  • "Amazing house."

Very well equipped with everything you need for a great stay. Brilliant views. Will certainly go back. Lovely local pub. Nice coastal walk to Blackpool Sands. Overall - fantastic. Only issue was the 9am checkout, a little later would have been appreciated.

Had a very comfortable stay. The cottage was very clean, and well equipped with all the amenities in place. What was required to be brought/done were also well explained upfront in the welcome emails. All in all a very pleasant experience.

  • "Skerries is a wonderful house and was just the perfect venue for our 40th anniversary."

A truly superb week with our dear friends ! I mean my feedback here to be only and entirely constructive. The property is presented to a high spec, comfortably furnished and is beautifully finished with a host of seaside pictures in every room. The beds are very comfortable but, and given the expense, I do think a Super King size bed would be more appropriate in the master bedroom, after all it’s a big enough room to easily lose an Alaskan King size. What fabulous views though ! The kitchen is comprehensively fitted out and very well stocked with loads of cups, glasses, plates and cutlery – makes such a difference when you can empty the dishwasher when you want to rather than need too. The hob has silly controls – obviously the choice of some techy bloke ! – but cupboard, fridge and freezer storage absolutely perfect for 10 guests – most probably specified and designed by a very thoughtful ‘her indoors’ ! I expected a coffee machine and only a cafetiere present, so was glad I brought along my own De’Longhi coffee machine as I just can’t live without a proper coffee. The bathrooms are well kitted-out and very pleased to find that showers were all off the main hot water system. We only watched tv for the footie but Netflix only available by subscription. The Sonos sound system works fine but the choice of music is very limited – access to Spotify would be good. Skerries is beautifully presented and a credit to its owners who have spared little expense in its finishings. There are Denby coffee cups in the kitchen and even Miele appliances in the utility. I dearly hope everyone will respect this property to the same degree as they would their own. Location superb ! The beautiful South Coast footpath is approx. 50mtrs from the front gate. The village shop and King’s Arms community pub is within a couple of minutes walk. Dartmouth about 5 miles. There’s just nothing not to like about this place. And ... we got 6 cars comfortably on the drive with the gate shut !! Sending a separate note to agent listing one or two things requiring a little maintenance.

  • "Great property."

Ideal place to celebrate Christmas with a family Only issue was the heating - we couldn't get it right. It was either too hot or freezing cold. Not sure what we were doing wrong. Well equipped - except for the lack of sharp knives for cutting vegetables and meat. Host was superb, easy to contact, prompt in his responses. We left an item behind and the host was very helpful in returning it to us.

  • "Thanks for a lovely holiday, Skerries is a wonderful property & the perfect size for the 8 people in our part the views are brilliant, ( weather permitting)."

A few points to bring up regarding maintenance, the first being the tap in the kitchen is loose & makes it difficult to use & putting strain on the fittings that could fail. There were a few other points but mainly general wear and tear. Other than that we would highly recommend Skerries for a holiday.

  • "Very disappointed as there wasn’t any hot water for several days (4) until maintenance fixed it!"

This was not satisfactory with 3 grandchildren! We also had to buy new frying pans as the ones supplied were discussing and the oven needed a good clean too!

4.23. It is clear that the owners respect the guests by providing such a fabulous place to stay. The property, appliances and furniture are all very good quality. It’s very spacious and such a very well equipped kitchen. It was cleaned to a high standard too. The views out to sea are spectacular. It is situated in easy reach to many beautiful beaches. The village pub provided a lovely anniversary/ 60th birthday lunch. I cannot recommend this property enough. We truly hope to return next year. Thank you.

So pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Skerries so much. We would look forward to welcoming you back any time. Property Owner

  • "10 of us have just had a wonderful 5 day Christmas break at the Skerries."

The house was clean and very comfortable and extremely well equipped . A large decorated Christmas tree was provided and other decorations distributed around the house. The views from the large windows are spectacular over farmland to the sea. A few minutes walk brings you to the local post office/general store and the very friendly and welcoming pub serving good food. I have no hesitation in recommending the Skerries and would love to return.

Delighted to hear you had a wonderful Christmas break at Skerries. We would be more than happy to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely area, very good local pub (great Sunday roast) and shop."

Property is very beautiful, however for our stay at least, it was a case of style over substance as we found the house very uncomfortable. A formal complaint to Helpful Holidays is being prepared which will cover the points in detail, but a summary of dissatisfaction is as follows: House full of dead flies on arrival (at least 8 in kitchen area alone), vacuum cleaner on site left more fluff and debris than it picked up so not at all helpful in the clean up process (housekeeping needed to be called out upon arrival as not all the beds were made up as requested, so they helped vacuum up remainder of flies) House uncomfortably hot (despite turning all radiators off) No hot water in all of house except one bathroom for 5 nights out of our 7 night stay (it must be said facilities maintenance team communication very good). Attempts to rectify (putting on immersion heater) left our party temporarily without electricity. Our family have used Helpful Holidays for many years but sadly have seen quality and service decline year on year since becoming part of the Sykes Group.

  • "Stunning house with everything my family needed."

We felt very comfortable and had a great stay. Your management company responded quickly and efficiently to an issue with the master bedroom shower. We were confused with the bin situation as 1 of the bins was completely full of rubbish and the bottle also full . Perhaps you would clarify bin colours and collection dates as 1 is only collected fortnightly etc. Otherwise thanks for letting us use the house, amazing views, great facilities.

Delighted to hear you had a great time at Skerries. The whole bin collection service is complicated. We will relook at the instructions and try to make them clearer. Property Owner

It was perfect for all ages from 2 years and over! The house had breathtaking views from nearly all the rooms and a great patio for eating outdoors. It was perfectly situated for daily trips to the fabulous beach at Blackpool Sands as well as trips further afield to Salcombe and Hope Cove which has a superb restaurant on the beach. Strete is only a short walk away from the house and we found the local people extremely friendly.

  • "Skerries is a stunning property with amazing views."

It is furnished to a very high standard and extremely well equipped for self catering. Another bonus is that it is only a five minute walk to the village pub and the post office that sells almost everything. Although the property details advise that there is space for 3 cars on the drive we were able to park all five of our cars.

  • "Had a lovely time at Skerries- a house with the best views ever, especially from the master bedroom, but also most of the other rooms."

Once you get past the wow factor of the views - the house has everything you need, including 5 good-sized bathrooms and a very well- equipped modern kitchgen, with top-of-the range appliances, Dekton work surfaces and a steam oven alongside the conventional oven. Lovely clean and modern decor, comfortable sofas and lots of space for 7 people. The only negatives I can think of are -1.Lack of clear directions about the intricacies of recycling and refuse collection- the directions provided were very confusing- we put out the green bin on Tuesday only to find that nobody else in Strete had... 2. It is a bit difficult to turn into and out of the property, and park, due to it being directly off a busy road.

Thank you for your feedback. We will relook at the instructions but believe they are as clear as they can be. We find there to be enough room to park 3 cars off the road and enough room to turn the cars round so you can drive forwards onto the road. We have not had other guests raise these kinds of issues before. Property Owner

Don’t expect to then have to decorate yourself with very dated decorations that were found for us. A hot tub would be an added bonus !!

Thank you for your comments. As regards the decorations we were unfortunately let down by our maintenance person. I understand she did find the decorations for you and helped you put them up. Apologies this wasn't done for your arrival. As regards the TV in the kitchen area we do intend to replace this with a larger model during 2022. The underfloor heating and towel rails do work they were just turned off on the control panel. Property Owner

It has everything you could want for catering for yourselves with a large, modern kitchen /dining area. The location is stunning and just a short walk to the village pub! We stayed as a three generational family and the different living spaces meant there was room for everyone to have their own space. The only thing that would have improved the stay was air conditioning, but we were there over the hottest week of the year. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope to visit again .

  • "This house has the most amazing views and the majority of it was refurbished to a very high standard with unexpected additions such as a Quooker tap!"

The two bathrooms downstairs do not live up to the high standard of the rest of the house, the lower ground shower would not stay up to get underneath, and the adults staying in these rooms opted to use the upstairs showers when available. In the lower room the bed had not been made up otherwise it would have been noted that the mattress was covered in biscuit crumbs. The small bath towels would not dry as the radiators were not on and labelled not to be switched on, these we draped in the bedrooms where the sun is. When we tried to hoover areas that were missed unfortunately the hoover was ineffective. The saucepans had the teflon scratched in all cases, which is unhygienic so were not used and the oven pan had not been cleaned, there were no other baking trays. There were no clear waste bags and we did feel that perhaps the house had not had the same clean and attention usually given by the Sykes cleaners. The house has many positives, the scones milk etc on arrival were very much appreciated and was a lovely touch. The house itself is in a fabulous position as we discovered staying at Landscombe last year, the views are amazing. We would very much like to consider returning to Skerries and feel the above areas could be very easily addressed and would very much like your comments. You may publish our comments if you wish but have not agreed in the box due to some negatives.

There were 8 of us and although there were plenty of dining chairs, we felt that there could be a few more chairs with the patio set. Also, the page about the bin collections was missing - we did make enquiries locally and got some of the rubbish removed on the correct day. These are just a couple of observations and did not detract from the holiday. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and we found everything else we wanted. Have booked with Helpful Holidays and would certainly do so again. Great time, many thanks, Meriel Ovens
