  • "The coach house was a lovely house."

We all had a great holiday. It was lovely of the owners to leave a welcome hamper for us all. The only thing that we all said was that the pillows were not comfortable they were too hard. Would still go again though.

Thank you for your lovely comments Linda and we are so glad that you all had a lovely time! Noted about the pillows - we tend to use medium firmness pillows but will now definitely add some 'soft' ones into the mix :-) Property Owner

We were welcomed to a warm cosy home & was amazed by the welcome hamper, fruit basket & refreshments. Our party covered 4 generations (16 months to 93 years) to celebrate our daughters 40th. Great location just a few minutes walk from sea front, coastal path, rail station, supermarket etc. We had a fab holiday & would certainly recommend the property & would definitely return.

Going to be hard to better this place. Thanks for a great place, well done, back home now with no sea views now Chris

  • "Great holiday home."

Location close to beaches, town centre, train station, numerous bus routes, Shaldon and the superb ness cove and many pubs and eateries. Our family group of 10, 6 adults and 4 children down to 3, had a mixed weather week but managed the beach on most days, a train ride to Dawlish Warren (didn’t know about the horrible fun fair) and a highly recommended mackerel fishing trip. The kitchen is on the small side for a large family but plenty of included equipment and utensils. The welcome hamper was extremely nice and filter coffee, tea all provided. One or two of the bedrooms need twin beds to accommodate children or poor sleeping adults. Bathrooms need bathroom accessories. The dining table took a little getting used to due to size and uneven surface. The games room and equipment is great although the table football should be moved into the lounge to enable space to play table tennis. Garden space good, barbecue very basic. A great week celebrating a special birthday.

We found the beds on the small side, although comfortable and the bunks very squeaky. The plumbing was interesting, we had to take it in turns to use the showers, or there was only a trickle of water and hot very hot and backwards taps! One tap issue was sorted quickly by the owner.

  • "Our family of 11, across 3 generations very much enjoyed our stay at the Coach House."

Location was great and we were on one or other of the local beaches on most days, even with indifferent weather. It was a very easy walk down to the closest beach, even with all of our paraphernalia loaded onto a beach trolley. Easy access to the Lido. We were there for the end of Carnival Week, which was a nice surprise. There is a Water Festival next week, and there seemed to be lots to do around the area if the weather is less than great. Overall, it was an excellent place to stay, with easy access on arrival using the key box, 3 house keys provided so that we could all come and go as we wished and the games room was enjoyed by the children. Netflix on the television was useful for a wet and windy morning. A couple of early problems were quickly resolved by the caretaker and owner. Worth mentioning is that the kitchen is a little small for a group of 11 people, but we got used to working around each other. There is definitely noise from the road which is immediately adjacent to the Coach House. Several of us in our group use earplugs anyway to help us sleep so it wasn’t too bad, but with windows open on a warm night there is noticeable traffic noise as vehicles accelerate up Dawlish Road. However, neither the kitchen size nor the proximity to the road would stop us booking the Coach House again. The children especially enjoyed going through the Smugglers Tunnel to Ness Cove beach.

There was a few problems we came across, the bannister on the stairs wasn't very clean so I wiped it all down with disinfectant wipes, the downstairs bathroom hot tap was loose, that wants to be rectified, there wasn't any long mirrors in the house and no mirrors near a plug for when you dry your hair, apart from those few minor details everything else was great.

Dear Anne, Thank you for your feedback. We were very surprised to hear that you found it necessary to wipe the banister rail during your stay. Our cleaning team are always scrupulous in their duties so we feel that this must have been a very unusual oversight on their part unfortunately. • "Lovely property, great welcome hampers however more attention needed on preparation for handover to ensure everything is ready for new guests."

The TV didn’t work in master bedroom, dishwasher top basket was broken and en-suite towel rail not working thus wet towels. Clearer check out instructions would also be helpful - had to check on bed stripping arrangements with housekeeping team as no instructions in the property and get laundry sacks delivered on last day. The Housekeeping team responded very quickly to support and resolve all our requests. More kitchen utensils, baking sheets and a salad bowl would be welcome additions to the kitchen when catering for a large family.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, the remote control needed new batteries, although there was also a remote control available in the second master bedroom which you could have used if you wished. The top basket of the dishwasher needed a slight adjustment which I understand you attended to. In view of the recent relaxation of COVID rules, we did not ask guests to strip their beds as was previously required. The towel rail was turned down by previous guests and the owner called round to bleed the radiator in case there was a problem. There was recently a property inspection where the kitchen utensils were checked (down to the last rolling pin, cheese greater and pasta tongs!) The salad bowls and baking sheets are in the bottom drawer next to the cooker. - The Helpful Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "The cottage was beautiful and very clean."

Beds were comfortable and bathrooms plentiful. The views too are lovely. The only downside was that it’s location on a busy road was not mentioned, neither that it’s close to railway. We all had difficulty sleeping because of this. Kitchen is also quite small so imagine catering for 12 would be difficult. Lastly, we noticed that hiring the cottage for the same period next year has more than doubled. I find this unreasonable and it would definitely deter me from booking another stay with Sykes in the future.

The comfort and enjoyment of our guests is of paramount importance to us and we therefore value all feedback. It was therefore disappointing to learn that you felt the agent’s website listing was not sufficiently accurate. In response to your comments however, we feel that since the close proximity of the property to the town centre, local beaches and all amenities is clearly mentioned within the description and highlighted as one of its many advantages, it should be quite clear to guests that The Coach House is not situated in an isolated location. We would also point out that the railway line mentioned runs through a deep cutting at the base of the cliffs more than 200 yards from the house where it cannot be seen from any part of the property. Trains do not run throughout the night as appears to be suggested. The Coach House is also served by great transport links and sits in its own grounds, adjacent to a ‘B’ road where night time traffic is also very much reduced. It is extremely important to us that all of our guests enjoy a pleasant and relaxing holiday and we are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the house, its many facilities and our welcome hamper during your stay with us. Our fabulous ratings and reviews over the past few years suggest that we are providing everything that could be required for a memorable holiday, but as always, we will continue to strive for perfection where possible. An amazing hamper and fresh fruit on arrival. All the essentials one would need. The lay out of the house was great. I would have liked toilet roll holders in toilets. The recycling/waste was very confusing and I am still not sure if we got it right. I would have preferred the general household waste explained...... we presumed that was all garbage but some in our party said dirty nappies was not part of this but there was nowhere else to put them. We lacked for nothing. The "glass walled" dining room was a real suntrap - most welcome on a windy October day and gave lovely views. The Games Room - pool, table football and table tennis was enjoyed by the children and their Dad!! There was ample off road car parking, a real bonus - we had 2 cars but you could have safely parked 4. Lovely views of the sea and town from the house - you are not overlooked and a safe walled garden for the grandchildren to play in. The location was perfect - a 5 minute walk to either the beach or the town, so you could abandon the car - marvellous. We, the grandparents went to a different pub everyday for lunch and had some super rides out, all within an hour's ride - Dartmoor, Bantham Bay, Dartmouth - some fabulous individual shops, Exmouth and Sidmouth. Teignmouth is a wonderful centre for exploring. So we would thoroughly recommend The Coach House and Sykes Holiday Cottages!

The place was lovely, would have been useful to have enough dish washer tablets and bin liners for potentially 12 people. I called Sykes one afternoon as we had unfortunately locked ourselves out, packing the car the door blew shut in the wind. Very annoying but could have been more serious if one of the little ones had been inside. I was queuing for 30 minutes before someone finally answered, we sheltered in the one car we had access to when it poured with rain. Eventually I was transferred to the local office who had no idea why I was put through, when I explained to Sharon my problem, she was extremely helpful and managed to allow us to gain access to the house. When I called Sykes previously there were IVR options in place which would I expect have speeded up the response on this occasion these had been removed. An unnecessary delay I thought.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and it is good to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House. The front door lock has been checked by the caretaker and no longer appears to be an issue. We are pleased to see that the team helped you to get back into the house when you locked yourselves out. As with all self-catering properties a starter amount of bins bags and dishwasher tablets might be provided with the expectation that guests will need to purchase their own supplies thereafter. Everyone loved it. Only things that were a little annoying: All the towels provided were really small so difficult to shower with (particularly for the pregnant women) To cook for 12 adults at once with a single oven is a big challenge! • "This is a wonderful large property which the owners have lovingly restored."

The bedrooms were very comfy and the whole property was very, very clean throughout and we appreciated the lovely welcome gifts for humans and pet :). The parking is ample we parked two very large vehicles and a smaller car with room for another. We all enjoyed the games room which was an added bonus. I also feel that not enough is made of the sea view in the property advert, you can see the sea from every room of the house and the garden which is sooo nice. The shops and seafront are very close which we walked to everyday easily in 5 - 10 minutes and for photographers the sun rises across the ocean are amazing, the pathway from the house is reasonably steep but very doable and there are taxis parked in the town if needed for less able so don't let this put you off. It is a very nice property to share with family and friends but spaced out bedrooms and lots of downstairs seating with ample space inside and out makes it easy and lovely to share but to also have your privacy as well. Teignmouth and the surrounding areas are beautiful, I don't think I have ever visited a place where you can see the coast from any direction you choose to walk or travel in. My only tip is book restaurants before you arrive all the ones in town are excellent with great reviews hence all were fully booked so we did struggle to eat out locally. I would definitely recommend this property and Sykes cottages whom we booked through were most helpful and easy to get hold of throughout the entire process , we also had a few extra asks of our property during our stay which they dealt with easily and very efficiently.

Thank you very much for taking the time to send us your feedback. We are pleased that you had such an enjoyable time and the owners are delighted with your lovely comments. We hope to have more photographs showing the sea views from the property on the website very soon. Property Owner
