  • "Great experience at Starlings property, we loved the hot tub, we found it very family/kids friendly, we all had an amazing time."

We also found the area very quiet, and friendly neighbours, just what you need for a relaxing getaway. We will return for sure

  • "Such a lovely property!"

This is our second visit to starlings roost and it didn’t disappoint! The property is modern, comfortable and in a perfect location to explore Somerset. The Xmas touches were a great touch and made it a home from home. If we had any feedback a second telly in one of the bedrooms would be appreciated, a bedside light for the main bedroom would be a good addition and maybe some heaters for the conservatory/dining room. I know we visited in December but the conservatory was so cold we ended up not using the room and had dinner every night in the kitchen. It was a shame as it was a family get together and we wanted to celebrate Xmas early. Overall though great stay and we will certainly visit again!

  • "We had a very pleasant stay, used the hot tub daily, the only slight issue was that the hot tub goes on and off throughout the night, and because it’s right below the main bedroom window it disturbs your sleep."

We turned it off and just remembered to turn it on 30 minutes before we wanted to use it. Street is a lovely town, with everything you need with in a 10 minute drive.

  • "It was a lovely property, but unfortunately upon arrival we noticed quite a bad ants nest in the conservatory."

This was quite off putting. We contacted the owner, who sent someone a few hours later to clean it up. There was ant traps already down, so this must have been an ongoing issue. Throughout the holiday there were more dead ones and live ones. Ants and ant flies. We couldn’t avoid walking through due to needing to take our dog out in the garden. We had to pick the dog up to walk through. This was the main thing that spoilt it as my daughter was highly anxious and it wasn’t very nice for us either. Despite this we made the best out of a bad situation just so we could enjoy our once a year family holiday. The drive wasn’t very nice to park on, due to it being so steep. Also, one of the days when we arrived back from a day out, a car was parked outside the property waiting for us. We thought it was the owner and maybe they wanted to check the ant nest. I spoke to the man and soon realised he wasn’t the owner at all, he stated that the property was for sale and that he wanted to come and look around the property. I informed him we were on holiday and this wouldn’t be possible. We then informed the owner as it seemed quite suspicious. The neighbour was lovely and I would highly recommend visiting Cheddar.

  • "We had a nice Monday to Friday stay at Starlings Roost."

The bungalow had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. The rear garden was secure for our dog and the hot tub was lovely. The bungalow was situated at the edge of a quiet residential area in a quiet village. Not many facilities in Ashcott itself (which is a small village) but it was a good base to explore, with the RSPB reserve, Glastonbury and Wells just a short drive away. Only one complaint: can we order better weather for next time please?Despite the rain, we still enjoyed our stay!

Close to Glastonbury, Wells and Street.. Hot tub was a great extra. Could have done with a non slip mat for the bath. Only criticism was that on arrival the dish washer was full of dirty dishes, but it wasn't an issue. The garden is secure and pretty, suitable for dogs. We had a wonderful stay.

Spotless throughout. Well-maintained gardens, very private. Hot tub was amazing! Ashcott offers many dog-friendly walks and is close to attractions. Seeing deer and marsh harriers at RSPB Ham Wall, under 2 miles from the cottage was a great experience! Biscuits, prosecco and other goodies, including dog treats left by the owner of the cottage were much appreciated. For a relaxing break in the country, we cannot recommend highly enough

  • "We chose to have a winter break at Starlings Roost so that we could do some walking and to see the birdlife."

It appealed to us because of its close proximity to RSPB Ham Wall - it's a 5 minute drive away and we were very fortunate to be treated to some exceptional starling murmurations at RSPB Ham Wall. We went every day at sunset. We also visited at sunrise to see them lift off, as we knew where they had roosted the night before, and this experience was just as magical with no-one else there.....as long as you can drag yourself out of bed in the dark! The cottage was very clean and bright. It was particularly cold weather whilst we were there in January and the cottage was very warm and cosy. Both the kitchen and bathrooms are modern and well equipped. We slept in the king sized bed and found it to be very comfortable. We had a small problem/unexpected issue whilst we were there (which was not the fault of the cottage owner) but the owner responded immediately and resolved the matter within a couple of hours for which we were very grateful.

The property was very comfortable, clean and welcoming. Fresh flowers in every room, a welcome pack of prosecco, tea, coffee, biscuits, jam and treats for the dog was a lovely touch, thank you. Loved being able to see Glastonbury Tor and Walton Hill from the bedroom and conservatory. The garden is private and enclosed with a hot tub which was a luxury as was having an ensuite and a family bathroom. Street is only a 10 minute drive away and was the most convenient place to get the shopping (Sainsbury's). The Ashcott Inn was extremely welcoming with a helpful, enthusiastic team and yummy food. A couple of things to note for the owner, the ensuite toilet didn't look clean when we arrived, and the settees could be improved for comfort. It would be helpful to have a clothes airer we could put up inside the property incase it is raining, and finally it would be helpful to have non-slip bath matts in both bathrooms or a handrail for safety as we all found the trays slippery. For 6 people the wardrobe space was very tight. Lovely touches were the welcome pack, plenty of towels and all beds were extremely comfortable.

The property is situated in perfect location for exploring Somerset in every direction. 2 minor suggestions and at no point did they hinder our holiday would be a secondary television in a bedroom (I know not everyone wants a tv when they go on holiday but it does help in an evening) and a folding laundry Airer as it’s easy to dry things in the conservatory and go out for the day. Only small suggestions but would make a big difference. We had a lovely week! Would happily recommend and will come back anytime! Thank you

The bottle of fizz was very much appreciated. Location is ideal for exploring Somerset. The hot tub was great. As mentioned by others the mattresses on the beds aren't great, and are probably due for replacement. The WiFi isn't great, and struggled at times. The settee and chairs in the lounge are practical as opposed to comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed. The local pubs were okay, one doing food and one not, with neither open Monday or Tuesday. The cottage is on a quiet estate

Lovely to be able to walk to the local pub for great food. The owners could put some full length wardrobes in and bedside cabinets beside all beds. Full length mirrors would also be useful and the mattress in the double en-suite bedroom could do with being changed - think a spring has gone! We did have to clear out the sink in the en-suite bathroom as the water was taking a long time to clear, once we had done this all fine. The cleaners probably ought to check when doing cleaning after stay. Very sensitive heat detector in kitchen which made cooking rather interesting!! Some pictures on walls would make a little more homely and a blind in the double en-suite bedroom would be good in the window looking out to the road!!

The welcome pack included lots of treats and the hot tub was an added luxury. Husband found the king size mattress too hard but I found it good for my back. The addition of bedside lamps would avoid having to get up to switch off the main light but couldn’t fault the accommodation otherwise. We ate in the village at the Ring O Bells and The Ashcott and would recommend both. Wells is worth a visit and the beach at Sand Bay north of Weston-super-Mare. We were unfortunately limited to visiting most of the local RSPB nature reserves as they either don’t allow dogs or only allow in certain areas.
