  • "Lovely cottage; really comfortable and plenty of towels available and lots of information on the area."

We spent a great few days here and would be happy to return. However a couple of points to note - the key box is really difficult to open and after a 10 hour journey, in the dark & rain, it took us 20 minutes to access the key, which was not a great start to the visit. The outside light did not help as it was only on for a very short time and was blocked when trying to open the key box. Vehicle access is very, very tight, especially if arriving in the dark. It was fine one we had done it a few times and the advice to come in from the top road is really important. Overall, the cottage is deceptively large and had everything we needed. We would certainly stay here again, knowing it has everything we need and more and that is is really cosy, comfortable and very quiet.

  • "The cottage was excellent, the only thing was of concern was the very narrow road leading to the cottage."

We made sure that returned to cottage before it got dark. Apart from that everything was very good.

Owners friendly and happy to help with anything. Parking was great right outside cottage. My only recommendation would be perhaps to include a welcome pack as I've had in other cottages ie scones biscuits etc. Also the leaflets in the living room are up to 5 years out of date and we headed to a toy museum advertised in cottage which has shut down

  • "Just returned from Rose Cottage, lovely cottage, much larger than we expected and filled with everything we needed for an enjoyable and relaxing stay."

Perfectly positioned for explaining Somerset, Devon and Dorset, and all without travelling long distances or being stuck in traffic. We loved returning to the cottage in an evening and sitting in the snug lounge watching tv with a glass of wine/beer. You can walk to the Poppe Inn at the top of the lane which serves food, although we tended to eat out on our way back from our day out. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants around, some of those we tried from the recommended list in the welcome pack. Would definitely return to this little gem of a cottage.

  • "This was just as described, perfect."

Fab facilities, TV, cooker, washing machine and dryer etc even a dishwasher :). This little cottage is a perfect gem that I would buy if I could. The wood burner was the icing on the cake and lovely after a walk to the pub. The only slight improvement for me would have been a kingsize bed in the main bedroom and possibly a better mattress, we took our own topper after reading one of the reviews, so we were fine. I would definitely go back it's tucked away and private and has a great feel. I would agree with all the comments regarding access but as we had a little VW UP we had no problems parking on the drive or accessing. That said I saw plenty of larger vehicles managing to get up and down the lane, obviously well practiced locals. Chard is also a cool place and you have a short journey to the lovely beaches of Charmouth , Bridport etc etc. A great place to recharge your batteries and explore.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage."

The lane to the driveway is very narrow, and not recommended for large vehicles, as we knew in advance, but it was a very peaceful and quiet village, so we appreciated that. Great that there is plenty of crockery and cutlery! My husband found the double mattress a bit hard, and the springs 'twanged' when turning over in bed, but it was ok for me. Nice hot shower, and we didn't really need any heating on other than early morning, as the weather was pleasant. The cottage is within easy reach of coastal towns such as Lyme Regis and Sidmouth, and there are plenty of walks and attractions within a few miles.

  • "Lovely cottage in quiet location, not too far from coast and other places of interest."

Plenty of living space, nice sofa and comfy beds. Handy second bathroom. Lane VERY twisty and narrow so tricky to navigate if car not small. Enjoyed our stay. Would recommend.

  • "We had a great time at Rose Cottage and had the best holiday - there’s so much to do in the area for whatever age."

We will be going back! The cottage is on a VERY narrow lane, which we got used to eventually, but parking was easy and the lane was extremely quiet. The cottage is well equipped, cosy and with really comfy beds (so important after long days exploring, swimming and visiting). A few things need attention however - TV signal is still not great, the upstairs shower didn’t hold a constant temperature, the fridge is tiny and the downstairs shower room light is a hazard for anyone over 5’10”……I’m 6’4” and my forehead become intimate with the light almost every day! I’d certainly go back to Rose Cottage, but probably only with a smaller party and possibly in the autumn/winter (that log burner looked very very tempting!).

  • "Rose Cottage was a very happy experience for us."

A lovely and well-appointed cottage (truly with lovely Roses to greet us!) Arrival was most happy, with many thoughtful instructions from the owner and great assistance from the owners when the boiler needed a reboot. The surrounding region is wonderful for day-trips, and we enjoyed Charmouth & Sidmouth in particular. Some thoughts for future guests: a) The listing is quite accurate that the laneway access to the private drive is very (VERY!) narrow. It. might help guests to suggest that a larger vehicle (like we had) would be very difficult to navigate into the parking spot....especially if it is a nighttime arrival (as was ours). b) the mattresses could do with a refresh - the middle bedroom has a bed with a metal frame that provides only a moderately comfortable rest. The small single bedroom, could definitely use a mattress refresh. c) The garden was lush, yet could do with a cut-back, so that guests could easily use the picnic bench and single bench - the greenery was all-round those seating areas. Otherwise, it was a fine and restful week at Rose Cottage and we will certainly be booking it again in the future!

  • "The cottage was lovely, had everything we needed and was nice and warm."

It is situated in a quiet area within half an hours distance to travel to places like Seaton and Lyme Regis. The only thing to consider is, if you have a big car, the road the cottage is on is very narrow! We would definitely consider a return visit.

  • "On arrival it was apparent straight away that a deep clean of the property was needed."

I had brought my own disinfectant and started to clean down the kitchen area that was full of grime on cupboard handles and doors. The dishwasher was full of waste food and water. Windows in kitchen couldn’t see through, and the list goes on. The previous issue of a kettle in need of replacement from previous reviews had not been resolved which led to us having to use a pan to boil water. The cottage is being let down by poor cleaning and this clearly has been an issue for some time as there is a build up of lime scale in both bathrooms. With the current situation of Covid the owners are not ensuring that this property is kept to the required standards. I did contact the owners and they offered to send in the cleaners but we declined after having disinfected the areas we were using. It is a shame that the cottage is not being kept up to the required standard because it could be the perfect hideaway. Don’t think we will be returning to this property.

  • "Whilst we spent an enjoyable week at Rose Cottage, for us there were a few issues which, in our opinion, prevented giving high marks."

Access to the upstairs bathroom from main bedroom during the night was difficult for people with mobility problems as it entails descending several steps and the ascending several steps, whereas normally we would expect the bathroom to be on the same level. Access to showers on both levels proved far from easy, the shower on 1 st floor was in the bath whereas the shower on ground floor was a little on the small side. Had these factors been flagged up in the property details it is likely we would have looked elsewhere. We would stress however that these experiences are from a purely personal point of view due to some mobility issues and overall did not spoil our experience.

The restrictions due to COVID-19 meant we did not get to experience the cottage in its full glory. The cleanliness was generally good, except we found several items of crockery and cutlery that had not been cleaned properly. This we assumed was past tenants not following the rules regarding cleaning at the end of the holiday or checking the items when emptying the dishwasher .

Nice little friendly pub nearby if you don't fancy a drive and a well stocked shop within reasonable walking distance. The cottage had everything we needed - those little extras that you usually miss on the first night before you have had chance to sort yourself out (soap, cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets!, etc) were already there on arrival; no need to go to the shop until next day. Hope to return some day!

The cottage is spacious, the keysafe is quite low down to access and was difficult to open in pouring rain. The front door key is tricky to operate sometimes. The cottage is warm and the heating system very responsive. The cottage is ideally placed to tour the area, lots of National Trust properties nearby and Sherborne Abbey is well worth a visit.

The accommodation was clean, tidy and had all the facilities that a family needs. Large t.v was great, the open plan dining/kitchen area and comfortable bedrooms were all very welcome. The only grumbles were the sofas were a little tired and the kettle was unusable due to it being heavily scaled. These minor issues did not mar our stay in an otherwise excellent cottage.

Not quite as rural as we thought but there are some lovely countryside views from the bedrooms. The cottage is ideally placed for exploring the East Devon and West Dorset coastline. Inside the cottage was clean and comfortable with all facilities that you would expect. I do have to point out that the lane leading to the cottage is VERY narrow, with some sharp corners to turn in your vehicle - surprisingly it is also a 2 way road!! Our DS4 just managed to fit between the cottage wall and the cottage opposite on the lane, however, parking once at the cottage is ample for large cars!
