  • "The cottage itself is a delight in terms of setting, cleanliness and appointments."

It's definitely one on the "again" list. Well done to Simon and Arabella, the owners. We were blessed with great weather for October and enjoyed exploring that part of Devon. I would make just two comments by way of helping to improve, not criticism. 1. The last stage of the directions to the cottage involve a rather hazardous turn on a bend, especially if leaving the cottage for the day. The safer route to arrive by is to go down the lane nearer to Whiddon Down, travel about a mile and then turn right into another lane, travel half a mile down this lane and the cottage lane is on the left. 2. We felt the cushions on the sofa were coming to the end of the comfort zone and would benefit from more padding. All in all a great week.

  • "A lovely, comfortable and well equipped cottage."

Pretty dining room to enjoy our meals. Lovely bathrooms with great facilities. Comfortable bed in the top bedroom, with pretty views. We really enjoyed our time here, very quiet and peaceful too. A lovely welcome hamper was left for us, which we have really enjoyed, a lovely touch and most appreciated. We didn't use the garden much at all, as we were out all day enjoying the delights of Dartmoor, but the secluded garden was a very pretty spot to enjoy a cup of tea. It is a place we would definitely return to, so much more to explore on Dartmoor and around. The lane is tricky to turn out of on to the road, but if you take care it is not really a problem, and the seclusion and tiny Devon lanes are part of the charm!

  • "The cottage is set in a beautiful area & we were very comfortable in it."

We’d have loved to have enjoyed the hamper of local products much praised by other reviewers, but unfortunately none was forthcoming, so we can only imagine it’s delights. In fact, there wasn’t even a pint of milk in the ‘fridge to welcome us, so be warned & take some with you!

  • "We had a fabulous holiday."

The cottage location was so peaceful and stunning views. We could watch cows and horses from the cottage windows. The cottage was welcoming and very comfortable. The owner was lovely . The welcome pack was wine , cheese , jams and a selection of biscuit/ crackers . A really enjoyable selection . The beds were comfortable. The garden is opposite the cottage with a gate . Very pretty garden. Plenty of parking for 2 cars . We went out everyday to different places during the day and played games , watch tv and did puzzles on the very large dining table in the evening. A perfect family holiday.

  • "A very well proportioned relatively new property in the grounds of the owners huge and beautiful house and gardens - met Simon briefly - he was very helpful re local amenities."

Very comfortable and relatively spacious - there is a double bed on the first floor and a king size on the upper floor. It overlooks a great view from the front with fields with cattle and horses to the rear. It is an incredibly quiet and peaceful setting -.the garden has no real view being surrounded by tall hedging and a wooded area - its quite sloped but we managed to have meals (take a table and chairs) and enjoyed the enclosed space. Driving out of the property can be a nigh-mare - the exit at the end of a long narrow lane is obscured and tough to see the traffic which though not busy tends to wizz past from the right) so a mirror on the opposite side of the road would help. We ended up turning right at the top of the path down to the property to avoid the normal exit. Overall I would highly recommend the cottage.

  • "The vellux blinds in the top bedroom allow sun and daylight through them, so consequently we were awake at sunrise (approx 5 am) each morning!"

I believe vellux black out blinds would make future visitors' stays more comfortable. However the rural location and surroundings of the cottage were the most beautiful we've stayed in (and we've stayed in a few). We had lambs in the front garden, calves in the field behind and nature all around us - idyllic!

  • "Heating broke down 2 days to fix but maintance man of cottage did bring extra logs so we could light a fire."

Wi fi did not work took 2 days to sort.dish washer leaked on to kitchen floor.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Your comments were passed to the owner who has taken them on board and addressed the issues. The Wi-Fi problem has been fixed following a visit by a Wi-Fi engineer and new routers have been installed. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is simply a lovely place to stay."

The furnishings are cosy and comfortable, the bedding is first-rate, the kitchen nicely done (apart from lacking a pair of scissors and could do with some new kitchen knives). The setting is delightful and the views are excellent. Simon the owner popped in to make sure we were ok on the first day, while John the manager is on hand for any issues. We would like to go back again but the same week we had in May 2021, which we paid £463 for is £649 for 2022 – outrageous exploitation by Sykes, the real owners of Helpful Holidays. Oh and forget about trying to phone the company, it's impossible.

  • "We had a good week at the beautiful Cromlech Cottage and were welcomed with a lovely basket of treats, thank you."

The weather was rather wet but Dartmoor is still beautiful in the rain. The cottage was cosy with comfortable beds and good showers and very clean. An extra wall cupboard in the kitchen would have been useful to store food in as storage space was limited, this was not a big problem as we ate out mostly and it would not stop me from coming again. Would recommend Cromlech Cottage as a peaceful retreat and a good place to explore Dartmoor from.
