A beautifully furnished, immaculately clean and centrally located cottage in Watchet to explore this lovely part of the country. The little extras provided by Chris and Christine (welcome pack a lovely touch) made The Bakery feel 'home from home'. Lovely garden to enjoy, weather permitting. Can see why guests return regularly. This was our first visit but won't be our last!

  • "The Bakery is a beautiful little cottage right in the heart of the old part of Watchet."

The interior is modern, well appointed and nicely furnished with a sizeable bedroom upstairs and comfortable kitchen diner / living area downstairs. Everything was spotlessly clean. There were some lovely touches provided by the hosts including some milk and chocolate biscuits, local walk books and a guide to what was open in Watchet that week. We would definitely book again if we decide to come back to Watchet and it’s available.

I found the book about the area and places to visit very useful. It was welcoming and had a very homely feel. The log burner is a nice touch, but with central heating we did not need to light it. There are games and books provided for use. The welcome pack together with tea, coffee etc. is a well thought out. Bed extremely comfortable. Beautiful enclosed garden to rear, unfortunately weather stopped us using it. I cannot fault the place, if i wanted to be picky I might suggest bath sheets rather than towels.

  • "We regularly stay in Sykes cottages at various times of the year and have always found the standard of accommodation to be excellent."

The Bakery in Watchet lived up to all of our expectations, it was superb in every respect being roomy, modern, well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean; the moment we walked into the cottage we felt at home. The cottage is ideally located in the centre of this charming seaside harbour town yet it had a delightful private garden and an enclosed courtyard with six allocated, well set-out and marked parking spaces. In addition, there is street parking outside and car parks close by. The owners have prepared and excellent manual and visitors guide folder that contained everything you needed to know about the property, Watchet and the surrounding area. In addition, Chris and Christine have provided OS maps, booklets and information guides to enable you to explore Watchet and the surrounding area and attractions either on foot by car or public transport. Being modern the cottage is well insulated and has an efficient Combi boiler providing both hot water and central heating. We visited in October and did not need the central heating but visitors would be kept warm and cosy during in the cold winter months. There is even a log burner set up and ready to light with fuel provided; not that it would be needed.

  • "A very clean and comfortable holiday property in good location within easy walking distance of shops and pubs."

Good blackout curtains in the bedroom help a good night's sleep - not always the case in holiday rentals. Only tiny point - we found the shower really hot - it is just about possible to get the control to a skin bearable temperature but it is very stiff so might need a bit of WD40/maintenance. Also on our last day the one of the bathroom spotlights just dropped down on its wire from the ceiling and sadly neither of us are fit enough to pop up on a chair and pop it back into it's ceiling clip. But these are tiny negatives and, as it is generally a very well maintained property, I am sure these tiny maintenance issues will be quickly followed up by the owners. If you are very sensitive about the possibility of being slightly overlooked by one other property from their juliet balcony across the rear private car parking area, you might like to have net curtains/net blinds on the sitting room patio doors but it didn't bother us and to the contrary it's nice to have a clear view of the pretty garden. Rest assured this is an excellent place to stay with very good instructions and the driving tour guides provided were excellent and much appreciated. The private allocated car parking space with easy access to the rear of the property is a bonus - in addition to street parking available at the front of the property.

Well appointed and close to all of the local amenities. The only downside was the parking. Having checked with Sykes. They told us they had checked with the owners and our car would fit. No such conversation ever took place and we had to find another parking space. Luckily the owners arranged this with a neighbour. The owners were great. Not so sure about Sykes at the moment. We have used them many times, but this has annoyed and upset us!

We are very sorry for the misunderstanding between our guests and Sykes which meant that they arrived in a large 'Discovery' rather than the small/medium car stated on the website information. Fortunately, on this occasion, we were able to sort something out for them and are so pleased they enjoyed their stay in the cottage. Close to everything and once we'd got our bearings it was the perfect base for the holiday. The Bakery itself is a lovely cottage with everything you could need on a break. And we loved Watchet, loads of places to eat and drink including the Esplanade bar which had live music throughout the week and most evenings we just sat outside there and looked out over the harbour. Sam's Deli is a great place to pick up a snack with the best scotch eggs you've tasted. But I will say that the top place to go (if you don't mind doing a bit of cooking yourself) is Richard Little's butchers. No kidding, everything was delicious. Chris and Christine had supplied comprehensive information of the local area including walks, and drives, which we enjoyed. The welcome goodies were a pleasant surprise. The location of the cottage could't be better, close to all amenities but private enough to have peace and quiet. Getting about the countryside was so easy, with the options of walking, driving, bus and train. We were fortunate that the weather was lovely and we both had a thoroughly enjoyable week.

  • "What a beautiful little cottage."

It felt like a real home from home and was spotless when we arrived. The owners have been very considerate, right down to the fresh flowers and provisions. The log burner was made up, ready to light when we arrived and as it was a freezing day, we lit it - the room felt very cosy !! The owners have also been very thoughtful and made up laminated sheets and folders with suggested scenic drives and walks - we did one of the drives and the directions were impeccable, even directing you to car parks at each village stop en route. We had 2 very nice meals at The Star Inn, a 5 minute walk down the road - Watchet is a small village, with a few shops/pubs and was perfect for our chilling weekend away. I can thoroughly recommend The Bakery and will be telling my friends all about it !!
