  • "Not the usual empty shell, Church Steps Cottage is full of personal touches and attention to detail."

Bedrooms are generous and charming and there's a very pretty courtyard for sitting outside. We were very comfortable and had a great stay. Location is in the centre of Devon so, if you are happy to drive, there's lots to do - South to Dartmoor or North to the coast. We loved Woolly Alpacas, (just outside Winkleigh), River Dart Country Park, climbing Hound Tor, Tunnels Beach and Ilfracombe Sea Safari. Good little convenience store + pub, butchers and coffee shop in Winkleigh were handy too. We hope to come back.

  • "We stayed at Church Steps at the start of June 2021, the owner was very helpful and got in touch a couple weeks before our holiday to see if we needed any information about the area."

The cottage is lovely and cosy, and the yard to the rear proved to be an excellent sun trap. Although there isn't any dedicated parking, we were easily able to pull up outside to unpack the car, and we were always able to park up in the square which is a short walk through the church yard. The village is very nice as well and pleasant to walk around, plenty of thatched roofs and quiet streets, and can recommend the Kings Arms for a drink and a meal.

Although there are 3 bedrooms upstairs the space downstairs was so small it really was not big enough to accomodate 6 people (certainly not 6 adults)

  • "Church Steps is a delightful cottage."

It has all the equipment you may need and is wonderfully decorated. The owner is contactable and really helpful for any questions and suggestions. We had a fabulous week in Winkleigh which is a good central base in which to explore Devon.
