  • "We had the most beautiful stay at Treetops, a wonderful and peaceful escape from our usual busy lives."

The setting is stunning and situated right on the South Coast Path so there are wonderful walks in every direction. The cabin is comfortable and cosy and the prosecco, coffee, milk on arrival is a very nice touch. It does state "limited wifi" but it was pretty non existent which was absolutely fine with us and quite a nice detox from "electonics". Also we only really managed to get BBC on the TV and even that was hit and miss with reception but there is a good choice of dvds and books provided. We will 100% be going back!!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay so much, It's such a wonderful place to escape to and you can really unwind in these settings. We hope to welcome you back again very soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "It was drizzly and blustery for much of the weekend, not unexpected for February, but my husband and I had a wonderful stay."

Treetops is lovely, comfortable, cosy and clean. The place is very relaxing and we really enjoyed watching the birds on the bird feeder; there were blue tits, great tits, robins and a great spotted woodpecker, amongst others. There was even a buzzard that regularly perched on a tree nearby. The location is fantastic with walks straight from the door. We walked East through Valley of Rocks to Lynmouth and Lynton and had an excellent lunch at The Rising Sun. Walking West took us to Heddon Valley where we passed a lovely waterfall on the way and had another lovely lunch at The Hunter's Inn. The weather made the coastal walks even more dramatic and the scenery was gorgeous. Jim, the property owner, is very warm and friendly. We will be back! The Wrights

Thank you for your feedback, with regards to your stay at Treetops. It really does sound like you had a wonderful stay, nature on your doorstep and lots of lovely walks, all finished off with a Pub lunch. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. It is comfortable, well equipped, and spotlessly clean. On our arrival it was easy to access and welcoming, with milk, wine (and chilled water) in the fridge. We loved the quiet and seclusion, and spent time relaxing - watching (and feeding) the birds. The host was friendly and helpful without being at all intrusive. We have already booked again for next year.

Suggest you take enough provisions for your first few days if you intend to self cater as the property is secluded.A very peaceful and scenic spot , if you enjoy peace and quiet, watching the different birds on the feeders and don’t mind a few steep walking paths you can’t get a better spot. Walk along the south west coast path directly from the property. The cabin is so much more than the photos show, with new furniture and features, the owner is so friendly and helpful but totally respectful of your privacy. We will return, hopefully in the autumn to enjoy the treetops at a difficult time of year.

  • "A superb and beautiful spot for a romantic week away."

Loved the well appointed, clean and generally excellent log cabin feel of the accommodation (plus welcoming gifts). Having the free bait balls for the feeder on site was a nice touch - spent many an evening relaxing as the sun went down, wine in hand watching the birds stuff themselves. Only downside was the lack of curtains / blinds / shutters over the gable window in the bedroom which meant the sun woke us up far too early in the morning for a holiday. Fortunately we happened to have some airline style sleep masks which stopped it becoming too much of an issue but I recommend mentioning people might wish to bring said masks with them in the listings to avoid this issue. Also, although completely understandable given its location, the listing didn't really convey just how limited the wi-fi was and as such it would be worth advising people that they need to download any media they want to watch / listen to before arriving as streaming any form of entertainment is a no-no. The lack of mobile phone signal (again understandable due to its location) is also something potential guest should be aware of. Finally in view of the narrow and steep roads reassurance that supermarket deliveries can still be made to the property would be a useful inclusion to the listing.

Thank you for taking time to provide this feedback and we're delighted that you enjoyed your stay and found the surroundings so relaxing. Thank you also for bringing some issues to our attention which we appreciate. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

On arrival James met us with a friendly handshake and showed us around the lodge, also remembering to show us where the bird food was kept as the birds certainly put on a show! The lodge is beautifully laid out and our welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar and Thornton chocolates, milk and white wine in the fridge and wine glasses ready on the coffee table was perfect. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table and patio table completed that extra touch. Lots of thought and care have obviously gone into the utensils, crockery and glassware provided for your stay, the cabin was clean, bed comfortable and linen and towels soft and fresh. The location is a paradise for walkers, dogs or those like us who just wanted to relax. We cannot recommend the cabin or James and Gloria highly enough, they certainly go the extra mile. The setting speaks for itself, nothing but birdsong and the chatter of "arguing" squirrels! To conclude, we did have one complaint, we had to leave and come home!! • "We have just returned from the most wonderful week at Treetops."

We often holiday in the UK, as we like to take our dog with us. This accommodation has totally raised the bar and set the benchmark by which all future holidays will be judged. Jim and Gloria were outstanding hosts. We were greeted by soft music and a hamper of goodies on arrival. The property was VERY clean and comfortable, warm and cosy. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and it was a very romantic setting. What stands out is the attention to detail, all crockery, glassware, towels, bedding, etc were of a standard that we would use at home; no cheap tat here! The bed was extremely comfortable and very difficult to get out of in the morning. To say the property is dog friendly is an understatement. We have been to “dog friendly” properties where the list of do’s and dont’s for our pooch was as long as your arm. Our dog, Mollie was warmly welcomed with treats, her own towel and blankets to protect the furniture. Refreshing not to see instructions to leave her on the floor. The wildlife on the balcony outside was indeed a sight to behold. We saw our first woodpeckers, 2 varieties as well as all the usual garden birds and even a cheeky squirrel, all feeding just feet away from us. We were so entertained we didn’t watch TV all week. The coastal path and many other footpaths were all within walking distance of the property. It was nice not to have to use the car everyday and Mollie was off lead almost all of the time. There were also plenty of places locally to eat and drink. We had a very good Sunday lunch at the National Trust owned Hunter’s Inn; superb homemade cake and cream teas at Charlie Friday’s in Lynmouth and other good meals at the Blue Ball Inn and the Fox & Goose in Parracombe, all of which were dog friendly. All in all it was an excellent week and we would not hesitate to recommend this property and stunning location.

  • "Treetops is a raised chalet situated in the grounds of the owners' house."

Having said that you don't feel confined or intruded upon, partly due to the raised nature of the accommodation and also due to the tranquillity and calm of the surroundings. We arrived at about 3.30 on the Friday of our weekend stay. The owners greeted us and gave us a brief tour. They made us feel relaxed and welcomed and managed the important knack of making us feel that they would be available if needed, but that we had our own space too. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The sitting room area had two large comfortable settees and a TV and DVD player. The kitchen had a fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and washing machine. That bathroom had both a shower and bath. The bedroom was cosy, but not cramped, and the bed was large and comfortable. Due to the weather we didn't use the outdoor seating. \ Saturday's weather was pretty horrible, so we drove to Lynton (3 miles or 5 depending on which route you take). We explored the shops and restaurants, and walked down the steep hill to Lynmouth, though took the cliff train back up. \ Sunday's weather was glorious for the time of year, so we walked from Treetops along the coastal path to Lynton, via the Valley of the Rocks. It was a lovely walk, arduous but definitely worth it. We had lunch in Lynmouth, before walking back.

The views and area in general were stunning with Woody Bay only 10 minutes' walk away. The lodge is supplied by water from a nearby spring which was the icing on the cake for me, being a bit of a health nut! We spent our time walking, visiting nearby places like Lynton and Lynmouth, relaxing in the peacefulness of the lodge or eating out. The Old Station House (15 mins drive away) provided good food at a reasonable price. It was probably the best holiday I've had and found a week was not long enough! The owners were lovely people and very welcoming, I will definitely holiday there again.

It's nicely laid out with a lot of care taken to make it welcoming and had of plenty of space for the two of us plus Alf our dog. It is so very peaceful and tranquil that if you want to just relax and rest or read it will be perfect spot. Woody Bay is magnificent, a beautiful area and the little bay itself it stunning. There are lots of walks in the area, some right from the door. The rest of Exmoor also has many interesting places to visit, we particularly enjoyed a walk from Porlock Weir especially and an evening walk around the Valley of the Rocks. We were greeted on arrival and shown around Treetops and given some interesting information on the history of Treetops and Woody Bay in general. Treetops was a very comfortable place to stay and sitting out on the decking watching all of the birds feeding very close by in the trees was a joy.

  • "My wife and I were extremely impressed with Treetops."

The owners could not have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They were founts of wisdom about the locality and are very obviously and rightly proud of what they have created. Having spent the last forty years using holiday cottages, I can honestly say that Treetops is one of the top venues. The cottage is beautifully presented and sits in wonderful surroundings. Wildlife abounds and you sit on the balcony right in it's midst. We were visited by many birds including nuthatches and woodpeckers using the feeder supplied by the owners. This may seem nothing out of the ordinary but because of regular feeding we sat on the balcony, no more than three metres away while they happily fed unperturbed by our presence. The surrounding woodlands have a special magic and remind me of scenes from Lord of the Rings. There is tranquility in abundance. This is a must visit property.

Woody Bay is magnificent, a beautiful area and the little bay itself it stunning. There are heaps of walks to do in the area, some right from Treetops door step. There is Hunters Inn pub, a stroll along the SW Coastal Path or a trek along the actual coat path which was magnificent which you can walk to from Treetops. The area is stunning and our dogs thoroughly loved it. The hosts are wonderful people, they greet you upon arrival show you around and seem to have that rare knack of understanding people on holiday. The owners Gloria and James were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we had everything.\ A superb location, surrounded by wildlife (we saw deer, badger, a variety of birdlife, and to cap it all, dolphins, several times!), and within easy reach of Lynton and Lynmouth, and Exmoor. Definitely one of our favourite locations and somewhere we'll try and return to.

  • ""Treetops" is truly tops."

To find wine in the fridge and a wonderful welcome pack of goodies was a great start to a wonderful holiday. Accommodation of the highest standard. Will book again.

  • "The location and the hosts made for a very enjoyable week."

The accommodation was excellent with everything we needed. The bird life on view out of the cottage was an added bonus.

  • "The property is unusual, Treetops describes it very well!"

We enjoyed the views, peace and quiet, some fabulous walking without even getting in the car. Lots of wildlife. Gloria and James were excellent hosts, always chatty when we saw them and full of advice on local sights.

The property

Treetops is a first floor detached property in Woody Bay, Devon.

The whole of the front of the building is glass, flooding the interior with light, and the conversion has produced an extremely attractive Scandinavian feel with lots of pale wood, bright rugs, comfortable furniture and modern fittings to make it a wonderful place in which to escape.

It is perfect for couples. Sliding doors lead into a large living room with TV, a DVD player, WiFi (limited), iPod dock, and a dining area and fitted kitchen.

It has a king-size bedroom overlooking the deck with a separate bathroom and can sleep two people in one bedroom. It is reached by a flight of wooden steps leading up to a large, private decking area which overlooks a wooded hillside and the North Devon coast in the distance. The property is close to a variety of places that offer outdoor activites such as riding, sea, lake and river fishing, golf and surfing.

You can explore all of this at Saunton Sands, Ilfracombe, Croyde Bay and Combe Martin. Despite being England’s smallest National Park, Exmoor has been named the most exquisite as it rises behind the rocky cliffs with its moors and streams.

The historical market town of Barnstaple is a short drive away, as well as the seaside resort of Minehead.

Treetops is the ideal place to visit for a short break with your partner.
