  • "Market House is very comfortable and well equipped."

Pete gave us a warm welcome and Pete and Joy provided an extremely generous welcome tray. There is fantastic walking locally and Abbotsbury itself is a very attractive village. All in all we had a terrific holiday in this excellent cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Dorset.

  • "We came for our daughter’s wedding and this cottage couldn’t have been better."

Pete was there to greet us and was extremely helpful. The welcome basket was exactly what we would have provided for ourselves had we needed something for the next morning’s breakfast or a little something in late afternoon. Just perfect. We walked all over hill and dale to the beach, and to my daughter’s house over the hill. Thank you Pete and Joy for making this a wonderful memory of a family time together for a wedding.

  • "Market House is a charming cottage in an equally charming village."

It is well equipped, very clean, beautiful decor. Mr & Mrs Channon left us a very generous tray of goodies which was much appreciated. The cottage is situated in a stunning part of Dorset. We had some lovely walks even on drizzly days. There is a bus stop in the village so we left the car behind and had a few days out.

We met Pete for the first time. He could not have been more helpful or welcoming. There was a lovely welcome pack and the house was absolutely spotless and in top condition. For us, one of the best things is that there are several places to sit and socialise, so the (student age) kids could amuse themselves and we could too, as well as spending time together as a family. A perfect spot for a break.

  • "Whilst cottage was superbly decorated, clean and comfortable , it was extremely noisy day and night."

Also was very dark so lights had to be on most of the time. The front garden could have been a plus sadly very overgrown and small patio at the back was not paved and was overgrown too.

We are extremely saddened by the comments of this guest. For anyone considering booking a holiday with us, please read the other guest comments below. But in response to the above, Abbotsbury is a very popular village and visited by many people. The property as stated in the description is it in the middle of the village and is the only property is in the street set back from the road. We have double glazing in all windows facing the road and it is ridiculous to say it is extremely noisy day and night. The attraction of this cottage I would imagine is its period charm; inglenook fireplace et al. and this is reflected also in the garden. Wisteria grows across the whole of the front of the property and to a degree will naturally shade the ground floor rooms on cloudy days. During the summer/early autumn, the Mexican fleabane daisies and star flowers are allowed to naturalise in the front garden and garden wall. In the winter months, they are cut back and the area cleared back to crazy paving. The rear courtyard is exactly as the photo on the website presents apart from the absence of a couple of plants. It is not overgrown but provides privacy. In the last week a group of people have rebooked for their fifth stay at the cottage. Property Owner

The kitchen was aptly filled with everything you might need to cook a big meal and the fire place was stocked with enough wood to light it a few times during our trip. The local area was beautiful, perfect for walks and bigger towns for anything else aren't too far. The owners were also very responsive and helpful during our stay there. It's somewhere I would definitely come back to and book again!! Only things to note is, there are quite a few steps and low ceilings which might not work for some and the car park is a short walk away from the property, which is fine in the day but at night the streets aren't lit very well so a torch is required, the property does provide them in each room so not a big issue for us.

Abbotsbury is a beautiful village and was the perfect base for exploring the area. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are well worth a visit, fantastic views, clear water and some nice spots for a drink and tasty ice cream. We also visited Monkey World which was great for families. It suited the whole family, from my mum in her eighties to our son in his twenties. Plenty of space to be together or apart. Great walks right on the doorstep and lovely, fresh produce being sold outside the village houses including chicken and duck eggs. Our hosts also provided a delicious welcome pack, which was a delightful surprise. NB The top bedroom would not be very suitable if someone is tall-the beam above the stairs is low.

However, I think you should mention that it’s positioned on the signed Jurassic Coast route so traffic can be heavy. It means that noise will be an issue when windows are open, the house is only slightly set back from the road.

There is everything and more you could want for a comfortable stay away from home. The house was very cosy, but nice and spacious so we could all spread out and with teenagers sometimes you just need this! Market street itself has so much, from a pub, tearooms, a village shop, a gorgeous wood shop, art gallery and church so you don't have to go far if you just wanted a chilled day not far from home. We had lots of days out to various beaches and sites and the location of this property was great for not having to travel to far for this.
