Very comfortable, very clean, very well thought out. It felt like a proper home (nicely furnished, lovely garden, food for the birds, very well-equipped) and we loved it. There were fresh flowers and a welcome pack and little things that showed someone has thought about this property (you could plug a hair dryer in without reaching behind furniture AND see yourself in a mirror, there was space in the kitchen cupboards for food, there was plenty of storage in the bathroom). Top tip would be reverse into the slightly awkward parking space but otherwise a perfect home from home.

The open plan layout downstairs was great for relaxing together, watching telly, doing a bit of work and the odd bit of cooking. The upstairs bedroom is airy and bright, but cosy at night. The location was ideal right in the centre of Watchet. Everything you could possibly need was close at hand, with many excellent pubs and cafes. We were unable to park in the designated parking space as it was too tight to manouvre into. We realised if we could park there, we wouldn’t be able to open the doors. Chris the owner had kept us right up to date with his emails and texts so there were no problems at all. Close to everything and once we'd got our bearings it was the perfect base for the holiday. The Bakery itself is a lovely cottage with everything you could need on a break. And we loved Watchet, loads of places to eat and drink including the Esplanade bar which had live music throughout the week and most evenings we just sat outside there and looked out over the harbour. Sam's Deli is a great place to pick up a snack with the best scotch eggs you've tasted. But I will say that the top place to go (if you don't mind doing a bit of cooking yourself) is Richard Little's butchers. No kidding, everything was delicious. I'd highly recommend The Bakery as a holiday cottage, it's almost perfect but if you have a large car (Range Rover etc) please be aware that the parking space for the cottage is VERY tight.

About the location

Minehead 9 miles.

Watchet is a delightful, small Somerset harbour town with a maritime history going back over two millennia, where visitors may enjoy the variety of quaint shops on offer and watch the boats in the marina. Watchet attracts railway enthusiasts from all around, as The West Somerset Railway, twenty miles of preserved steam railway, passes through Watchet and continues through stunning scenery to the coastal town of Minehead, approximately nine miles away. There are superb walks along the coast from Watchet, while towards St Audries in the east, the Quantock Hills rise to 1,000 feet above the sea and the Brendon Hills and Exmoor are to the west, within easy reach. Explore the many pretty coastal and inland villages including Porlock, with its steep hill and pretty winding streets, Dunster with its dramatic castle perched above the historic village and the busy resort of Minehead with its sandy beach, golf course and traditional seaside attractions. This is an excellent choice of holiday destination for rural beauty, dramatic coastline and splendid walking.
