  • "A wonderful, immaculately clean cottage with characterful wooden floors and staircase, excellent facilities, and in the most amazing garden setting (complete with a real fairyland wooden bridge) that must keep Richard (owner and host) busy for hours each week."

We stayed for two nights at Honey Cottage. Richard himself is the most congenial vacation rental host you may ever meet - our first "short" chat with him lasted for almost two hours and covered many topics under the sun. Honey Cottage offers complete privacy, good private parking right by the cottage gate (the whole area is protected by electronic gates at the main entrance), and if you need Richard he's next door; otherwise, he'll never bother you. If we're in Devon again this will undoubtedly be where we'll return to stay.

The property has everything you will need, and is kept in top condition by the owner. It's location means that you can reach many popular destinations in Devon and Cornwall in less than 1 hour. We visited Tintagel Castle, The Eden Project, Newquay and various beaches. We had a fantastic time, and Honey House was a fantastic base for our holiday. Many thanks

  • "We had a fabulous holiday in Honey House, a wonderful cottage in a superb setting."

The house is very well presented and maintained, and exceptionally clean and fresh. The gardens and grounds are beautiful, further enhancing the property. Access to the property is off a main road, making it easy to drive around the area (rather than down a long, narrow Devon lane!) to many National Trust properties, RHS Rosemoor, Dartmoor and to the coast. The owner is very attentive, accessible and welcoming, with excellent communication prior to the visit. We highly recommend Honey House and would certainly visit again. Reading the visitors book in the house it is apparent that there are many returning guests, a true endorsement of guest satisfaction.

Richard is very friendly & helpful. We had a great holiday, made even better by the good weather. If I was being picky the beds are too low & so are the bedroom ceilings, though Richard can't change these. The way the microwave door opens is positively dangerous when handling hot bowls of food. There are wonderful places to visit from the property & walks to be had on the estate. Loved the wooden bridge over the river.

The property and gardens are maintained to a high standard and it is the cleanest cottage we have ever stayed in. Richard was an attentive host prior to our stay and made sure we were happy with everything when we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. Honey House is on the very edge of Dartmoor with easy access to the A30 and well placed for visiting North and South Devon and Cornwall. • "What a lovely cottage!"

Resting in it's own wooded valley with a river flowing nearby, it brought back childhood memories of summer holidays in Devon. On arriving, we received a warm welcome from our host Richard (and his dog Jess). Richard was very helpful, making us feel right at home. Staying for a week in November, the weather wasn't always kind, so it was great to return to the cosy warmth of Honey House. The cottage is so well looked after and extremely well equipped. Just what was needed as we planned to stay in most of the dark evenings and cook for ourselves. Honey House is conveniently located for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area. I should like to return in warmer weather, when long summer days will add to the beauty of this wonderful location. Well done. Thank you Richard.

The cottage and grounds are absolutely beautiful and the owner, Richard, was so welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything we needed with lots of helpful information provided. We walked the woodland of the cottage grounds and saw deer 2 nights running. The garden was a sun trap to sit in every evening after a day out and it was lovely to watch the numerous birds feeding just a couple of metres from the patio doors each day. The cottage is a great location for Lydford Gorge (well worth a visit), Meldon Resevoir walks, Dartmoor walks to the Tors, Drakes Trail and Granite Way for walking and cycling and there’s even good walks from the cottage door. Took my daughter horse riding over Dartmoor at Cholwell Riding Stables just 20 minutes down the road which was a lovely way to explore the moor and very friendly staff. Grounds vast and open for you to roam around, stream at bottom of garden and what we most enjoyed was seeing all the different birds visiting the bird feeder. Cottage small in size I would say more suited for a couple or young family. Bedrooms did get hot at night however had very good black out blinds, which were actually too good - got up during the night and had to use the (luckily supplied) torch! My personal gripe was location of bathroom - downstairs next to kitchen hence why I feel more suited for young family or couple. Quite remote so certainly need a car, no mobile signal at Honey House but WiFi very good and a land-line is supplied if really needed. Had a great stay.

  • "A pretty cottage in peaceful surroundings."

We had a five year old with us and we loved paddling in the River Tew/racing twig boats etc (supervised of course as there are some deeper sections). There is also a paddock where we could run and play football. There are woods to walk in where we spotted a deer. The bird feeders attract a variety of birds including a Greater Spotted Woodpecker who was fun to watch as he attacked the peanuts! Hot water in the cottage is the most immediate we've known. One had simply to switch it on for about a minute in the morning and radiators were hot for 15 minutes or so - useful for drying towels. The weather was clement and hot most days so the radiators were not needed otherwise. Richard is a thoughtful and welcoming host - we couldn't have wished for better, thank you. We have relatives in Tavistock and we made several forays onto Dartmoor. Ate out once at The White Hart in Bridestow (Barry, Hannah and Michael et al). Lovely meals - generous portions at reasonable prices. We chose to remain at Honey House most of the time as it has plenty to entertain a youngster. All good :)

We both wish we had found this cottage years ago for it is so peaceful, colourful in the garden with so many types of bird visiting, blue tits, coal tits, great tits and an occasional family of long tailed tits, not forgetting an odd nuthatch.
