kids to feed the animals one morning which they loved and you are free to roam the farm for walks and great photo ops. It is good 20 mins drive to amenities, groceries, cash point, shops, pharmacy etc. Which didn’t bother us. However there is a pub nearby. The property was kitted out very well with us not needing for any kitchen equipment. Hairdryer was available but not listed, just in case you wondered. An old property which has been decorated with a modern touch. Very clean with comfy beds and surprisingly warm with central heating throughout and not forgetting the inglenook fireplace. Games room is a bonus and provided hours of entertainment for the whole family. We will definately return to this property!

The farm was fun and interesting but did not intrude on the holiday at all. The Long House was a lovely well maintained cottage, that was quirky, interesting and snug and homely. Covid precautions were well established and maintained. Although seems to be in the middle of nowhere there was plenty to do and see within easy driving distance.

  • "Fantastic location, and everything we could want or need at the house."

A real home from home. Wonderful scenery surrounding a traditional longhouse. These places are full of quirky features so visitors must expect low doorways and sloping ceilings but this is what we wanted and the Longhouse delivered. Based on a farm so lots of animals, goats, sheep and dogs which our family absolutely loved. Would love to come back again in the future.

The owner made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of helpful tips. The three farm dogs here are so lovely-our youngest came being afraid of dogs and came home wanting one! The Long House itself is full of charm and feels very cosy and warm inside. We can't wait to return.

A typical Devon Long house so be prepared for windy stairs and some low doorways. however this is a pleasant place to stay on a working farm in lovely countryside. the nearby village has a nice pub with good food and a friendly welcome.

Great for exploring North Devon and Dartmoor. RHS Rosemoor was a fabulous day out. The owners of the cottage were super helpful and made us feel very much at home. Just remember that it is a lovely old cottage that was built when people were not routinely 6 feet tall. We had a few bumped heads to begin with. Unusually, the master bedroom had a very comfortable bed - not always the case. I can't vouch for the other beds. The food at the Half Moon Inn in Sheepwash and Black River Inn in Black Torrington was excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

  • "On a personal note I would like to see a mention of "unsuitable for those with limited mobility"."

Beautiful house but husband tripped on 2nd evening on one of the several internal steps. Bruised and battered but luckily it was onto the carpeted lounge, had it been into the kitchen it might have been a 999 call. House is also slightly raised from parking area so support was needed getting in and out. Very centrally situated so we visited Cornwall as well as Devon. I have already recommended it to family and friends without mobility problems.

The snooker table was great fun, as were the board games which we made good use of on an evening. The house is in in a great location for exploring around Devon and into Cornwall. The owner was helpful and polite and on hand if needed but never intrusive. The dogs were so friendly and a huge hit with the kids, they were very sad to leave them on the last day. Highly recommend.

  • "A beautiful, well equipped cottage that exceeded our expectations, set on the owners small holding."

As a family with a child and elderly mother the setting was both relaxing and exciting. My son visited the recently born baby goats at least three times a day and adored the owners three dogs. The owner Paul was so welcoming and gave us lots of local information. Probably the nicest cottage we've ever stayed in, lots of mod cons but retaining its olde world charm. The mini snooker table was also a godsend in the evenings. Would definitely recommend and hope to revisit one day.

Seldom do you book somewhere and it beats all expectations. The cottage was very well equipped and the owners were on hand if you needed anything. 3 very friendly dogs with a very warm welcome too. We loved feeding the goats in the morning. A walk to the local pub was approximately 12 mins (slight incline) coming home was all down hill which made it easier! Perfect location for Instow (John's cafe is a must visit) and Bude. Love booking our holidays through Sykes we have never been disappointed. Great memories made again.

  • "We arrived on 21/09/2018 to be met by 3 really friendly dogs a little early but having had a nice introductory chat with Paul we decided to go to the Half Moon Inn until our cottage was ready for us."

When we came back Paul welcomed us and showed us around what can only be described as a beautiful, quirky very expansive cottage. The cottage was large enough to sleep 6 comfortably and had plenty of games and snooker table for use. Paul also said that we could feed the animals they had if we liked which is also a good idea. The surrounding area is very peaceful and quiet and on a couple of occasions we went for walks dodging the odd tractor and they are from the next farm. There is no better therapy if you need a relaxing holiday to visit "The Long House" where you will made most welcome by Paul and Jo and make sure you purchase the sausages and chops they sell as they are amazing. All in all we have had a fantastic holiday and have already informed Paul and Jo that we will most certainly be back. Many Thanks again and we will see you soon.

When we arrived my 10 year old granddaughter was very nervous around dogs when we left she had made 3 friends of Tom Stumpy and Murray who greeted us every morning and when we returned each day. We were also shown the goats chickens and pigs. The cottage is spacious but beware the low doorways. The children enjoyed the snooker table. Although Shèepwash is a small village many great places are within easy reach with a car. The eggs and lamb straight from the farm were delicious. The weather was mixed but it didn't detract from the charm of this and surrounding areas.

The only suggestion we would make is to put a sign on the upstairs door to say 'MIND YOUR HEAD'. One of the doorways is extremely low. However, bumps aside, the house itself is far better than it looks in the pictures and very comfortable and homely. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and nothing was too much trouble. The facilites were second to none. Thank you.

This welcoming thatched farmhouse is one of two holiday cottages situated on a 25 acre smallholding in rural Devon, just over half a mile from the pretty village of Sheepwash situated in the Torridge Valley, which is renowned for its fishing, walking and cycling.

The original Grade II listed thatched farmhouse dates back to the 1600s and provides a cosy warm family holiday cottage alongside the owners’ home and their friendly sheep, goats and llamas.

There is a superb sitting room with original wooden beams and inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove, ideal for a toasty warm evening after a walk in the country lanes.

The spacious kitchen/diner is a really sociable space for the family to cook local farm produce, eat together, and chat about the day’s activities.

The snooker room features antique benches so that the family can gather together after supper before slouching in front of the fire.

Upstairs there are three comfortable and beautifully dressed bedrooms, two double and one twin.

Outside there is a private garden with seating, a lovely and relaxing place to unwind and listen to the plentiful birdsong and animal sounds from the farm.

A wonderful bonus to staying at this delightful cottage is that there is a private grass airstrip, so if you have use of a helicopter or small plane, then why not fly here and leave your car at home?

Flying in Devon and Cornwall is a sheer delight with the magnificent, rolling coastal farmland and moorland scenery being largely untouched, and with a variety of small airfields, private farm strips and of course, the beautiful Scilly Isles, you have all the ingredients for a superb flying holiday.

Sheepwash village is less than a mile away and offers a good pub, a shop and friendly locals.

The stunning River Torridge runs close by and provides a quiet spot along its banks for some trout fishing or a riverside walk to the village.

The historic market town of Great Torrington and the larger towns of Bideford and Barnstaple are easily reached, while the spectacular North Devon beaches are only short drives away, offering surfing, miles of golden sand and fun-filled sunny days.
