  • "Property better than the photographs."

    Owner very helpful when a slight problem occurred. Outside area's of the site very run down. Track to the chalet was full of huge potholes, they were rain filled so didn't notice how deep they were until I drove over them.

The Donkey Den, a charming, two-bedroom holiday home rests in the quaint hamlet of Weston, just a short drive east from neighbouring Sidmouth in Devon.

Aptly-named being just a stone’s throw from The Donkey Sanctuary, a fantastic animal shelter popular with tourists, this delightful home boasts designated parking, a communal lawn with sea glimpses, and quirky, contemporary interiors, making it an idyllic base for a small family or group of sharing friends seeking a relaxing, self-catered stay near the Devonshire coast.

Step into your lovely new dwelling, wherein you’ll discover a tastefully presented living area, featuring a well-equipped kitchen where you can get to work rustling up a delicious dinner, an extendable dining table, and a sitting space with a sofa and Smart TV kept warm by an elegant wood burner-effect electric fire.

Head out on foot to explore Weston, where you can pop into the Maze Museum, where you can treat your loved ones to a hearty breakfast or lunch at The Kitchen at The Donkey Sanctuary, before spending a wholesome afternoon petting and feeding donkeys; there is also a delightful coastal walk down to the beach from The Donkey Den, to finish your day off with a sandy stroll.

If you are up for an adventurous walk to the secluded Weston Mouth Beach, as you approach the Donkey Sanctuary on foot from The Donkey Den, there is a footpath (steep at times) which leads through the scenic National Trust land to the beach.

Just outside the hamlet, golfers can also delight with a round at the Thorn Golf Centre, whilst a peaceful spot of birdwatching can be had at Sidmouth's Oakdown Bird Hide.

For a day out, head west by car into Sidmouth, a seaside town brimming with cafes, pubs, and restaurants, along with the landmarks and attractions of the Sidmouth Museum, the Blackmore Gardens, the picturesque Chit Rocks, and the iconic stretch of Sidmouth Beach and Sea Front.

If you’re in the mood for water sports, Sidmouth Beach is a good place to hire paddleboards, kayaks, and surf boards.

Known as the '”gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site,” Sidmouth beach leads you to Jacob’s Ladder Beach to stunning high coastal views at Connaught Gardens.
