Everything you could want and superb location only 3 minutes away from the beach and pub , the chalet was perfect and so peaceful would highly recommend but I would take some food as the local store is quite small, overall a brilliant place for adults and kids

  • "It was a lovely, clean, well equipped property."

It would have been perfect if there had been even a small enclosed area for the dog. It wasn’t only open to the fields but also to the road and it made our stay quite difficult in this aspect. My dog is only 6 months and so I could not reliably let her out without her being on a lead. Otherwise a lovely place

  • "Excellent cottage and excellent location!"

The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable for the duration of the stay. The owner was available on mobile and responded quickly. It’s less than 10 mins walk to the beach and the pub. There’s a pub, a small shop, a bar that does pizza and a lobster restaurant all on the sea front. Amazing swimming on Hope Cove as it’s well protected and calm waters. Amazing location for exploring South Devon on foot on the coastal path or by car. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We loved our time at Brook Cottages, a revisit after 25 years and some lovely homely improvements."

The bed was very comfy and the kitchen had everything you could want, we even cooked a roast on a rainy afternoon and had a go at a very tricky puzzle we found….. The weather was very kind to us so we could enjoy the beaches and walks, definitely recommend booking a pod at the Lobster Bistro, lovely food and beautiful views. The booking process and access to the cottage were both very efficient and easy, we will definitely be back! Thank you Sykes Cottages and Alison, lovely to meet you briefly

  • "Really lovely location."

Some super improvements since we last stayed at the cottage (dishwasher, new mattresses, improvements in bathroom). Lots to do in Hope Cove and surrounding area. We had a really great holiday. Only negative- Felt cottage might benefit from a ‘spring clean’. Very dusty under beds and sofa. Found quite a few old bits from past stays (socks, birthday card, sweet wrappers).

  • "No. 2 Brook Cottages is comfortable, fresh and well fitted out."

It is ideally situated to the Hope Cove beaches and sou-west coast path. The Lobster Pod (book in advance) and Beachouse at South Milton Sands were great places to eat. Easy walk to South Milton along the coast path. We visited Overbecks Garden, Salcombe and enjoyed a walk to Soar Mill Cove. Slapton Leys Nature Reserve was good for a different day out.

  • "Comfortable, very well equipped cottage set in lovely grounds, plenty of room for the kids to play."

The main double bedroom feels a little small and has a sliding doorway through to the bunk bed room, but the bed was comfortable. The quilts are very thin but the electric wall mounted heaters are adjustable. No bath, but a baby bath and high chair are in the cottage (no need to request these). The sink tap has scolding water instantly so be careful. We went off high season and all the other cottages were empty so it was very quiet and great value for money.. I have stayed in many holiday cottages and this is one of the better ones. There are 2 sets of steps down from the car park, but you could also get to the cottage via the sloping lawns (the complex owner drives his sit on lawn mower down and through the hole in the hedge to access the lawns). There is 1 dedicated parking space per cottage, however the car park adjoins a lawn with no kerb which enabled me to park my boat easily, with the owners permission, if you have 2 cars there is street parking relatively close. Hope Cove has 2 beaches, 1 (the biggest) allows dogs on leads all year round, though we saw many off the lead, the other beach seasonally doesn't allow dogs. Boats can be launched at either end of the larger beach, 1 has a slipway down to hard sand which can be used even though it is for the life boat), £6 per launch & recovery or £35 for the week, the harbour master at the hut will allow you to leave boats at his end of the beach for a fee, but you would have to man handle it across dry sand as I believe cars are not allowed on the beach. Alternative beach launching at South Sands in Salcombe (very limited, if any parking), or pay to launch and park at Salcombe's main slipway. Alternatively there are excellent free public slipways at Mount Batten centre in Plymouth where you can park for free on the street or the car park a short walk away (not the Mount Batten car park)

  • "The listing did not mention the number of steps at the property which was for my wife rather difficult as she has severe knee problems."

The second day in I decided to sweep the floor, in doing so brushed up quite a large amount of dust which really surprised me as it had looked fairly clean. The place could not be described as a cottage, more like a mid-terraced house, and like a caravan without it's wheels. Small, and badly positioned television, but the rest of the accommodation facilities were very good. Local pub was walkable which was good. ***Owners response***Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are sorry that you did not realise from the property description that there are steps from the car park to the front door, we will update the property description to further highlight this. We would like to thank you for highlighting that the facilities were very good as we make an effort to maintain a high standard. We are also pleased that you noted the excellent location of the property walking distance to the local facilities (and sea) which is one of the property's key features. There is a sloped path and six steps from the car park to the cottage and that the property is not suitable for those with mobility issues. We sincerely wish that for your next holiday you find a property with access more appropriate to your requirements but hope that you enjoyed your holiday in the beautiful Hope Cove.

  • "We all had a fantastic time."

Having 3 cottages in a row really worked for us as we had age ranges from 2 to 70 so having our own space was fab. really near the beach, great pub and restaurants with good selection of food. Lifeguard on duty so didn't have to worry too much about the teenagers getting washed out to sea although they didn't take heed of the notice of hidden rocks and consequently got a cut toe but the pretty lifeguard came and put a plaster on the 16 year old and all was well......

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
