    Guest's review on Tripadvisor

“This cottage is in a really quiet, secluded corner - just as the photos show it.”

It is down a farm track, off a small road, with no passing traffic at all. You can walk in the woods & beside the lake. The cottage has real character. The area is lovely with so much to see - we travelled to various places including Stonehenge / Avebury / Bath / Salisbury / Stourhead / Shaftesbury. The only minor point to note in the cottage - the twin bedroom has an open staircase off the main room downstairs, with no door, meaning that if you have children in that room you have to consider ...

The property

Fisherman's Lodge occupies a totally idyllic setting at the end of a track, overlooking Fonthill Lake. The surrounding land, which forms part of the Fonthill Estate, offers superb walking, either along the perimeter of the lake just below or across fields to the nearby village of Tisbury. Attractive and well-designed in equal measure this is a glorious rural retreat for couple or small family. Once inside, you'll find the lodge has been planned to perfection and provides spacious accommodation in a contemporary style which we found very appealing. Four sets of double doors at the front open out onto a large, paved terrace flooding the open-plan living area with natural light. A great choice for a relaxing and tranquil stay.

About the location

SALISBURY

Andover 17 miles; Southampton 23 miles

The medieval city of Salisbury is the jewel in Wiltshire's crown, dominated by the majestic 13th century Gothic cathedral. The cathedral offers 750 years of history including Britain's tallest spire, the world's best preserved original Magna Carta, and Europe's oldest working clock. The surrounding cathedral close, full of architectural gems, is bordered by the River Avon and ancient Chilmark stone walls. The city offers historic streets with charming half-timbered buildings, traditional pubs, characterful shops and a twice-weekly market. Or, stroll along the Town Path and take in the awe-inspiring views across the water meadows towards the cathedral. After dark, there's a thriving arts scene, including one of the country's leading repertory theatres, a lively arts centre, cinema and a wealth of independent restaurants. Should you want to explore further afield then a short drive from Salisbury takes you to Stonehenge, the National Trust's Stourhead House and gardens, majestic Wilton House, as well as the New Forest National Park, and the Hampshire and Dorset coasts. There's so much to see and do in Salisbury and surrounding area that your only concern will be finding the time to do it all!
