  • "As we entered the property the smell hit us."

Every room downstairs and up, were terribly smelly and we could not wait to leave the property each day. We eventually left the property 2 days earlier than paid for, as we could not bear to stay any longer. We wanted to alleviate the smells but could not open most of the windows. The smell of the mattress on the master bed was also so bad we had to sleep on top of the duvet. It was classed as 5 star accommodation, it should be altered to 1 star, if that. We were told that we only had hot water for 2 hours in the morning and again in the evening. It was so cold in the property that we had to ask for the heating to be put on, of which we were given 1 hour's heating in the morning and the same again in the evening. The pictures give the impression that it is self contained and that you enter through the middle door of the property. In fact, you are relegated to a side door where the path is really muddy. You can hear the owners and their dogs on the other side of doors that connect to the visitor wing, so it does not feel private at all.

  • "This is an amazing place to stay."

The garden is huge and beautiful and our dogs enjoyed it as much as we did. The owners are really helpful and refreshingly relaxed about everything and we felt quite at home. Staying in a historic property was a wonderful experience.

  • "This is a beautiful property, we had a fantastic time, all the amenities we required during our stay where available in the property."

The grounds are fantastic and well worth exploring, though I don’t think we got round them all. The owner could not be more helpful and friendly, if you needed anything you only had to ask and we thank them for making our stay so enjoyable. This property is ideal for exploring Dartmoor and South Devon. We would definitely consider hiring this property again in the future.

About the location

HORRABRIDGE

Tavistock 4.5 miles; Plymouth 11.5 miles.

Horrabridge is a charming riverside village located within beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Walkham, well known for its salmon fishing, flows vigorously under the village bridge, which is said to be the oldest in West Devon. An excellent base for a holiday in Devon, Horrabridge has a combination of olde-worlde charm and modern facilities, including a good pub near the river and a selection of small shops. There are many excellent walks starting from the village, taking you up onto Dartmoor and providing you with glorious views of the surrounding fields and hills where sheep and Dartmoor ponies gently graze. The market town of Tavistock, the main town of Dartmoor's western moor, is an exceptionally attractive town, owing much to fine Victorian architecture and its picturesque location on the banks of the River Tavy. There is no shortage of shops and cafes in Tavistock, plus the town is home to the purpose built Pannier Market - a must for every visitor.
