Famous for its sandy beaches, piers, palm trees and plentiful attractions, the popular seaside town of Torquay in South Devon has been attracting visitors for the best part of 200 years. Torquay holds many delights for both families and couples, from an abundance of children’s activities whatever the weather, to coastal walks, restaurants and nightlife. There’s an abundance of amenities with three shopping centres to choose from, along with a great number of good places to eat and drink from elegant gastro pubs set on the water’s edge to traditional pubs, and of course, fish and chip shops. Take a wonderful walk along the clifftops to blow away any cobwebs and enjoy the far-reaching seascapes, or stroll beside the harbour and watch the little boats drift in and out of the bay. Visitors can catch a boat to Brixham or Paignton, try sea angling or a range of water-based activities, or head to the world-famous Paignton Zoo to come face-to-face with the friendly elephants and meerkats. Discover the history of the area with a visit to medieval Torre Abbey or head to Kents Cavern where you can venture underground through a fascinating labyrinth of prehistoric caves. From quiet romantic days by the sea to fun-filled family time together, there are a number of different beaches within easy reach.
