The property

Settled on the edge of the River Barle in the charming village of Withypool is this delightful ground-floor apartment Withymead Cottage.

Lying below the owner's property but enjoying its own private entrance, this serene retreat offers a small family or group a fantastic location to explore Somerset, being in the midst of the Exmoor National Park.

Step through the entrance, perfect for drying wet clothes after an adventurous day, to find the brightly decorated living space.

You can find quality furnishings in the form of a leather sofa and a smart dining table and chairs, offering the perfect places to gather together at the end of an adventure-filled day.

Whip up some simple classic dishes in the kitchen space which comes equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge, and a microwave, among several other appliances to ensure your self-catered stay goes smoothly when you’re not sampling the local pub grub.

This space overlooks the garden which stretches down to the River Barle below, so you can enjoy warm summer days out on the grass listening to the sounds of the water, or delight in your own little enclosed gravelled area with a picnic bench for you to perch at with a morning coffee.

Discover two lovely bedrooms including a double and a twin, both with dark grey hues and natural wood furnishings complementing each other well.

Freshen up in the neat white bathroom with a bright pink accent, which holds a bath with a shower over, and a basin, while the WC lies separately next door.

Withypool has delightful tea rooms where you can stop at on the way home from a ramble, or in the evenings head out for a drink at The Royal Oak Inn within easy walking distance at less than half a mile from Withymead Cottage.

This area of the beautiful and vast Exmoor National Park is home to North Devon Hawk Walks, a hands-on introduction to falconry, where you can fly the hawks within the stunning scenery of Exmoor, and it's suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

Head up to Winsford Hill which is known to be an excellent spot for catching sight of the Exmoor ponies as they can often be seen grazing by the roadside.

At 520-metres above sea level, Dunkery Beacon is Exmoor's highest point and is a brilliant place to experience some spectacular landscapes and scenery, as well as providing some invigorating walking terrain.

About the location

Exford 3.3 miles; Minehead 14.4 miles.

The village of Withypool has a remote, upland character and is surrounded by open moorland. Most of the village lies on the north side of the river and follows the narrow roads along the valley contours. The traditional buildings are wrapped in lime washed rendered stonewalls with slate roofs, adding to the sense of character. Within Withypool, there are the local general stores/Post Office, and tearooms. There are excellent short and long walks in and around this destination, including the Two Moors Way that passes through the village. One of the most popular walks is a four mile riverside stroll to Tarr Steps, with wonderful scenery. Close by, the picturesque village of Exford is situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park. In a charming setting by the River Exe, Exford boasts a village green, tea rooms, a shop, Post Office and two traditional inns serving excellent food and drinks.
