AVON HEATH COUNTRY PARK
Ringwood 2 miles; Bournemouth 10 miles.
Avon Heath Country Park, Dorset’s largest park, can be found just 2 miles west of Ringwood and 10 miles north of Bournemouth. This well-managed heathland nature reserve consists of large areas of heathland, scattered with pine trees, while purple banks of heather provide a stunning sight in summer. A great deal of habitat management work is conserving the numerous rare species of birds, reptiles and plants, together with a resident deer population. Visitors can participate in a wide variety of events at the Visitors Centre, which also offers a children’s play area, countryside shop and cafe, or enjoy access to over 5 miles of marked walking and cycle trails. Alternatively, take the short drive to the family-friendly seaside resort of Bournemouth, explore the nearby New Forest National Park or take a boat trip around the islands of Poole Harbour. This fascinating area offers a super holiday destination for all the family.
