  • "Fantastic position and views."

Good car parking for 2cars, considering it’s location.Equidistant from the castle and the town. Property very warm and comfortable. Property not suitable for people with limited mobility, steep steps and road leading up to it. Good to find a property with no pets allowed.

  • "Excellent property in a superb location overlooking the River Dart with fabulous views from the balcony."

Plenty of space inside and out, with more than enough kitchen utensils, crockery etc for a family of six, which is not always the case in a holiday let.

We had a lovely week in Dartmouth with plenty to do and many places to visit nearby. Would love to come back and do it all again.

  • "High Banks is a great property, with outstanding views and a very high standard of facilities, especially kitchen equipment and storage space."

Beds and lounge seating are both very comfortable. Thanks for the ‘summer weight’ duvets. The external decking area is amazing and we were lucky to be able to make use of it most days. Parking for two cars is a bonus - and we left our vehicles alone during our stay as Swannaton Road is steep and narrow. We had very good service from the property’s agents as an internal door handle failed and was repaired the day after reporting it. And although the router couldn’t be fixed during our stay the compensation of a very large box of chocolates delivered to our door was very much appreciated.

So glad you had a lovely time and thank you for your fantastic review! Very sorry about the wifi: all fixed now. Property Owner

  • "We loved the house, great location and I can see that this property is a work in progress, disappointed with the overall property finish, paining needs to be finished & in-fact it’s just finishing touches for me."

Silly things - no black bags left for sheets and towels. Overall we had a great stay and felt comfortable in the house, it was very homely and we would love to stay again more in season if we could stretch the budget. Mark

Thank you! We're very glad you enjoyed your stay and want to come back. Apologies for the finish: we had had the patio doors replaced and upgraded literally two days before you arrived and we were not aware that a newly plastered patch had not been painted over. This was fixed during changeover between guests as soon as we heard about it. Property Owner

  • "We loved this holiday home, the views were fabulous though we only had one day when the weather allowed us to sit outside."

I think the owners acknowledge that the downstairs (bedrooms) require some updating (though the bathrooms were lovely). Our ONLY complaint would be that the bedding in the main ensuite bedroom felt damp every night - whether that is because there is no door on the shower, I don't know but that room needs a dehumidifier for a week! A dressing table somewhere in the house to do your hair would also be good. As I say, the owners say in the bits of literature left out that they were due to do something downstairs but, understandably, the pandemic slowed their plans. The house had the best equipped kitchen of any Sykes home we have been to and every touch seemed to be thought of. Thanks to the owners for sharing their home. I hadn't been to Dartmouth since I was little (50 years ago!) but what a delightful town, full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. We thought long and hard about making a 600 mile round trip to Dartmouth during the fuel crisis and even delayed setting off by a day to see what the situation was but glad we did. We didn't use the car whilst we were away in case we couldn't fill up again but there was plenty to do walking from the door of the holiday home. Would recommend this home to anyone who doesn't mind a pleasant walk and short sharp steep bit on the way back!

Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! We've only been running our home as a holiday let since summer 2020 and are continually improving. We’re glad you liked the kitchen: we put a lot of effort into equipping it during 2020-2021. For 2022 we are upgrading the patio doors, and we hope to refresh the downstairs bedrooms for 2023. We're sorry to hear about the damp bedding. We’ve never previously had this issue and have stayed there throughout the year. We have had our maintenance team check this out who assure us there is no issue with the building. We do get rolling mists along the creek and heavy dew/condensation from the coastal air in cold autumn evenings which can sometimes come in through open windows. Equally, the en-suite shower does need doors/windows leaving open to ventilate the area. We have added a fan heater in the bedrooms downstairs if needed to help dry the air. Property Owner

  • "The house is beautiful, very clean and very well equipped."

The balcony has amazing views and was the highlight of the holiday as we couldn't always get a booking for dining we would sit out and watch the view across the river in the evening. We loved staying here and are thinking of booking again. The house is very close to the town and so not far from the shops and quay where you can book ferries trips and the train. Supermarkets are very close with a co-op and Marks and Spencer food shop in the town centre. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Thank you for your feedback! Yes, the balcony is the best room of the house! We put in the sofa, dining table and hammock chair to make the most of it, and we've left blankets to wrap up in if it's a bit chilly. As owners, sitting out there looking out over the creek on a summer's day has always been our Happy Place. For 2022 we are replacing the patio doors so that all three doors open out on to it from the living room/dining area. Property Owner

  • "This is a beautifully located property with the benefit of parking."

It was chosen during September 2020 due to its open plan lounge/diner/kitchen and the space, as two households were staying - both from the same family. The living area has three large patio doors opening onto a large balcony and it was this feature which sold the property to me as it meant that the windows could be open and there would be good air flow to the property. It was disappointing when we arrived to find that we were not allowed to open two of the large doors as an owner’s note said they were hard to close. This I think needs to be fixed or at least noted on the brochure description. The other problem is that the hot water ran out on our first day after just three of us had showered. We looked for the heating/water controls and were unable to find any. I called the rental company who said a maintenance man would call. As we were out we did not see him but were assured later that he had been and that there was a small free standing Nest control on the table in the hall which related to the hot water. On searching, it was found but by no means obvious as to what it was. However despite the man apparently having called there was still no hot water. One of our party found the small control and managed to adjust it to suit. May I suggest that instructions relating to this controller are included in the welcome pack! It would save time and effort for holidaymakers and the rental company. When sorting out the rubbish there were no large black bin bags at the property and no large bags to put the bedding in after use. We had to buy some. I understand that the owners have only recently started offering their property for rental so realise there may be a few teething problems but these are fairly substantial. Surely the rental company should advise them on these issues and check they are in place? Apart from these points we had a lovely stay. The house is well equipped, especially the kitchen and as previously stated the location is great, within walking distance of town and the castle. There are great walks in the area too.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. You were among our first guests, and we have continued to improve the property since then: we were a little caught out by the pandemic limiting improvements. There has always been easy access to the patio through the large door by the kitchen area, and we had always viewed the others more as windows, but we are fully replacing all patio doors for 2022 so that all three should open to make the whole space more flexible. We have updated instructions in the guest book for the thermostat and hot water, and have made sure that the hot water is left on continually while guests stay, and the room temperature is always set comfortably – there is a finite capacity to the hot water tank and when the hot water runs out it just needs leaving an hour to reheat. Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
