  • "A fabulous property."

wonderfully quiet with great walks from the door. the fully enclosed orchard was perfect for our 6 month old puppy to run around without fear of her getting out into the fields beyond. the owners were lovely and extremely helpful. they had thought of pretty much everything to make our holiday comfortable and relaxing. this property is away from the coast but beaches are less than an hour away and the countryside and the moors are so stunning it doesn't matter. will definitely book again

  • "Dunsley Mill is the perfect holiday cottage and John and Helen are the perfect hosts."

We loved the layout of the ground floor of the property with a surprisingly spacious open-plan living-room and kitchen/dining room and three good-sized bedrooms upstairs. The new shower room on the ground floor was very luxurious. The owners have thought of everything - the house is comprehensively equipped including Sky and perfectly reliable internet and there were many generous touches like complementary tea, coffee and toiletries among other things. The location of the house is idyllic - set down a long private drive (which itself is off a very quiet lane) - means that it is absolutely peaceful. The owners are on hand if you need anything but in no way intrusive. The welcome and hospitality is exceptional and John and Helen were incredibly kind with help and support when a personal problem arose. We spent a blissful week over Christmas arriving on my younger daughter's 21st birthday. John and Helen had very thoughtfully put up Christmas decorations and kindly left a touching card and present for my daughter. Despite the constant rain, the beauty of the place, the comfort of the house and the hospitality of our hosts shone through. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a lovely place to stay in a beautiful setting. We hope to be able to return in the future when the weather is kinder!

  • "Dunsley Mill is a lovely property with very welcoming and thoughtful hosts and we really enjoyed our stay there, so the following are just observations on how it could be better: The beds and sofas could be a lot more comfortable and the downstairs TV sound quality wasn't great - we balanced it on some magazines which helped a bit."

Also, 'just a ten minute car journey to Dulverton' doesn't give the right impression (narrow, rutted lanes with few passing places meant we often had to reverse quite a long way, and if we lived there we'd definitely feel the need for a 4 by 4 vehicle).

  • "Both the sofas were not very comfortable and need attention and a larger TV as ..."

Both the sofas were not very comfortable and need attention and a larger TV as the position in the living room puts some guest some distance from the screen some repair work on the drive to the cottage would be a good idea if you have a small car with a full load onboard otherwise a great location if a little "off grid"

Thank you for your feedback which has been discussed with the owner, who confirmed that the sofa's are large, comfortable sofas and the TV is an appropriate size for the size of the room. The drive which is very long, has underground drains to prevent flooding, providing you take care and drive slowly and carefully there shouldn't be a problem. Dunsley Mill and its location are perfect if you are looking for peace and tranquillity. Property Owner

Cottage was very well equipped. Cottage was very hard to find. Cottage had lots of cobwebs and beds were not comfortable. The upstairs had low ceilings and uneven floors which may be problematic for some.

  • "This is such a lovely place to stay, far enough away from built areas to feel secluded, but not remote from facilities, there's plenty within a short drive."

Wonderful walks from the door, and many more within easy reach. The kitchen is really well equipped and the owners, who live next door, are charming and attentive without being at all intrusive. I'd highly recommend Dunsley Mill Barn.

  • "An absolutely beautiful cottage."

We all had a fantastic time. Every amenity was provided and the home made cake, wine and eggs were very much appreciated. The cottage is located in a very rural location so be prepared for some driving to get to the local village shops. The owners were warm, welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help us. Lovely memories have been made.

Really cosy cottage but on a personal note we find the sofas to be uncomfortable as with the mattress in the main bedroom. Replacing both would make this a 10 out if 10 cottage.

The property

Surrounded by 30 acres of rolling hills and green countryside, Dunsley Mill is a lovingly restored country barn and the epitome of an English country cottage.

Standing at the base of a private lane, adjacent to the owners’ home, the cottage is positioned near the village of Dulverton, midway between the villages of East and West Anstey and on the fringes of Exmoor National Park.

For those seeking peace and tranquility and an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of busy lives, this lovely cottage is sure to appeal.

Brimming with character, once over the threshold the history of this lovely cottage becomes evident, with exposed beams and stone walls, tastefully decorated in rich heritage shades.

A hallway with ground floor shower room to one side leads into a rich and cosy sitting room, open plan with a kitchen and dining area, divided by a useful breakfast bar.

A large woodburner sits in one corner to provide absolute cosiness in cooler months.

Three pretty, first floor bedrooms have use of an additional bathroom and the spacious landing allows space for a cot.

Outside you can choose to sit within a private gravel courtyard garden, sheltered from the hillside behind, or enjoy an evening sundowner on the deck that overlooks the stream and enjoy the tranquility of the countryside beyond.

Bring your boots as this is walking country, with superb walks accessible direct from the property.

Dulverton is close by with an excellent range of shops, pubs and restaurants and the villages of Withypool, Winsford and Exford all have great foodie pubs.

For larger shops and supermarkets the town of Tiverton and South Molton are easy reached and for days trips to the beach, you are within an hour from the beaches of Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde.

For those seeking a relaxing stay to unwind and enjoy country walks, Dunsley Mill is the perfect choice.
