“Absolutely lovely cottage in idyllic setting - with real village life going on around us.”

Thoughtfully equipped. Favourite aspect - sitting on deck watching all the boats go by.

The property

Right on the water’s edge in the heart of Turnchapel, with outstanding and ever-changing views across bustling Plymouth is Drift Cottage.

This stunning detached cottage dating from 1755, was once a pilot boat house, but has now been beautifully refurbished to create a fabulous, contemporary holiday home.

Arranged over two floors, you enter through French windows via a decked area to the bright and spacious kitchen/dining room – a great space for everyone to be together.

Also on this floor is a king-size double bedroom with doors to the deck, splendid waterside views and an en suite shower-room.

There’s a family bathroom and a neat snug for children to play in too.

Head up to the first floor, where you'll find the main living space, a lovely, lofty, open room with beams to the apex, a feature 19th cent.

warship’s burner now housing an open fire and sliding doors to the balcony which has an elevated view of the water.

Two more bedrooms – a double with sliding doors to private balcony overlooking the water, and a small twin with original ship’s cabin beds and a smart shower-room complete the accommodation.

To the front is a private decked area, right on the water with table and chairs - a wonderful spot for alfresco meals, and below it a pontoon and private shingle foreshore.

Turnchapel is a historic fishing village right next to the water where the River Plym meets Plymouth Sound.

The village is home to two good food pubs, gym/squash courts, pool and water sports, so there’s always plenty to do.

Or if bright lights and big cities are more your thing, then little ferries will take you across the water to Plymouth where there is a theatre, cinema complex, shops and restaurants.

For a day at the seaside, the beaches of the South Hams are all within 15 miles.
