  • "This is a fantastic property, it's got all you need for a week or two away for 4-6 people."

It's spacious and super clean. The location is fantastic, it's at the end of a quiet lane and backs on to woods so it's super quiet and relaxing. There is a pub within 4 minute walk and the village is peaceful and relaxing. Special mention to the owner who was lovely and made us some scones and tiffin, thanks so much! We'd recommend anyone looking for a nice quiet break to book this property without hesitation. We'd happily return.

Pool table was great for our teenage boys, who used it most nights, hot tub was very clean and lights etc created a lovely outdoor space, with screens for privacy. Great walks from your front door (Sarah has typed out circular routes from and to the property). We used the woods walk (out of the property turn right after 10 metres) and saw wild deer in the woods. Would recommend to friends and family.

Beautiful accommodation in a stunning location that had everything we needed as a family to enjoy and relax and spend precious time together. The views from the garden were stunning and there is plenty of space to play games whilst having a BBQ. There is also a hot tub in an enclosed garden which was lovely to end your day in. The hosts were so kind and welcoming, even giving us a lift to the nearby Newton Abbot races and Sarah made us a lovely apple pie for when we arrived and later on in the week home made scones! Nothing was too much trouble! We thoroughly recommend this property if you are looking for family time and to relax. Will definitely be returning, one of the nicest holidays we have ever had! The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen is fitted for all your needs - there is plenty of space in the barn and lots of walks nearby. The patio garden with the hot tub is fully enclosed giving you plenty of privacy and gives you no worries of having your dog off the lead. • "What a wonderful property, beautiful location and great facilities."

Everything to a high standard within. Very spacious and tidy property, comfy lounge area with a huge TV. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, tidy and well presented. The kitchen itself has good appliances, and we made good use of them all for our meals. There was plenty of pans, dishes and utensils to make any meal. The fridge freezer had plenty of room for a weeks worth of food. The dining table which converted into a pool table was a highlight for us. The pool cloth was in excellent condition, the table ran straight and the cues were good. The other highlight was the hot tub, and was a great way to spend the afternoon after a morning of dog walking. Fits 4 people, so if more are going you will be fighting over it, as no one will want to get out. Has a canopy cover so it didn’t matter what the weather was like, we were using it. The hot tub is in the private enclosed courtyard garden, so a safe space for dogs to be loose in. The larger garden is shared with the owner and a nice large space for the dogs and humans. Our host Sarah was very welcoming, helpful and we arrived to a home made cheesecake and wine, and was spoilt with scones later in the week. She has thoughtfully stocked out and furnished the barn with everything you need, even down to local mapped out walks. She was on hand with advice for places to go and best ways to get there. Overall we had a fantastic relaxing time and would definitely recommend this wonderful property. Tips for others. We had an Asda delivery arranged for the first night, which was perfect as there are no local shops in the village. The only issue with taking the large mezzanine upstairs bedroom is remembering to shut all the blinds before bed in the lounge and bedroom area, as the morning light will come through and wake you. Also as its open plan, if you are not an early riser you will be woken by others as they go thru to the lounge or kitchen. The hot water come through very hot quickly so be mindful to add plenty of cold, for showers or washing up. The local pub serves amazing roasts, book early to avoid disappointment. Avoid driving through Hennock, satnavs try to send you on the shortest route when leaving the village from the barn, and you can find yourself driving down scarily narrow lanes. Always drive the short distance back to B3344 and you can get quickly to any route you need to, on nice normal size roads.

Arrival was seamless, Sarah was there to greet us and reminded us how to use the heating, fire etc and then we were left to enjoy our stay. The barn is beautifully clean and tidy with all the amenities you could want and need to fully enjoy a self catered break. Sarah made a beautiful cheesecake which we found in the fridge on arrival and then knocked with some fresh scones and cream on Sunday, a lovely little treat and very welcomed! The village pub is only a short hop down the hill and a lovely atmosphere inside. Paignton, Exeter and Brixham to name a few are also on the doorstep so although a village location it’s not difficult to access the local area. I love the Houndbeare Barn and will definitely be coming back with my family as well as my friends for a relaxing break away. There are many great walks right from just outside the front door and Exeter is only a 20 minute drive which was perfect for us The Cridford Inn is within 5 minutes walk and the food they serve is amazing and they welcome dogs which was really important to us. The boys especially loved the hot tub and pool table. The garden is beautiful with trees and lots of cyclamen and stunning views. The reason I gave the score I did for the accuracy of the listing is because it says walk in shower which to me it’s not. Fine for us but had my disabled husband been staying there is no way he would have managed with the shower. Not a complaint just an observation as when I book a property I have to make sure it’s suitable for him. Sarah the owner was there to meet us and show us round and nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen has everything you need and the dining table turns into a pool table!! Fantastic!! The hot tub was wonderful and the outside seating was huge and comfortable. There is a garden to use with a tree swing with amazing views and a seated area with a BBQ if you need it, plus a chiminea for when you want to stay out and take in the views into the late evening. There is a wonderful brook behind the barn which is a 10 minute wander down the hill and through a small wood....my boys loved throwing stones into the stream. This place was a perfect peaceful base out of the hussle and bustle of the town, but also within quick reach so so many tourist attractions. There is a play park a maximum 5 minute walk at the end of the road. Shop is 10 minute drive maximum. Pub is a 7 minute walk. You have to stay here!!! I can't fault it!!
